‘Veronica Mars’ Movie Meets $2 Million Fundraising Goal in One Day

On Wednesday night fans and supporters of that show about a wisecracking young sleuth (played by Kristen Bell) pledged more than $2 million to produce a “Veronica Mars” movie, less than 12 hours <a href="http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/03/13/seeking-funds-for-movie-creator-of-veronica-mars-turns-to-kickstarter/" style="color: #666699;">after the fundraising drive was announced</a> on Kickstarter.</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: georgia, 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 1.4em; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 1em;">Rob Thomas, the “Veronica Mars” creator and producer, <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/559914737/the-veronica-mars-movie-project" style="color: #666699;">announced</a> on Wednesday morning that he and Ms. Bell had got the blessing of Warner Brothers (which owns the “Veronica Mars” property) to seek donations for a possible movie project. Mr. Thomas told fans they had 30 days to raise $2 million for “our shot” at producing a film, adding, “I believe it’s the only one we’ve got.” And by about 9 p.m. that goal was met, with pledges continuing to come in on Day 2. There’s a Bollywood end-credit dance number! I’ve always wanted to direct Bill Murray. We’ll figure out something cool.
