More cast names have been announced to join David Tennant in the in the FOX adaptation of ITV hit drama Broadchurch, which will be produced as Gracepoint in the USA .
The Hollywood Reporter have announced that Anna Gunn and Jacki Weaver have signed up for the ten-part reimagining that will be part written and executive produced by the show's original creator Chris Chibnall. David Tennant, who starred as DI Alec Hardy in the original UK version, will be returning to the role of the lead investigator into the murder of a young boy in a small coastal town, but his character will now be an American detective named Emmett Carver.
Emmy award winner Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad) will take the role of Detective Ellie Miller. She is a happily married resident of the town with a young family. To her annoyance, her expected promotion at work goes to Emmett Carver, a new arrival in the small Californian community of Gracepoint, but she must still work alongside him when tragedy strikes the town.
Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook) will play Susan Wright, an unpleasant individual, also new to the town, who lives in the RV park and works various odd jobs. Susan Wright has a secret which she fiercely guards.
James Strong, one of the directors of the original series in the UK , has also signed on to direct multiple episodes.
Gracepoint goes into production in January, for broadcast during the 2014-2015 season. It is being produced in partnership with Shine America in association with Kudos and Imaginary Friends. Shine International is distributing internationally. Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein (In Treatment) join Chris Chibnall as executive producers along with Shine America ’s Carolyn Bernstein (The Bridge) and Kudos’ Jane Featherstone (The Hour).
