You can even listen to music with it while swimming.<br /><br />Similar Guts, Better Exterior<br /><br />The spec differences between the Galaxy S4 Active and the standard Galaxy S4 (which I dubbed the best Android phone ever) are minute. Rather than the S4's Super AMOLED screen, the Galaxy S4 Active uses a regular LCD screen. The resolution is still the same at 1920 x 1080, however.<br /><br />The other internal change is that the camera is 8-megapixel rather than 13. The 8-megapixel camera does have a special aqua mode, however, for underwater photography.<br /><br />The battery, processor and RAM are all the same in the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S4 Active.<br /><br />A bigger difference, however, is in the phone's exterior. The Galaxy S4 Active is slightly thicker (it's very hard to tell the difference) and as a result feels more substantial in the hand. The polycarbonate shell around the phone and its back also feels more substantial, eschewing the feather-light and plasticky feel of the S3 and S4.<br /><br />The two phones are so similar, its enough to make us wonder why Samsung didn't just consider making at least some of these features standard on the regular Galaxy S4. Maybe it wouldn't be necessary to make the phone submergible in a meter of water, but having it work in the rain would be great.<br /><br />The Galaxy S4 Active is an AT&T exclusive in the United States and will be coming to other parts of the world later this summer.

The team has placed in third five times over the years (among 28 worldwide participants), but with a recent change to the challenge's rules — vehicles now require four requires instead of three — the University of Michigan is hoping its new creation, the Generation, will finally make it to the top.<br /><br />The car, which measures at about 177 inches long and 43 inches tall, weighs in at about 500 pounds when the driver is in place. "The driver is now positioned on the left side of the vehicle instead of in the center. Due to the addition of the forth wheel, it may not be faster, but our goal was to reduce the impact of the additional wheel as much as possible."<br /><br />The lopsided design of the newly-redesigned Generation aims to boost efficiency on the road. The new rules mandate that the wheels can't be next to each other, as they are on traditional cars. Otherwise, the driver's seat would hang lower than the surface and mess up the car's speed.

One apparently isn't enough so on top of the Galaxy S4 Mini and the Galaxy S4 Zoom is the Galaxy S4 Active. Read our hands-on review to find out what it's all about.<br /><br />There's a lot about the Galaxy S4 Active which is identical to the flagship Galaxy S4 smartphone. It's got the same 5in Full HD screen but with a less impressive TFT panel rather than SuperAMOLED, 1.9GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Software is also the same with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with features like Air View and Smart Pause.<br /><br />Specially designed ports and flaps keep the dust and water out, and although we haven't dunked the Active in water ourselves we can confirm via a demonstration on stage at Samsung's launch event that the phone didn't break. It is 9.1mm and 153g which isn't bad though.<br /><br />We like the rugged look of the Galaxy S4 Active and despite the large stylish visible screws on the back, the rear cover can still be removed to access the SIM card, microSD card and battery.<br /><br />As you can see, there are three physical buttons below the screen instead of the usual one. When submerged in the wet stuff, the Galaxy S4 Active's screen can't be used. However, an Aqua Mode means you can use the volume buttons to take snaps and photos are optimised for underwater conditions. We'd rather have a dedicated camera button, but it's not the end of the world.

People with knowledge of the plans said Redmond held talks with retailers as well as other tech companies about all sorts of ideas like a unified shopping cart and broad shipping options but ultimately, the plans fizzled.<br /><br />The incubation, as a Microsoft spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal, was called Project Brazil – no doubt a reference to Amazon. Microsoft was even planning to subsidize the cost of goods using advertising dollars from Bing. We are told the service would have been integrated into future versions of Windows as well as on tablets and eventually, other devices like the Xbox One.<br /><br />It’s unclear exactly when or why Microsoft pulled the plug on Project Brazil. While it might have been a good idea for customers looking to save a few bucks, it probably wasn’t in Microsoft’s best interest to move forward with the project. Considering that Microsoft accounted for less than four percent of all search ad revenue in 2012, subsidizing the price of goods might not have worked out so well.

Microsoft said learning about new exploitation techniques earlier helps them improve security by leaps instead of simply handling them one at a time as they crop up after the fact.<br /><br />A separate program called BlueHat Bonus for Defense will award up to $50,000 for defensive ideas that accompany a qualifying Mitigation Bypass submission. Naturally this program will work in conjunction with the above mentioned bounty and could be a way for individuals to earn even more money from their work.<br /><br />Finally, Microsoft is offering up to $11,000 for critical vulnerabilities that affect Internet Explorer 11 Preview in Windows 8.1 Preview.<br /><br />All three bounties will launch on June 26, 2013, we’re told. The timeframe for the Mitigation Bypass Bounty and the BlueHat Bonus for Defense bounty is listed as ongoing while the Internet Explorer 11 bounty will only be active during the first 30 days of the beta period (from June 26 through July 26).

Other than that, Sony is also mulling over plans to roll out other “experimental API’s” should they feel as though the community has shared enough of their demands for such. Needless to say, future APIs that fall under this badge will not be accompanied by full documentation or support, but it will be targeted to those niche developers who prefer to play around with some features found on Sony devices. The API will let the illumination bar change its color, the frequency of pulses, and indulge in some pre-defined fading patterns. As for the compatible handsets that support the Illumination bar API fully, they are the Xperia SP, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia UL, and Xperia A.

Huawei, Sony and LG too, have revealed that they have plans to come up with a Firefox OS phone of their own, too.

Still, the rumored hardware specifications of the Oppo Find 7 have surfaced, where talk of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset have hit the Internet, where it will be accompanied by a 5” 1080p Full HD touchscreen display, an 8-megapixel shooter in front with a 13-megapixel camera at the back, 2GB RAM, 32GB of internal memory, NFC support, and a massive 4,000mAh battery which would surely raise eyebrows – not to mention increase the thickness of its chassis. The Oppo Find 7 is said to hit the markets sometime in the middle of September onwards, so stay tuned.

Now it looks like manufacturer Foxconn wants a piece of that action too and has reportedly hired 3,000 software engineers where they are expected to be experts in HTML5 and cloud computing. While Foxconn has been primarily known in the past to be the manufacturer for Apple’s iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad, it seems that recently the company has been looking for alternative ways to making money, ultimately reducing their reliance on Apple and we guess the Firefox OS could be one way to do that. We’re not sure what Foxconn has planned with their software engineers – either design software for Foxconn’s own branded phone, or maybe create software in which they can then sell to other brands instead! Either way we’ll have to wait and see, but what do you guys think? Is the Firefox OS going to be the next big thing, or is iOS and Android too dominant at the moment?

The launch date window was published on Australian carrier Telstra’s website, which said the HTC One on its network would be receiving Android 4.2.2 as early as July 22. The update will most likely be available for the unlocked version of the HTC One first before it’s pushed out to carrier,s with Telstra not even receiving the update from HTC yet as they need to further test it before it’s made available. Unfortunately, there’s no official word as to when Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean will be made available on U.S. carriers, but today’s news may hint at what’s to come. Working together, they have created a pair of gloves that allows users to answer calls simply by mimicking the phone call sign as pictured above. Essentially the microphone for the phone is placed in the pinky, while the speaker is placed into the thumb area of the glove. While it might seem somewhat sophisticated, they are actually a little less hi-tech than one might think. Sean Miles has basically taken regular gloves and recycled mobile phones to create his piece of wearable technology. This project was actually done to raise awareness of how much waste we are creating by not recycling our gadgets. According to Miles, “I hope that my Talk to the Hand project will get people to think again about the waste created by not recycling gadgets. While these might not be for everyone, there are hundreds of other uses that old phones can be put to – from being reconditioned and used again to being mined for their components.”

Instagram For Windows Phone Is Still A No-Show

While that is a cool feature we’re sure Instagram users will appreciate, Windows Phone owners are probably wondering where is the love when it comes to Instagram for Windows Phone? In the past we’ve seen “evidence” of Instagram arriving on Windows Phone, but despite numerous Windows Phone-related events coming and going, there is still no word of the app, and it looks like Windows Phone users are in for a wait. During the Q&A session, a question was posed to Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerburg as to the availability of Instagram on Windows Phone. Unfortunately Zuckerburg’s answer was that they had nothing to announce right now, although he did state that Windows Phone is “very interesting”. While Zuckerburg did not completely rule out the app arriving on Windows Phone, his answer isn’t exactly inspiring as it means that Windows Phone users might have to wait months, or maybe even years before we see a release of the app. Either way there are third party alternatives out there, but we’re sure that WP owners will probably appreciate the official version nonetheless.
