Elliot Barnes-Worrell, who plays the Groom in the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Richard II has been blogging his experiences of the rehearsal process for the regular RSC feature Whispers From The Wings.
In his latest blog, Running he talks about the inspiration that he is finding in David Tennant. He says:
"Working with David Tennant is like being in a whirlwind, his energy is infectious and unrelenting, trying new things, and adapting to change.
His work ethic is admirable. I often find myself excited to see what he tries next. He tries out a new idea… it doesn't work, he tries something else, it works, he changes it, he changes it again, experimenting, molding, and enjoying playing.
As a newbie in the RSC watching him, and playing with him gives me courage, the courage to find new things, to get it completely and utterly wrong, acknowledge that and try again. David brings a freedom into the rehearsal room that liberates me and makes me try harder."
The production opens in Stratford-upon-Avon in just under two weeks and the nerves are beginning to kick in. Elliot mentions an exchange with David as he bumps into him just before a visit to the local supermarket:
"'You alright?' I say
'Yeah' he says
'Want anything from Sainsbury's'
'Another three weeks.'
'I don't know if they stock extra rehearsal time.'"
Richard II will open at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon on 10th October 2013 and will run until 16th November 2013. It will then transfer to the Barbican Theatre in London from December 9th 2013 until 25th January 2014. The production is directed by Gregory Doran and stars David Tennant as King Richard and Nigel Lindsay as Bolingbroke.
The play will be filmed and streamed live into UK cinemas on Wednesday 13th November, and then into cinemas in locations worldwide in broadcasts running until February 2014. Find out more on the RSC Onscreen site
