Christoph Waltz won the supporting actor Oscar for "Django Unchained" in one of the tightest acting races at this year'sAcademy Awards on Sunday.
The man who already had one Oscar on his mantel beat out four other veteran performers: Alan Arkin ("Argo"), Philip Seymour Hoffman ("The Master"), Tommy Lee Jones("Lincoln") and Robert De Niro ("Silver Linings Playbook") in the first contest of the evening.
Waltz won for playing Dr. King Schultz, a dentist-turned-bounty hunter who frees slave Django, played by Jamie Foxx.
He dedicated his win to the film’s writer and director,Quentin Tarantino. “We participated in a hero’s journey — the hero being Quentin.”Waltz's previous win was for his supporting role in"Inglourious Basterds" (2009).
The 85th Academy Awards are being held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday night, in a televised ceremony hosted by Seth MacFarlane.
