RSC Whispers From The Wings Blog: 'Time To Pinch Myself'

For Elliot the whole experience has felt somewhat unreal. He says:</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><div class="MsoNormal"><i><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In the last week I have packed up the young boy from south east <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">London</st1:place></st1:city>.<o:p></o:p></span></i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I moved him to a little flat in <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Stratford</st1:place></st1:city>.<o:p></o:p></span></i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I 'teched' our show from 10am to 10pm.<o:p></o:p></span></i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I walked out on to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre stage in front of more than 1000 people, making my debut with the RSC.<o:p></o:p></span></i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I danced a hole in my socks at the press night party, and high fived Oliver Ford Davies backstage….<o:p></o:p></span></i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I would have pinched myself to make sure every awesome thing I had experienced this week was indeed real, but I assure you there has been little time for pinching.<o:p></o:p></span></i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://www.rsc.org.uk/explore/blogs/whispers-from-the-wings/time-to-pinch-myself/"><span style="color: blue;">Read Elliot's full blog post here</span></a></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Richard II will play in residence in Stratford-upon-Avon until 16th November 2013 when it will then transfer to The Barbican in <st1:city w:st="on">London</st1:city>.<br /><br />The run is completely sold out, but there may be returns. He says:</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">"Working with David Tennant is like being in a whirlwind, his energy is infectious and unrelenting, trying new things, and adapting to change.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">His work ethic is admirable. I often find myself excited to see what he tries next. He tries out a new idea… it doesn't work, he tries something else, it works, he changes it, he changes it again, experimenting, molding, and enjoying playing.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As a newbie in the RSC watching him, and playing with him gives me courage, the courage to find new things, to get it completely and utterly wrong, acknowledge that and try again. David brings a freedom into the rehearsal room that liberates me and makes me try harder."</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The production opens in Stratford-upon-Avon in just under two weeks and the nerves are beginning to kick in. Elliot mentions an exchange with David as he bumps into him just before a visit to the local supermarket:</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">"'You alright?' It will then transfer to the Barbican Theatre in <st1:city w:st="on">London</st1:city> from December 9th 2013 until 25th January 2014.
