Phillip = lt blue, Carrie = black, Kelly - purple, Fantasia = green
After a very nice five week stint back in the Top 50 albums in the country, Phillip Phillips sees his debut album, "The World From the Side of the Moon" fall from #33 last week to #61 this week. This marks its 37th week in the top 100 with #76 being his worst position to date. For a nine month old release it is showing some very strong legs with his latest single "Gone, Gone, Gone" still garnering strong radio support. (Plus being #61 puts it one the top of the page on BillBoard.com!) The other three American Idol winners on the BillBoard chart are the same three ladies for the past few months. Carrie Underwood's "Blown Away" remains among the Top 100 for its 66th week, now at #86 from #80 last week, and again keeping her company nearby is Kelly Clarkson's "Greatest Hits: Chapter One" barely hanging in the Top 100 at #98 (from #91 last week) on its 37th week as well. Fantasia's "Side Effects of You" lands just outside the Top 100 again, only falling two places from last weeks #104 to land at #106 in its 15th week. Her total sales are now at 239K as posted here on ukmix.org. In fact using the end of year numbers for 2012, I can also find the total sales for the other three Idols on the chart:

Phillip = 533,194 (2012) + 427,975 (2013) = 961,169
Carrie = 1,202,779 (2012) + 301,538 (2013) = 1,504,317
Kelly = 195,890 (2012) + 277,913 (2013) = 473,803

So Phillip continues to inch towards a million in sales, Carrie just broke through 1.5 million point and Kelly is on the verge of another half million selling album with a greatest hits compilation. Not too bad.

Another American Idol winner releases a new album in a couple weeks, with Lee DeWyze's, "Frames" being released on August 20. I do not believe anybody thinks it will be a huge seller, but it is good to see him releasing a second album of his own music. The interesting releases will be in October, when Candice Glover's "Music Speaks" is released on October 8, and then Scotty McCreery's third album (second full country album, if you dismiss his gold selling Christmas album) on October 15. Hopefully Interscope will be giving Candice some serious promotion (and a new single soon?) since she will need it to move many albums. On the other hand, UMG Nashville is sure to push their platinum and gold selling young star, since they already know he has a large fan base and is a proven money maker. And if they do not, perhaps Bojangles will, since he helps them sell a lot of chicken!
