Why a loss could push Bama out of BCS picture; Baylor moving ahead of OSU

With three weeks left in the regular season and most teams having just two games remaining, the number of potential BCS participants has dwindled to a manageable number.
But there's still plenty to be decided, as no team has clinched a spot in the BCS just yet, and the defending national champion has reached an 'all or nothing' position. For Alabama, it looks like national title game or bust, as one loss will more than likely knock the Crimson Tide out of a chance to play in any major bowl game this season. Here's how everything stacks up right now.

Next in line for BCS No. 1 and No. 2 spots: Ohio State, Baylor, Missouri, Auburn
If either Alabama or Florida State were to lose, it projects to be a tight race between Ohio State and Baylor to fill that opening in the top two. The Buckeyes currently hold a slight edge, but a win by Baylor over Oklahoma State this week should be more than enough to vault the Bears past OSU in the BCS standings. With Ohio State having lost more poll support off its Illinois game, Baylor appears to now be the team with the upper hand in this race. And as the legal situation of FSU quarterback Jameis Winston unfolds, we should at least acknowledge the possibility that some voters might drop the Seminoles behind OSU or Baylor if Winston is suspended and his availability for early January becomes uncertain.
