The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported:
The park, the 36th in the state’s park system, is the first to open in central Virginia since 1946. On the river’s southern bank, it sits on 1,564 acres with 2.5 miles of river frontage. The land, in the northwestern corner of Powhatan County, was previously part of the property of the neighboring Beaumont Correctional Center. With more than 1,500 acres, the park is the 36th in the state park system.
WRIC TV-8 reported:
The governor also announced funding of $50,000 to serve as seed money in developing an International Mountain Biking Association ride center at the park. The land is very familiar to my husband who grew up in that part of the Commonwealth so we hope to soon check out this latest edition to the Commonwealth's state parks.
The park will eventually include camping, cabins and other improvements.
