They fondly recall the scene back in Season 4 when Ziva David, then still a visiting Mossad agent, announced to Tony DiNozzo, "I will kill you 18 different ways with this paper clip." So when the woman who so engagingly played Ziva for eight seasons, <a href="http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/cote-de-pablo/189721" style="color: #0066bb; text-decoration: none;">Cote de Pablo</a>, announced she was leaving the series, grief-stricken devotees sent paper clips to CBS in protest. But even that couldn't keep Ziva attached.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">"On a September day in New York, I'm looking out my balcony, and I still miss my family," says de Pablo, thinking about not being on the Los Angeles set in the fall for the first time since 2005. "But they're with me all the time, every day, and that won't change." De Pablo is speaking with <em>TV Guide Magazine</em>exclusively after her abrupt decision not to renew her contract just prior to the start of production on Season 11 (which kicks off Tuesday at 8/7c on CBS).</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">As for the fan outpouring, she says, "I was incredibly moved by the blind support people had without ever getting reasons as to why I left. People trusted that what I was doing was what I needed to do, and that's unconditional love from people who don't even know me. That's been the most beautiful thing out of this process."</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">The love de Pablo felt from fans is being returned in a farewell hour that airs Oct. 1 and is easily the most anticipated episode in the history of TV's top-rated drama. It will finally provide some clarity to the long-simmering feelings between Ziva and <a href="http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/michael-weatherly/166360" style="color: #0066bb; text-decoration: none;">Michael Weatherly</a>'s Tony DiNozzo. "As far as the 'Tiva' fans, they'll get a resolution they've awaited for years," she says. "There is a level of confession. And if it takes a big change like this to stir things up, it's all for the better. I'm a fan of the show!"</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">Such mixed feelings may only deepen the mystery of why de Pablo left. Clearly, there was a last-minute impasse no one wants to discuss, beyond the network's insistence that money wasn't a factor. "As far as my decision to leave, that's a personal thing, and I'd rather leave it at that," she says. "The idea of leaving was not something I toyed around with for a long time. It was an overwhelmingly hard thing — at times terrifying."</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">She has no grand scheme for doing a sitcom or movies. "Leaving <em>NCIS</em> was not planned, so there is no plan. If I were panicking now, it would defeat the purpose. I need to get really excited about something, because for eight years I was really excited about this character. I don't want to start anything unless it's like that."</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;"><em>Bittersweet</em> is the word she inevitably uses to describe how it felt to wrap up her storyline at the -beginning of Season 11. "Did I want to leave under those circumstances? That's another story," she says. "But I'm not of the belief that you just take off and leave fans hanging. A lot of people don't get the privilege of going back to a set and being able to say goodbye to people. I left under my terms, and that was wonderful."</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">The final shoot was "a beautiful day — a quiet, intimate set," she says. "I'm horrible at saying goodbyes, because I've been saying goodbyes ever since I left my country [Chile] when I was 10, so even though I did not utter the word <em>goodbye</em>, I was able to hug them and let them know how much I loved them. And that's all that matters."</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">"We wanted to give her the most graceful, emotional payoff we could," says exec producer <a href="http://www.tvguide.com/celebrities/gary-glasberg/327602" style="color: #0066bb; text-decoration: none;">Gary Glasberg</a>. "It was a pretty magical moment. Cote took it and ran with it, and the emotion you'll see on screen is very real."</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">Ziva's most intimate moments were with Tony, and de Pablo enthuses over "getting to close things off with my partner in crime, Michael. My first scene ever in the bullpen was with Michael, and my goodbye scene was with Michael. I feel like that was a beautiful way of ending — for now, certainly — a beautiful chapter between these two."</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">Did she say "for now"? Although you get the feeling any reprise would be years in the future, de Pablo has a surprisingly hopeful, never-say-never answer when asked if she could ever return for a cameo or something bigger. "The greatest thing about this last episode is that Ziva doesn't die," she says. "As long as a character doesn't die, the character can always come back. Not that it would actually matter, because we bring back characters from the dead all the time on <em>NCIS</em>!"</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px;">Notice her use of the present tense and the word <em>we</em>. Although he wasn’t an original character in the comics, his popularity amongst the general fanbase has since made him part of the official Marvel universe, specifically with his appearances in <i>Ultimate Spider-man</i>. As he told NBC, “I absolutely killed him — this was not percolating.”</div><div style="margin-bottom: 22px; margin-top: 16px;">Still, this is the Marvel universe, after all, a place that has brought back to life many a character presumed dead. (I’m looking at you, Magneto.) Coulson is no different, although his resurrection is a mystery that will unravel as the show’s mythos continues to evolve. At this year’s SXSW, Whedon teased fans about his secretive Lazarus pit, stating, “I’ll tell you guys this, Heimlich.”</div><div style="margin-bottom: 22px; margin-top: 16px;">Online speculation has dug deeper, of course. <a href="http://screenrant.com/agents-of-shield-tv-coulson-death-explained-spoilers/" style="color: #1b5288; text-decoration: none;">Screen Rant highlights one theory</a>, provided by their own Deep Throat-esque source, that suggests Coulson’s death was a cover up used to unite the Avengers. Easy Crockpot Chili Recipe

Two pounds of ground beef, and one pound of sausage which I will slightly brown off with Worcestershire Sauce prior to crocking it. I also add real bacon pieces.<br /><br />I would use REAL bacon, but I cannot bring myself to use sliced bacon for this. Anyhoo. This is my newest crockpot. Isn't she sexy and voluptuous?<br /><br />I call her, Samantha. Samantha came with a 2, 4, and 6 quart bowl. I always use the 4 quart bowl.  The 2 is too small, and the 6 quart bowl, I only use when cooking up meth, so it may have toxic residue in it.<br /><br />There you have it. experienced loss opening the way to new possibilities. I presented on how Latino ministries had sprung up in the wake of parish decline; and how something new seems to be taking shape since the greatly regretted loss of the regional vicars (ministry developers). Other presentations were from Julio Holguin of the Dominican Republic about the new sense of structure and formation there; Diane Jardine Bruce of Los Angeles about congregations dealing with ethnically changing neighborhoods by walking the neighborhood and making friends; Todd Ousley of Eastern Michigan about using new ministry models in the wake of declining population and employment; and Jeff Lee speaking of the merger of the Dioceses of Quincy and Chicago. It was all actually quite inspiring. I was particularly touched by Diane’s account of connecting with the neighborhood. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 14.0pt;">We did plodding business in the afternoon, nothing anyone could get exercised about. Then we had our closing dinner tonight, including graduation ceremonies for those who have completed the College or Bishops and farewells for three retiring bishops. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 14.0pt;">I have loved seeing these special friends and look forward to connecting with then again next Spring.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 14.0pt;">Tomorrow, I fly to Reno for the Empty Bowls Benefit Banquet in Sparks, where I will be a waiter once again this year.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><!--EndFragment-->

Everybody's got that nutty relative. Well I've got tons of nutty, but mostly they ain't the fun kind of nutty. Exposing the private companies behind the takeover of government

CMD has already done an invaluable service by exposing the corporate dating service for state lawmakers known as <a href="http://alecexposed.org/" rel="nofollow">ALEC</a> -- the American Legislative Exchange Council. Fifty corporations and nonprofits have dropped out of ALEC since CMD began its exposes.<br /><br />Their first target is the <a href="http://www.prwatch.org/node/12221" rel="nofollow">Sodexo Food Service</a> contractor, which siphons cash from kids and soldiers while dishing up scandal and subprime food.<br /><br />Sodexo was accused of overcharging 21 New York school districts and the State University of New York from 2004 to 2009. Since it was completed in 1972, this interstate that connects the coast of Virginia westward to the mountains has been used by millions of travelers. It's gentle grade and curves made crossing the Blue Ridge Mountains far easier and safer than in the past, and in good conditions it's a breeze to drive.<br /><br />That is, until bad weather hits, and one particularly nasty deterrent over the years has been fog that can be as thick as pea soup, literally limiting visibility to about as far as the front of your vehicle. With eyes squinting to see through the thick, opaque haze, it can make for a white-knuckle, heart-stopping drive as you go up against Mother Nature.<br /><br />And then there's the other drivers. That's where Russian roulette comes into play because some drivers feel completely safe continuing at the 65 mph posted speed limit even though they can't see beyond their noses. Others slow down ... but how much? Some almost stop while others feel safe at 55 or 45 or 35. That's a dangerous mix on foggy or wintry Afton.<br /><br />For years those living in the area have suggested that a variable speed limit would be helpful under such conditions. Improvements have been made as far as automatic fog lights that outline lanes making it easier not to drive over the side of the mountain, and electronic signs with messages warning of inclement conditions. But the speed limit issue was still there. And pileups still happened even with the improvements.<br /><br />Thankfully, according to the <a href="http://www.timesdispatch.com/news/state-regional/improvements-planned-for-i--over-afton-mountain/article_0e894fc3-9f94-5394-97bf-9b31ac75f5c4.html"><i>Richmond Times-Dispatch</i></a>, a new phase of improvements is going to be put in place and, included in Phase 2, will be the variable speed signs:<br /><blockquote>The variable speed limit would allow VDOT to not only detect inclement weather or changing traffic patterns but automatically alter the road’s legal speed limit to prepare drivers for the conditions.<br /><br />In Afton, Shiley said, “we looked at crash types, not just number of crashes, and it led us to this solution: We really need to have something to get motorists to slow down when we have fog conditions or winter weather conditions.”</blockquote>Afton is legendary for the pileups that have occurred over the years:<br /><blockquote>In April 1992, state police responded to a 60-car pileup that resulted in two fatalities. In April 1998, a 65-car pileup sent 40 people to area hospitals. Then, less than three weeks later, the road was the site of an 18-car collision. In all three incidents, police reported that fog was a major factor.</blockquote>The new improvements will be welcomed. Now if we could just get climbing lanes....

Of course not. Yet thanks to sequestration, the U.S. military is facing a situation where our sons and daughters are being asked to do more with less training, less maintenance, and less modern platforms. Today, the military is experiencing the greatest readiness crisis since the Vietnam War. Should the president and Congress fail to find a solution to our nation's budget woes, readiness will likely degrade even further. Forced to find immediate savings, the services have curtailed training and deferred maintenance in ways that threaten to damage our national security for decades.<br /><br />Sequestration's roughly $500 billion in defense cuts over the next decade have come on top of the administration's already substantial reductions to national defense spending. I'mTired And Pissed Off

This seven day a week bullshit is getting old.<br />On top of that I spent ten and a half hours inside a confined space on my fucking knees last night with a restraint harness on stringing a whole shit ton of wires and my left foot is still numb on top.<br /><br />I'm fucking beat.<br /><br />Hopefully I will have next Saturday off.<br /><br />If nothing else I still have 3 floating holidays to burn and if worst comes to worst I'll use one of those.<br /><br />As for the pissed off part.<br /><br />As I was sitting here trying to wake up, all groggy as fuck, my wife tells me that the boy is having anger issues and that they got into it last night, again.<br /><br />He is fifteen and I remember those days.<br /><br />I took off from home at that age and never went back myself.<br /><br />They got into it about grades and of course being a growing male of that age, he is mouthy as all get out to her. The little fucker is smart enough to know better when I am around because I'll get his ass.<br />She escalated it and slugged him on the arm so he went ballistic and punched the window over the sink that hangs out, kinda like a mini green house. I forget what they call those things.<br />Anyways, he busted the inner window and of course, cut the shit out of his hand.<br /><br />Dumbass.<br /><br /><br />I just got off the phone to the glass place and they will be out tomorrow, to the tune of about $250.<br /><br />You can rest assured that the lad and I are going to have a short conversation.<br /><br />A very short, one sided conversation.<br /><br />If he pulls his lippy fucking shit on me I might end up calling a drywall guy too.<br /><br />Sigh.<br /><br />They say there is no rest for the wicked and I certainly have earned my share but I am starting to wonder if I wasn't Genghis Kahn in a previous life.<br /><br /><br /><br />
