I know what you’re thinking. NHL hockey and learning just don’t go together. However, according to DNAInfo Chicago, a third grade student at Columbus Manor Elementary School took things to a wholenew level when she answered Hossa to the math problem 9x9.
Of course, those knowledgeable of such things realize that the Chicago Blackhawks forward wears number 81, which makes young Maggie Ciara correct with her answer. Puck Daddy reports that her teacher initially circled the answer with the notation “What is this?,” but once Ciara explained herself the A+ was in the bag. Too bad the Hawks are not having such a time with the Red Wings.
In any event, the creativity demonstrated by the little girl and the ability of the teacher to inquire for clarification are all great signs that all is not lost in the education system. The whole situation makes me smile and helps restore my faith in normal people.
Basically, the story here is the non-story. Maggie did not receive a bad mark because she was being creative, and her teacher went the extra step to research the issue. Both sides deserve to be the number one stars.
