I’ve been trying to find ways to make Facebook more useful and fun and I think I might have found one. I’ve been going through Groups to see what all topics are covered. Needless to say there are lots of groups for just about any topic. One that I found most interesting are the “Add Me” or “Add Lots of New Friends” groups. <o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">The idea is that everyone who joins the group should add everyone as a friend and we all get big friend numbers and look really cool and popular. I thought this would be as good a place as any to start. I joined one of them and posted “Hey everyone! Add me please!” Five people added me. The factory added lotus shoes for old Chinese women who still had bound feet to it’s product range in 1991. In the first two years, more than 2,000 pairs of shoes were sold annually. Not to be outdone, the <a class="inform_link" href="http://www.csmonitor.com/tags/topic/American+Petroleum+Institute" rel="nofollow" style="color: #205d87; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none;" target="_self" title="Title: American Petroleum Institute">American Petroleum Institute</a>, an oil and gas lobbying firm, has released <a href="http://energytomorrow.org/blog/2013/october/oct-28-americas-oil-and-natural-gas-industry-no-tricks-just-treats" style="color: #205d87; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">its own set of stencils to make a "high energy pumpkin"</a> blazoned with the image of an oil barrel or a full gas tank.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">So the question this Halloween isn't so much trick or treat? The stencils depict wind turbines, solar panels, compact fluorescent light bulbs, and other emblems of alternative energy, with DOE encouraging would-be carvers to "energize your neighborhood" this "Energyween." It's a fitting end to October, which was designated National Energy Action Month by <a class="inform_link" href="http://www.csmonitor.com/tags/topic/Barack+Obama" rel="nofollow" style="color: #205d87; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none;" target="_self" title="Title: Barack Obama">President Obama</a> in late September. </div><div style="margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">"[S]o while you’re stocking up on pumpkins, fall sweaters and Halloween candy, it's also a great time to think about actions you can take to save energy and money at home," reads a post announcing the stencils on DOE's website from earlier this month.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">Shorter days and cooler weather come together in October to begin a steady annual rise in electricity use as homeowners turn up the heat and keep lights on longer. In 2011, commercial and residential lighting made up about 12 percent of the nation's total electricity use. It can deduce your interests based on your web searches -- say, "The Walking Dead," or corgis -- and add a card to Google Now with the latest information about those interests. Google Now knows your location, and Google knows what people at that exact spot during that time are most likely to search. For example, someone standing in front of Old Faithful at Yellowstone might search for a schedule of when the geyser is going to erupt. Google is starting to index content deep inside of individual apps, so if you search for a recipe it might show a web page and a link to a cooking app you already have installed.
