Believes in in God, guns, and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Hell, he reminds me of Lt. Kendrick in A Few Good Men, albeit an out of shape Lt. You make fun of Jesus, and you are going to Hell.”</i><br /><br />Two things about that…First of all, Jimmy boy has no sense of humor, because like it or not, using the purity and sanctity of Jesus and twisting it into something gross, sexual, and/or amoral is fucking funny, and secondly?<br /><br />People like Jim, and there are plenty, shouldn’t tell me how offensive I am being by making Jesus jokes when their Facebook pages are littered with nothing but bigoted posts, anti-gay posts, Obama is a non-citizen nigger posts, and holding weenie roasts/Quran burnings like Jim did a couple of 9/11’s ago.<br /><br />Hypocrisy I tellz ya…Hypocrisy in its basest and most definable form, and the pity is, most of them never see it, because, Jesus loves them this they know for their ignorance tells them so.<br /><br />Hell I know a couple of women, one in particular.  She has the perfect family, the perfect marriage, goes to church religiously, and scorns me for not going to Church and like Jim, berates me for having some occasional comedic fun with the Holy Baby Jeebus. In his autobiography, he claims that Clarkson burst into "hysterical sobbing" after he forced her to include her massive single "Since U Been Gone" on her 2004 <i>Breakaway</i> album. But Clarkson says that story couldn't be further from the truth.</div><div style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px;"><br /></div><br /><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px;">"His stories and songs are mixed up. I did want more guitars added to the original demo and Clive did not..." Clarkson wrote. "But, yes, I did cry in his office once. I cried after I played him a song I had written about my life called 'Because Of You.' I cried because he hated it and told me verbatim that I was a 'sh--ty writer who should be grateful for the gifts that he bestows upon me.' He continued on about how the song didn't rhyme and how I should just shut up and sing. This was devastating coming from a man who I, as a young girl, considered a musical hero and was so honored to work with. But I continued to fight for the song and the label relented. And it became a worldwide hit. He didn't include that in the book."</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px;">Their differences didn't end there. No, I was curious to see how this whole thing would pan out. Yankovic shows up onstage and promises to reveal "a metric buttload" of Bonnaroo performers over the next hour. Somewhere, a conspiracy nut blames the lack of U.S. measurements on <a href="http://thanks-obama.tumblr.com/" style="color: #00bce4; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">Barack Obama</a>.</div><div style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px;"><b>1:06 p.m.</b>: We meet our phone bank "volunteers" and "Bonnaroo's head of social media, Kevin Zuckerberg" (see, 'cause he's wearing a <i>hoodie</i> like Mark Zuckerberg). Comedy is attempted. Yankovic, quickly realizing this thing is going south, tosses to a webcam segment by sighing "Google+: That's a thing, right?"</div><div style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px;"><b>1:07 p.m.</b>: One of the Google+ guests is named Paisley. Of course she is.</div><div style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px;"><b>1:11 p.m.</b>: Yankovic is vamping like there's no tomorrow, and the lighting director is just taking cues from a Coltrane solo or something. The "<a href="http://archidose.blogspot.com/search/label/28%20in%2028">28 in 28</a>" series features a different book every day of the month.</i><br /><br /><a href="http://www.wearedesignbureau.com/projects/dbs-first-special-edition/"><b><i>Architecture: The People, Places, and Ideas Driving Contemporary Design</i></b></a>, Design Bureau Special Edition<br />ALARM Press, 2012<br />Paperback, 448 pages<br /><br /><img alt="28-28_bureau.jpg" src="http://www.archidose.org/Blog/28-28_bureau.jpg" title="Book cover" /><br /><br />It was one year ago that I got my first look at <i><a href="http://www.wearedesignbureau.com/">Design Bureau</a></i>, a magazine out of Chicago that presents various facets of design: architecture, interior design, product design, and some fashion. Back then <a href="http://archidose.blogspot.com/2012/02/two-magazines.html">I reviewed</a> the "Renegade Architecture" issue, which has a good helping of architecture alongside the other realms of design. Architecture again rises to the fore in DB's first Special Edition on "the people, places, and ideas driving contemporary design." The sizable collection of 100 projects follows the magazine's recipe, for good and bad.<br /><br />What I appreciate most about DB is the editors' knack for finding really good design that is not limited to what is brand new. They appear to realize that a magazine cannot break a story or start a meme like a blog or other website; instead they focus on presenting really good modern design really well. This is not to say that they are reaching back decades, but opening the window a bit beyond the last week, month, even year is liberating; it lets quality trump freshness. That curating quality extends to this special edition on architecture, but it's a more diverse collection than I'm used to with the magazines. A good deal of neo-traditional design is found in these pages, but modern design is still the majority.<br /><br />The 100 projects are split into nine chapters: Modernized Minimalism; Big Design, Small Scale; Before/After; Waterfront Homes; Notes from the Bureau; Public Places; Suburbia Today; Hospitality Hotspots; Luxe Homes. My favorites are: Modernized Minimalism, a good selection of mainly houses that benefits from short interviews with architects about the projects' minimalist qualities; Before/After highlights the dramatic transformations that can occur when an old building is saved; Public Places has an interesting selection of parks, museums, and other publicly accessible buildings and spaces with thorough descriptions (the book's diversity is evident in the juxtaposition of the <a href="http://www.world-architects.com/en/projects/project-review-detail/35897_bsa_space">BSA Space</a> followed by the Grand Ole Opry's <a href="http://www.pladstudio.com/PLADstudio.com/PLAD_Studio_-_GOOH.html">flood rebuild</a>).<br /><br />Questionable are parts of the chapters Big Design, Small Scale (an unexceptional yogurt shop and store for running shoes), Notes from the Bureau (an interview with the designer of Papa John's stores?!), and Suburbia Today (does an unbuilt project for NoHo really tell us about the suburbs today?). These and other examples serve to illustrate DB's business model, in which participating companies (contractors, manufacturers, architects) supply advertising, something I had mentioned in my first review with some trepidation (are projects selected based on the willingness of players to advertise?). With this special edition it's odd to see so many ads (the Notes chapter has one page per spread with ads), but this means it exists somewhere between a magazine and a book. Those expecting a book may be disappointed, but those expecting an over-sized magazine will be pleasantly surprised at the large and diverse quality of architecture within.
