Two Canadian athletes captured the top two spots in the men's mogul freestyle skiing event today at the Winter Olympics. Alex Bilondeau took the gold medal while his teammate, Mikael Kingsbury, took the silver.
Canada also dominated the women's mogul event, though it was much more of a family affair. Sisters Justine and Chloe Dufour-Lapointe took gold and silver respectively at that event, held on Feb. 8.
Bilondeau was not the fastest down the slope in an event where speed matters. However, the judges saved their best scores for Bilondeau's ability to navigate the bumpy slope, as well as executing complicated tricks on the slope's two jumping points.
Alexandr Smyshlyaev from Russia rounded out the winners, taking the bronze. American skier Patrick Deneen made it to the last round of finals, finishing in sixth place.
