I definitely miss waxing, but that is $12+ more in our budget each month! I went to my office early and this is easy to whip up in the break room! We started a new section tonight and I think my students are really liking it a lot more than the first part of the class! Whew...makes my job easier! During class I snacked on roughly 2 servings of <strong>reduced fat wheat thins</strong> and a <strong>diet Sunkist</strong> for <strong>4 points</strong>. </p> <p>On the way home I had a <strong>oats &</strong> <strong>chocolate fiber one bar</strong> for <strong>2 points</strong>. Talk about having your desert before supper! Bad Zipper

<p>Thanks everyone for your kind words yesterday! I'm feeling much better today! You guys are the best!! :) </p> <p>After I posted last night something came over me and I just wanted to work out even though my head was saying I should take it easy! So I decided to do an "Around the World" circuit! If you haven't read <a href="http://www.bobbimccormick.com/">Bobbi's blog</a> before you need to *she’s awesome*, but <a href="http://www.bobbimccormick.com/?p=5122">here is the link to her video</a> explaining them! They may sound pretty easy, but believe me they get your heart rate up and keep it there! Felt great! </p> <p>For breakfast this morning I couldn't wait to get mix up a smoothie! So I had to hold it closed with my hand back to my office, use some binder clips to hold it together and then headed outside in the 25+mph winds! Luckily there were a pair of jeans in my car! We are going on a cruise in November and been wanting to get this done for a while. The 'do' and the Ambien experience

<strong>The 'do'</strong><br />I promise I'll post a picture of the new hair later. Although I'm not sure I like it. I have --- layers! I wondered what took her so long to cut it. Apparently she added layers under the pretense of "cleaning" up the ends.<br /><br />I thought it looked good when she styled it yesterday. This morning I was very frustrated trying to flat iron many different lengths of hair. My normal five minute process took about twenty minutes.<br /><br />It's funny, when I was fat if I got a haircut I didn't like, even a half inch shorter than I expected, I would cry. Seriously, I'd actually shed tears over my hair. It was like it was the only part of me that I had any control over. If I hated my hair, I felt 100% ugly because I already hated my body.<br /><br />Even though I'm not loving this haircut right now, it doesn't bother me. I feel like, oh well, it'll grow back. No big deal. Anyone that knew me before would be completely shocked over this attitude about my hair. Perhaps it's because I don't totally hate my body these days. Even though it's not perfect, I'm loving it a lot more than I did at 240 pounds. :)<br /><br /><strong>The Ambien experience</strong><br /><br />I've stopped taking Ambien, the prescription sleeping aid. It's dangerous! This morning I woke up and had red stuff all over my hands. It looked liked I'd murdered someone in my sleep.<br /><br />My fingers were literally "beet red". OMG! I ate the roasted beet dip! I headed into the kitchen and found the container in the refrigerator, with only a couple tablespoons of dip remaining. There was about 3/4 cup in the container when I went to bed. This meant I'd eaten almost the entire 3/4 cup of dip. Considering three tablespoons was 4.5 Points, this isn't a good thing.<br /><a name='more'></a><br />The even weirder thing, I didn't see any evidence of bread or crackers eaten with the dip. Plus, my fingers were a brillant red. Did I eat it with my fingers?!<br /><br />I honestly have no memory of eating anything at all last night and have no idea what else I may have eaten. This is scary stuff. If I could do this, could I get in my car and drive somewhere? Or what if I go to bed mad at my husband? What if that had been blood? Kind of scared the hell out of me.<br /><br />Since this is the second incident in a week where I have no memory, I've flushed the remaining five Ambien pills down the drain. It's too scary of what I'm capable of doing while under the influence. Eating food that I don't even remember enjoying is one thing, but what else am I capable of doing?<br /><br />I'll have to learn how to sleep on my own. I actually fell asleep a couple times last week without it so I think I'll be okay. Speaking of sleep...that's where I'm going now.<br /><br />Happy Tuesday!

<p>Hello my blog friends! I have kind of been on hiatus the past few days. I have just felt a little “off”. Please don’t abandon me! </p> <p>Here are a few things I’ve been up to!</p> <p>Thursday I worked till 5pm and then from 5:30-8pm I gave a test in my class. It was a long, draining day!</p> <p>Friday was work like normal, but then we had a little fun! Kyle and I played with our 2 little neighbor boys…they loved zooming around on Kyle’s Craftsman seat! Friday night we watched UP! The last thing you want to do is sabotage your employment search, and, since your résumé is typically the first impression that hiring managers have of you, it's also the first place where you can potentially ruin your chances.<br /><br />According to a survey conducted by Robert Half International, executives spend more than six minutes, on average, screening each résumé they receive -- which means every word counts in this critical document.<br /><br />Of course, no job seeker is going to shoot himself or herself in the foot on purpose. But you might be harming yourself without realizing it. Here are five common mistakes that put you at risk of losing the job opportunity:<br /><br />1. You don't proofread<br />Three out of four executives interviewed said just one or two typos in a résumé would remove applicants from consideration for a job. Since your word processing program has a spell-check function, you may think there's no need to review your résumé for typos and grammatical errors. Unfortunately, spell-checkers don't catch words that may be spelled correctly but used incorrectly: For example, if your most recent position was as a corporate blogger, your software may not raise the red flag if you mistakenly list yourself as a "logger." In addition to reading through the résumé yourself, you should also have someone else review it to catch any errors that you may have overlooked.<br /><br />2. You ignore potential red flags <br />When reviewing your résumé, imagine that it belongs to someone else. After reading through it, would you have questions about the information provided or be concerned by a lack of details? If you have these thoughts, rest assured potential employers will, too. For instance, one of the biggest red flags is a gap in employment that goes unexplained. Rather than make a hiring manager wonder why you were away from the workplace for an extended period of time, use your cover letter to address why you weren't working and how you continued to advance your career through volunteer opportunities, professional development courses or other means.<br /><br />3. You exaggerate your qualifications<br />Some people will do whatever they can to stand out, which includes fudging the details about a job title, the amount of time spent with an employer or a professional accomplishment. If you think that a hiring manager won't try to confirm your qualifications, think again. If you are caught making up information, you not only will lose out on the opportunity at that company but also may permanently harm your reputation. Even a small fib can prove harmful. For instance, if you're working toward a degree that you plan to complete by the summer, don't say you already have the credential.<br /><br />4. You don't explain yourself <br />The best résumés use specific language so hiring managers can clearly understand your qualifications and accomplishments. If you say you are "knowledgeable" about HTML, an employer will not know if you use it every day to code Web pages or if you simply know that the acronym stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. Instead of using a vague term, you should explain how you've used your knowledge of HTML for certain projects or to aid your employer, how long you've been using it and if you possess any relevant certifications. Along the same lines, be specific when listing periods of employment, including the month and year for start and end dates instead of just the year.<br /><br />5. You're too wordy<br />Sometimes it's difficult to determine what information belongs in your résumé and what can be safely left out. After all, the temptation is to describe any qualification that might remotely tip the scales in your favor. But you might not want to list every accomplishment, skill or project you've worked on. Hiring managers appreciate brevity, so cull the information you include, focusing on the aspects of your work history that are most relevant to the job for which you're applying. If you've had a long career, for instance, you may include fewer details about jobs you held early on that don't relate to your current career path. Weekend update

Just a quick post before I head out to the gym.<br /><br />First...hair cut! Yeah! Two inches off and very blond. I have a new stylist and colorist after ten years with my old ones. The previous stylist refused to cut my hair more than two inches. I finally made the brave move to someone new. If you're a guy, I know you don't understand how difficult this is to to do. If you're a woman, you probably get it. It's like breaking up with a girlfriend. Terribly difficult, and I even felt guilt ridden about it. Glad that's over!<br /><br />Yesterday I made <a href="http://urbanacres.wordpress.com/" target="blank">Roxie's</a> recipe she recommended for <a href="http://urbanacres.wordpress.com/" target="blank">Roasted Beet Dip</a>. This is a little piece of heaven on earth. It came out to one Point per tablespoon. The second one was 2.5 Points, the third was 4.5 Points. It's because of the high fat content (oil, walnuts), the Points grew exponentially. Totally worth it though and very healthy. Delicious! I had two tablespoons on a cup of spaghetti squash with a few ounces of turkey. Loved it!<br /><a name='more'></a><br />I cleaned out all my old makeup. Literally about a hundred plus items went into the trash. I'm not a hoarder of anything except makeup. I never use the old stuff, I just keep it as my "backups". I haven't once used any of my backups because I know they're germ infested old junk. I even got rid of a bunch of new makeup that I bought in the last six months but didn't like the color or the product. I love a clean, uncluttered look. Now my vanity table and my three shelves in the bathroom closet are clear and neat. Again, this was Roxie inspired.<br /><br />Well, time for the gym. 4:45am. Have to hit the road running. Have a fabulous day, and in <a href="http://ronmichel.blogspot.com/" target="blank">Ron's</a> famous words, make healthy choices today!

Too many words tonight

Each time I go a few days without posting, my mind starts to overflow with topics I want to write about. The more days that pass, the more cluttered my mind. I start a debate with myself, what shall I write about?<br /><br />1. Should I tell you about the miracle of living a sugar free diet? I know I've already talked about it, but it's so amazing I keep wanting to talk about it more. I feel like I've found the cure for my sickness<br /><br />2. Or tell you how I went from hating exercise with a passion two years ago to loving it to the point where it's almost another obsession now?<br /><br />3. Should I share the conversation I had with my husband this morning? The conversation where he basically said...no where he <strong>actually</strong> said I was selfish since I've lost weight. I don't pay any attention to him now. He said I focus on myself too much. It's a long story, and it was an unpleasant conversation. I'm still a little angry about it, but I'm trying to let it go.<br /><br />4. My bike ride into a strong headwind this morning. An extremely difficult ride going east, but clear sailing coming back home riding west. Sort of like losing weight, sometimes easy, sometimes so hard I think I'm going to die.<br /><br />5. My Ambien blackout I had last night where I ate 1/4 of a loaf of Dave's Killer bread but didn't remember a thing (about 500 calories). This morning I wanted to make breakfast and found the empty bread bag. I asked my husband if he ate bread in the middle of the night and why couldn't he have left me just one slice. He said of course he didn't eat bread in the middle of the night (like I was insane). Plus there was a full glass of milk, untouched, on the counter next to the empty bread bag. I don't remember what happened. Scary!<br /><br />6. My weigh in at Weight Watchers today where I lost 2.2 pounds, down to 168.8 (imagine if I hadn't eaten that bread last night!).<br /><br />7. The guy at Weight Watchers that made goal today, after six freaking years. He was funny, said remember the Tommy Turtle and Brer Rabbit. Well, he was Tommy Turtle. Plus after investing $2200 in Weight Watchers he decided it was time to get to goal. Cracked me up!<br /><br />8. The fact that I've only lost 11.6 pounds since January 9, 2010 (after a re-gain of 25 pounds last fall).<br /><br />9. The weird fact that I'm hooked on that Parenthood show. I'm not a parent. The show comes on too late for me so I watch it on On Demand. So strange that I love this show. Go figure.<br /><br />10. The miracle of sleep, right up there with a sugar-free diet.<br /><br />11. I haven't been counting Points. Just eating super healthy, smaller meals, more often. I'm not hungry, no cravings (except I guess I had a bread craving while under the influence of Ambien last night).<br /><br />It's freaking me out just a little that I don't dream or think about food every waking moment. This is a new experience for me. This week it's back to tracking every single Point, just because that's what I'm suppose to do.<br /><br />Those were a few of the things I wanted to write about today. There were more, but this post is already too long. Too many words. Time for me to shut up. :)

And how do you have the energy? I feel like I have no energy, by the time I get off work.</strong></em> </p> <p>I try to keep my ultimate goal in mind to keep me motivated and I think that is key with weight loss/fitness. Ultimately I want to be healthier and feel better in my own skin and I know to get there I need to, for example, get this workout in or keep my fridge stocked with healthy options! And we are all human and sometimes lose sight of that ultimate goal or sometimes it seems so far away you want to give up. But giving up doesn’t get you anywhere! </p> <p>And for the 2nd part of your question about having no energy after work…well I’ve found that if I come home I need to start in on supper right away, if I don’t I will plop down in the front of the computer or TV and that just pushes everything back! So I get to supper right away and then whatever other things I have on my agenda (exercise or cleaning) for that night and then if I get those things done then I can have some “me” time. </p> <p><em><strong>Question: Do you have any goals/plans in the future? You've ran in races with Kyle. Do you guys have anything planned next?</strong></em> </p> <p>That’s a BIG question! I have lots of goals/plans for the future, but weight loss & fitness wise I’m still working on meeting my goal weight. I would really like to get to 150lbs. Running wise Kyle & I are currently training for a 20K in early June. We will probably run a few other 5K’s throughout the summer as well. I hope to run the same half marathon that <a href="http://bangertfam.blogspot.com/2009/10/our-1st-half-marathon.html">">'>I ran last October</a> and get a better time! And that is about it for weight loss/fitness goals! </p> <p><strong><em>Question: I've always wondered what you teach? I'm getting my bachelors in English and I'm wondering if I'll be able to teach non-transfer classes at a community college. Is that what you do or do you have your masters?</em></strong> </p> <p>I am teaching Computerized Accounting. It is the first college course that I’m teaching. I have my Bachelors degree in Accounting and since it is not an upper level class and I am ok to teach it. Technically I think it depends on the institution on whether or not you could teach with just your Bachelors. If I wanted to teach full time I would have to get my Masters. A lot of people are really encouraging me to do that, but I didn’t love school too much when I was there (I wasn’t a bad student, just didn’t love it), it costs a lot of money, and Kyle (my husband) is in school right now too!! I already work at the college where I teach and so I had an “in” there and the person who “hired” me to do it is my former accounting advisor and she LOVED me, so that didn’t hurt either! </p> <p>And lastly, make sure to click on “<a href="http://weightloss-stories.blogspot.com/p/about-me_9387.html">About Me</a>” at the top of the page! Living SF

Yesterday <a href="http://mizfitonline.com/" target="blank">MizFit</a> left me a comment that she couldn't say much about bread because she was GF. I was puzzled. What did GF mean? GirlFriend? GoFer? Oh, I get it! Bread, Gluten-Free. I know several people that have a problem with gluten and are GF.<br /><br />Saying I'm SF should be acceptable, meaning I'm sugar-free. I've started telling this to my coworkers as they offer me candy, cookies, and other sweet treats on an almost daily basis. <br /><br />I've always refused them in the past by saying I'm trying to lose weight, but they'd push me and say you can have just one. Come on, just one. I'd still say no, but we'd always have this same stupid conversation. Now I'm telling them I "can't" eat sugar. <br /><br />When they start questioning me (they're all very thin and healthy), I tell them it's kind of like my peanut allergy. They understand the peanut allergy, how I break out in hives and can't breathe, but they can't grasp my problem with sugar. They can eat 1/4 of a Krispy Kreme maple bar and be fine with it. One of them did that last week, I mean, who eats 1/4 of of a doughnut? None of them actually eat a whole doughnut. <br /><br />I do eat fruit, even though it has fructose, a natural sugar, it's a slower release into the bloodstream because of the fiber in the fruit. It also has a lot of vitamins and nutrients. I've limited my fruit intake to two or three servings a day. I was eating five or six servings a day. That was definitely too much of a good thing, and I think it contributed to my cravings.<br /><br />Letting go of sugar has been a miracle for me. The food cravings are gone. I've noticed the biggest changes in the evenings. I don't go on a food scavenger hunt every night in the kitchen, looking for something to feed my cravings. I eat dinner, and then I'm done.<br /><br />If I'd only known about this forty years ago I think my life would have been a lot calmer, I wouldn't have lost and gained hundreds of pounds over the years. I wouldn't have lived in a constant frantic state of "I've got to lose weight!". I would have been "normal". <br /><br />If you suffer from cravings and night binging, you should try going completely sugar free. Just for one week to see if you notice any changes. I noticed big changes in just a few days, although those first few days were hell. It gets better as more time passes being SF.<br /><br />Be sure to read the labels on everything, especially Weight Watcher products. Their snack bars are the worst, the ones that taste like little cookies. The main ingredient is sugar, the second ingredient is corn syrup. Seriously Weight Watchers, what are you thinking selling these products to people trying to lose weight? Shame on you!<br /><br />If you're telling yourself this would be impossible, you can't live without sugar, think again. I had the biggest sweet tooth of anyone I know.<br /><br />I could eat an entire cake or an entire batch of chocolate chip cookie dough in one sitting. I know all about not being able to live without sugar. I know it's draw, it's attraction, it's soothing sweetness. I also know the insane, out-of-control cravings it causes. The wanting more and more sugar. For me, it's a serious addiction.<br /><br />You can do anything you set your mind to, and you can live without added sugar in your diet. Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can live sugar free.<br /><br /><strong>Great article</strong><br />I haven't read the entire article yet, but it looks really good. Snack Attack

<p>Tuesday in Iowa = Thunderstorm Day...It's been raining off and on all day! I do recall getting woke up a few times last night to thunder as well! But unlike when I was a kid, I was able to go right back to sleep! </p> <p>For some reason I had a hankering for eggs & toast this morning. So I made my <strong>egg over easy</strong> with a <strong>toasted thin bun</strong> for <strong>3 points</strong>! That's more than my breakfast and WAY less filling. </p> <p>So this is where my snacky-ness started. Once at work I dove right into my stash of snacks and had not 1, but <strong>2</strong> of these yummy little guys. Place in 9x13 pan and preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix soup and water. Put Swiss cheese on chicken breasts. Pour soup over chicken. Sprinkle crushed stuffing mix over chicken. Drizzle chicken broth over. We have about 6lbs of strawberries in our fridge (they were on sale at the grocery store) and that is just what I had to hold me over till lunch, 1 1/2 cups mixed with ww vanilla yogurt for 2 points. I came home, made supper, and got right back to work grading papers! Makes me officially feel like a college instructor now! Supper was simple, but yummy!
