San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks didn't agree with his pivotal roughing the passer penalty on Drew Brees that opened the door for a New Orleans Saints comeback Sunday.
The NFL sided with the officials and fined Brooks $15,750, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the fine hadn't been announced.
NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino defended the call, noting Brooks illegally collared Brees around the neck if not the head.
However former Baltimore Ravens linebacker and ESPN analyst Ray Lewis was among those so incensed by the ruling, that he offered to pay half of Brooks' fine.
