DOCTORS warned the public against using alternative treatments like herbal medicines and food supplements, proven to be unsafe, in curing cancer.

The Philippine Society of Medical Oncology admits their increasing popularity nothwithstanding, the preparations posed health risks.

The group is composed of 196 practicing medical oncologists who actively promote cancer awareness and safe practices.

It has partnered with the Philippine College of Physicians, Food and Drug Administration, Roche and Globo Asiatico Enterprises to dispel tha myth about herbal alternatives.

“Patients should be vigilant that they are not being misled by false promises,” said the group led by PSMO President Dr. Felycette Gay Lapus.

“This year, the focus of PSMO is on information dissemination through partnerships with pharmaceutical companies, government offices and the media,” she said in a recent media briefing joined by Vice president Dr. Ellie May Villegas at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel.
