The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is recognizing that American workers are the nation’s backbone with a series of stamps that honor the contributions of industrial workers.

The USPS rolled out the forever stamps this week. Among the men and women featured in the early 20th century images are a railroad track worker, a linotyper in a publishing house and an airplane maker. The sheet includes 12 different stamps and comes in five different versions.
Tom Perez, secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor, said the stamps are a reminder of the important role such workers have played in our history:
These iconic images tell a powerful story about American economic strength and prosperity. These men and women and millions like them really did build a nation.
The types of workers featured in this stamp collection helped make this nation great. They built the infrastructure that allowed the U.S. to soar in the post-World War II period. They were union members who were paid a fair wage for a hard day’s work. Let’s hope these images can remind policymakers and corporations alike of the important role workers serve.

The stamps are available at your local post office or can be ordered here.
