Library Associate - Gateway Community College (CCP-14, 12-month, tenure track position). ANTICIPATED STARTING DATE: Fall 2012. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree with a preference for Library Technical Services or a subject area related to library services in the academic field; 0-3 years related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties. The Library Associate is required to have: demonstrated ability to perform one or more functional areas of librarianship at a beginning professional level of competence; demonstrated ability to train and guide library support staff; demonstrated ability to interact favorably with library patrons; strong information technology literacy skills. Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications as stated are encouraged to put in writing precisely how their background and experience have prepared them for the responsibilities of this position and by providing appropriate references. Exceptions to the degree requirements may be made for compelling reasons. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) or more years of academic library experience preferred. Strong word processing skills, including advanced functions in Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with Office 2007 preferred. Ability to work under pressure in multitask situations; problem solving and decision making skills; strong interpersonal skills including active listening; ability to train and supervise student workers; experience with computer hardware and software, knowledge of filing procedures; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, by phone and in person; and reading ability to interpret complex policy documents. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Library Associate works under the direction of the Director of Library Services, and will work closely with students, faculty and members of the public as well as other library staff members. The person in this position will be responsible for the overall administrative assistance to the library through a wide array of administrative functions including creating and maintaining spreadsheets of statistics of library activities and transactions. He/She will perform circulation duties, compile and collate library materials and prepare records and various communications. Interview, hire, train, and evaluate student workers as well as perform special projects as assigned. The Library Associate will provide assistance to patrons to aid in the effective use of library resources. Other duties may include preparing orders, on-line copy cataloging and processing materials received by the library. He/She will be expected to develop significant expertise in the use of Ex-Libris Voyager, the library integrated system. Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. All of these duties may involve attendance at evening or weekend events. STARTING SALARY: $41,901 approximate annual, plus excellent State supported fringe benefits.
