(CNN) -- This might take some explaining.
A large Boeing cargo plane made a landing at an airport in Wichita, Kansas, late last night. That's not so unusual, but unfortunately the pilot missed the mark by about 12 miles.
Instead of landing at McConnell Air Force Base southeast of the city, the pilot put the Atlas Air 747 Dreamlifter down at the much-smaller Jabara Airport on Wichita's northeast side.
Jabara has no control tower and normally doesn't handle jumbo jets. And at 6,101 feet, the Jabara runway is about half the length of those at McConnell.
There was no damage to aircraft or airport, according to the City of Wichita which runs the airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it's investigating.
The Dreamlifter is a modified 747-400 passenger airplane that can haul more cargo by volume than any airplane in the world, according to Boeing's website. 'It is the primary means of transporting major assemblies of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.'
'We are working to determine next steps and will have additional information in the morning,' said Dmitry Krol, a spokesman for Boeing.
