Volkswagen's top labor leader visited with Gov. Bill Haslam Thursday as workers, politicians and advocates continue to debate whether employees at the automaker's Chattanooga plant should unionize.

In an exclusive interview with newsandtalking.blogspot.com, Bernd Osterloh, head of VW's global works council program, said the Chattanooga's decision to unionize will not have any bearing on whether production for another vehicle will be added to the plant. Chattanooga is currently considered to be competing with Mexico for production of a midsize Volkswagen SUV.

Haslam and U.S. Sen. Bob Corker have warned of repercussions if the plant unionizes.

Osterloh, however, told the AP, 'Volkswagen is led by its board, and not by politicians.'
