Are you in the know when it comes to the green automotive universe? If so, then you'll be aware it was a very busy week, with both the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show and the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. Let's take a look and recap:

The wraps finally came off the new 2015 MINI Cooper and Cooper S, and yes, it's true: There's a new turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine option. We can't wait to get behind the wheel and see how it compares to the new 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine from Ford.

In Tokyo, Toyota showed off quite a few variants of the Prius C in concept form. From a crossover and a convertible to a sporty hatchback, no niche was left out. Over at the Honda stand, the new 2015 Fit subcompact was on display--and in the U.S., it earned a 36-mpg combined gas mileage rating. Honda also finally showed its new subcompact crossover, which will come to the U.S. next year.

In Tesla news this week, NHTSA is angry that the brand claimed a 5.4-star safety rating, so the agency has outlined new rules for advertising said safety ratings. Further, it laid out what will happen if brands choose to continue to market false claims.

Meanwhile, Tesla's VP of sales has left the company; apparently he is now spending time with his family. Last but not least, NHTSA said it will launch a formal investigation into recent Tesla Model S fires, and CEO Elon Musk announced it will warranty any car that is destroyed by a fire (as long as the owner didn't deliberately try to destroy the car).
