The discovery of huge reserves off ISRAEL'S coast is changing the geopolitical balance of power in the region.<br /><br />Energy self-sufficiency had eluded the state of ISRAEL since its founding in 1948. Abundant oil and gas exploration was repeatedly undertaken with meager results. Unlike its energy-rich ARAB neighbors, ISRAEL seemed out of luck. Then, in 2009, ISRAEL’S exploration partner NOBLE ENERGY discovered the Tamar field in the LEVANTINE BASIN, some 50 miles west of Israel’s port of HAIFA and with an estimated 8.3 tcf (trillion cubic feet) of highest-quality natural gas. Government estimates were that ISRAEL'S sole operating field, Yam Tethys, which supplies about 70 per cent of the country's natural gas, would be depleted within three years. <br />With Tamar, prospects began to look considerably better. Then, just a year after Tamar, the same consortium led by NOBLE ENERGY struck the largest gas find in its decades-long history at Leviathan in the same Levantine geological basin. The gas field was discovered in October 2010 and Israel declared it its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).<br /><br />The find is some 84 miles west of the port of HAIFA and three miles deep. They named it Leviathan after the Biblical sea monster. Three ISRAELI energy companies, in cooperation with the HOUSTON TEXAS NOBLE ENERGY, announced initial estimates that the field contained 16 trillion cubic feet of gas—making it the world's biggest deep-water gas find in a decade. To put the number in perspective, that one gas field, Leviathan, would hold enough reserves to supply ISRAEL'S gas needs for 100 years. ISRAEL went from a gas famine to feast in a matter of months.<br /><br />With the Tamar and now Leviathan discoveries, ISRAEL was beginning to discuss how to become a major natural gas export nation, as well as whether to significantly tax gas and oil revenues and place them into an ISRAELI Sovereign Wealth Fund that would make long-term investments in the ISRAELI economy as CHINA and many ARAB OPEC nations do.<br /><br />Perhaps sensing that major oil and gas discoveries were being confirmed with the potential to change the geopolitics of the entire region, the US Geological Survey (USGS) launched its first-ever estimate of the total reserves of oil and gas in the broad region encompassing the EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN including the AEGEAN BASIN offshore GREECE, TURKEY and CYPRUS, the Levant Basin offshore LEBANON, ISRAEL and SYRIA, and the Nile Basin offshore Egypt. Their conclusion was impressive to put it mildly. <br />The USGS calculated the total for the EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN as a whole currently at 345 tcf of gas and 3.4 billion barrels of oil. The MIDDLE EAST and NORTH AFRICA regions have several natural gas-rich areas, including the Rub Al Khali Basin (426 trillion cubic feet) in southwestern SAUDI ARABIA and NORTHERN YEMEN; the Greater Ghawar Uplift in eastern SAUDI ARABIA (227 tcf) and the Zagros Fold Belt (212 tcf) along the PERSIAN GULF and into IRAQ and IRAN. <br />Just months earlier, securing foreign gas was a national security priority of ISRAEL as existing domestic gas supplies dwindled dangerously low. Further adding to the energy crisis were the so-called Arab Spring protests sweeping across EGYPT into LIBYA in early 2011. The revolts toppled Mubarak, under whose regime EGYPT had supplied some 40 per cent of ISRAELI natural gas.<br /><br />With Mubarak toppled and the ban lifted on EGYPT’S Islamic parties, especially the MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD and the radical Salafist Al-Nour Party, the gas pipeline delivering EGYPT’S gas to ISRAEL was the target of repeated sabotage and disruptions. The most recent was in February of this year in northern SINAI. ISRAEL was becoming more than nervous about its future energy security. <br />The discovery of Leviathan by ISRAEL in the waters offshore immediately triggered a new geopolitical conflict as LEBANON claimed that part of the gas field lay in LEBANESE territorial waters in the country’s EXCLUSIVE ECONOMIC ZONE (EEZ). LEBANON delivered maps to the UN to back its claim, to which ISRAELI Foreign Minister Lieberman retorted, <i>“We won’t give an inch.” </i><br /><br />The fly in the Mediterranean energy soup is the fact that ISRAEL, like the USA, has never ratified the 1982 UN Convention on Law of the Sea dividing world subsea mineral rights. The ISRAELI gas wells at Leviathan are clearly within undisputed ISRAELI territory as LEBANON affirms. But LEBANON believes the field extends over into their subsea waters as well. In July of 2011, Israel was preparing to submit its own proposal to the UN as to where the offshore demarcation line between LEBANON and ISRAEL should run. At the same time, Frederick Hof, the US diplomat responsible for special affairs regarding SYRIA and Lebanon, told LEBANON that the Obama administration endorsed the LEBANESE document. This added to the growing tensions reported since the outbreak of the Arab Spring between ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER BENJAMIN NETANYAHU and OBAMA.<br /><br />Netanyahu has reportedly recently urged AMERICA’S eighth-wealthiest person, his close friend Las Vegas casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson to pour millions directly into the campaigns of Republicans, including Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney. This would represent an unprecedented direct ISRAELI intervention into US presidential candidates’ campaigns, in order to try to avert a second Obama term.  <br />New issues of control of the vast energy reserves being discovered off ISRAELI and LEBANESE, CYPRIOT, TURKISH and GREEK shores will clearly play a growing role in one of the most entangled political regions on Earth.<br /><div class="darkgreen"><i>­F. When students log on to the Internet this page will come up and on it will be links to everything you might want them to use - targetted links, a clock, possibly even a dictionary, notes etc. Let me start off by showing you a sample from the site we will use. I have all my websites saved in my Diigo bookmarks, and otherwise on files saved on my computer. It was often a mission to pass this on to my students. Recently I read a post by the ever-inspiring <a href="http://askatechteacher.wordpress.com/2012/02/22/how-to-integrate-web-2-0-tools-into-the-classroom/" target="_blank">Jacqui Murray</a> suggesting an Internet Start Page in passing on her post. This idea really 'jumped out' of the page and I started to explore.<br /><br /><o:p></o:p><br />The first thing to do is to open Protopage (<a href="http://http%3B/www.protopage.com" target="_blank">http;//www.protopage.com</a>) to reister and name your page. You then give your page a title, and you start deleting all the 'widgets' that are there as placeholders. Having twice suffered destructive bouts of hyperinflation in the late 1980s, they are sensitive to rising prices. When they spot inflation their instinct is to dump the peso and buy dollars. But after the economy collapsed in 2001-02, horror at mass unemployment temporarily eclipsed the public’s fear of inflation. That has been the successful political calculation of the president, Cristina Fernández, and her late husband and predecessor, Néstor Kirchner. For years they stoked an overheating economy with expansionary policies. Faced with the resulting rise in inflation, their officials resorted to price controls—and to an extraordinarily elaborate deception to conceal the rise.</i></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i>Since 2007, when Guillermo Moreno, the secretary of internal trade, was sent into the statistics institute, INDEC, to tell its staff that their figures had better not show inflation shooting up, prices and the official record have parted ways. Private-sector economists and statistical offices of provincial governments show inflation two to three times higher than INDEC’s number (which only covers greater Buenos Aires). Unions, including those from the public sector, use these independent estimates when negotiating pay rises. Surveys by Torcuato di Tella University show inflation expectations running at 25-30%.</i></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i>PriceStats, a specialist provider of inflation rates which produces figures for 19 countries that are published by State Street, a financial services firm, puts the annual rate at 24.4% and cumulative inflation since the beginning of 2007 at 137%. INDEC says that the current rate is only 9.7%, and that prices have gone up a mere 44% over that period (see chart).</i></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i>INDEC seems to arrive at its figures by a pick-and-mix process of tweaking, sophistry and sheer invention. Graciela Bevacqua, the professional statistician responsible for the consumer-price index (CPI) until Mr Moreno forced her out, says that he tried to get her to omit decimal points, not round them. That sounds minor—until you calculate that a 1% monthly inflation rate works out at an annual 12.7%, whereas 1.9% monthly compounds to 25.3%.</i></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i>Threatening letters sent by the government to independent economists also shed light on INDEC’s methods. One was told that since the cost of domestic service was “a wage, not a price”, he should not have included it in his CPI calculations. “They have put a lot of effort and lawyers into such arguments,” he says.</i></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i>Ana María Edwin, INDEC’s current boss, is unrepentant. In Ms Bevacqua’s day, INDEC artificially boosted the inflation rate, perhaps to benefit holders of inflation-linked bonds, she claims. She hints at underhand, possibly criminal, dealings between former INDEC staff, independent Argentine economists and international financiers. The evidence? That agreements between Mr Moreno and retailers to cap prices of basic products were not reflected in INDEC’s calculations before 2007. That suggests INDEC is now using some government-mandated prices rather than those that consumers actually pay.</i></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i>When a product’s price spikes, INDEC takes it out of the CPI basket. “Poor people don’t just keep buying things if their price goes up a lot,” Ms Edwin explains. “They think: I will leave those tomatoes for the rich.” A proper CPI calculation does indeed involve rules for dealing with changes in buying patterns. But the potential for abuse is clear.</i></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i>Some Argentine government bodies seem well aware of the true inflation rate. Foreign investors report presentations by the Central Bank mentioning a real (ie, inflation-adjusted) exchange rate that implies annual inflation of around 20%. Economists who have picked through the somewhat suspect figures for economic growth say they can discern a similar rate in the “deflator” used to correct some prices. Perhaps most intriguingly, INDEC’s and PriceStats’ inflation rates accelerate and decelerate in tandem.</i></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i>The government has gone to extraordinary lengths, involving fines and threats of prosecution, to try to stop independent economists from publishing accurate inflation numbers. The American Statistical Association has protested at the political persecution faced by its Argentine colleagues, and is urging the United Nations to act, on the ground that the harassment is a violation of the right to freedom of expression.</i></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i>At the government’s request, last year the IMF sent experts to help it plan a new national CPI. Ms Edwin says that the new index will not be ready until early 2014.</i></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><i>The longer this deception goes on, the trickier it is for the government to end. Faced with deteriorating fiscal accounts, Ms Fernández has begun to trim subsidies amounting to 5% of GDP. Their removal will push prices up further—as would a weakening of the peso. So Mr Moreno’s latest wheeze involves responding to a vanishing current-account surplus with strict import controls, which will undermine growth. Argentina has created a statistical labyrinth that might have been dreamed up by Jorge Luis Borges, the country’s greatest writer. This story is unlikely to have a happy ending.</i></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><b><i>CORRECTION:</i></b><i> This article originally described State Street as an "investment bank". Argentina economy never will reach the deficit of 15 trillion debts as the USA. On July 31, 2011 President Obama desperate demanded another 3 trillion dollars borrowed from foreign countries as the Department of Treasury did not have sufficient funds to pay the foreign debt placing the USA in a critical situation that can happen again this year. On July 31, 2011 President Obama desperation forced him to announce publicly that senior citizens on social security might not receive their checks on August 3, 2011. That is corruption. The social security funds are for the retirees not to pay the foreign debt. As you can see the economists have failed to identify what caused the USA economy to reach such deficit. Presently, the USA economy is in the same situation than July 31, 2011. No improvement has been made to relieve the 24 millions unemployed, the 44 million citizens on food stamps, the housing market, the high price of gasoline, the healthcare insurance that only a few can afford to pay. The USA economy doesn’t present a good future for me. Smoke Rings In The Dark: Karaoke Night In Elko

After a day full of humanity and conversation at St. Paul’s, I had dinner at Elko’s famous Star Hotel. Basque food still confuses me. It is familiar items served in strange combinations – pasta and French fries. But I am more than fond of it. I am committed to it. As I ate the cabbage soup I remembered that my older daughter’s first boyfriend was Nacho (Ignacio – as in the greatest Basque saint, Ignazio Loiolakoa a/k/a Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Jesuits) – his name, I say, was Nacho Larracochea. It was not a great romance. They were only in the second grade. But Basque food makes me sentimental for times, people, and places left behind. Yes, friends, I had my first Picon Punch and was briefly confused by the grenadine, fearing there might be gin in there somewhere. Gin and I had a falling out 40 years ago and never made up. But there was no gin. So I enjoyed my Basque dinner very much indeed.<br /><br /> Then I made my annual pilgrimage to J. R’s Bar for karaoke night. I love J. R’s Bar for ineffable reasons even I do not understand. But tonight it was a special study – karaoke night. The first performer after I arrived was a big ugly guy in shorts and a t-shirt who did violence to Billy’ Joel’s song Honesty that would have been outrageous except that such a schmaltzy preachy song – music and lyrics equally reprehensible – deserves whatever it gets.<br /><br /> But then things took an unexpected turn. The DJ, an obese decidedly unattractive woman sitting behind her console took the mike and sang the 1955 Eddy Arnold hit (given definitive expression by Ray Charles and current expression by Michael Buble) You Don’t Know Me. Her voice was pretty good, but the thing was, I believed her. I believed she lived unknown and the loneliness was palpable. <br /><br /> The next singer was a larger woman who sat in a corner to sing, I imagined, because she was ashamed to stand in front of people. She was not alone at her table. She was with a young man who was probably attractive in a shaved head, ear ring, goateed sort of way. But she sat there in the corner so obscurely that it took me awhile to find where the voice was coming from as she sang, <br /><br /> Take the ribbon from my hair<br /> Shake it loose and let it fall . . . .<br /><br />And all the times I have ever heard that song in its contrived sexiness were exposed as a sham. Her voice was rich, expressive without pathos, just real, keeping the un-self-pitying loneliness between the notes. I noticed my face was wet and I was glad for the darkness of the bar and wondered if my feelings were coming from the bourbon in my glass, the emotional challenge of this past month, or a lifetime of encounters with the loneliness of others and sometimes my own.<br /><br /> The next performer was the young man who sat with her, Scotty, clearly a favorite at J. R.’s. He had a splendid voice for Western singing – to be distinguished from country. Country singing calls for “a cry in the voice like Haggard” – but Western singing is a train whistle in a canyon. It is not about loneliness. It is loneliness, without self-pity, for it is the sound of a humanity that knows no home but the desert. Such was Scotty’s voice as he sang that most curious of neo-ballads about past life regression, El Paso City – a déjà vu remembrance of the story line of El Paso, a narrative somehow haunting the pilot who suspects he is the dead cowboy reincarnated. <br /><br /> Scotty was in his late 20s. Marty Robbins, whom I remember quite well – whom I remember from the days of El Paso, long before he sang El Paso City “I don’t’ recall who sang the song” he sang ironically – Marty Robbins had been dead a good long while before Scotty saw the light of day. Scotty would think of Marty Robbins the way I might think of the whistling brakeman, Jimmy Rogers. But his performance was just superb; his voice the soul of the West and it was for me a déjà vu about a déjà vu. As he returned to his table with the large young woman, someone called from the back, “Who was that by?” – they were not joking – they actually asked who El Paso City was by – and Scotty answered quietly as if the question were perfectly natural, “Marty Robbins.”<br /><br /> Another man followed Scotty, a 50 something bald guy who was the epitome of ordinariness in his appearance, but his voice was smooth as Gentleman Jack as he crooned Amarillo By Morning and I found myself loving Texas “pure and chaste from afar” – I love Texas best at a safe distance. Then came a particularly handsome young man, in a Tom Cruise sort of way, who rapped a song in such a blatantly white style that I was embarrassed for my race. <br /><br /> Then Scotty returned to the stage and sang country lyrics this time, but still with that train whistle in the canyon voice, <br /> <br /> The rain falls where it wants to<br /> The wind blows where it will<br /> Everything on earth goes somewhere<br /> But I swear we’re standing still<br /> So I’m not gonna wake you<br /> I’ll go easy on your heart<br /> I’ll just touch your face and drift away<br /> Like smoke rings in the dark.<br /><br />I finished my drink and walked back to my room though the cold dark night with a Taurus moon.

Legislative decisions such as allowing Monsanto's synthetic hormone Posilac (rBGH) to be injected into U.S. cows despite being banned in 27 countries. How did Monsanto pull this off?<br /><br />The biotech juggernaut managed to infiltrate the FDA positions responsible for the approval of rBGH, going as far as instating the company's own Margaret Miller as Deputy Director of Human Safety and Consultative Services. After assuming this position, Miller reviewed her own report on the safety and effectiveness of rBGH.<br /><br /><h1>Many US diplomats pawns of Monsanto's GM agenda</h1>While it may be shocking to you if you are not familiar with the corrupt influence of Monsanto, the cables also show that many US diplomats are pushing GMO crops as a strategic government and commercial imperative. Weight Loss Jar

You named it, I've tried it. I should say here that this is a classic chandelier shape, and in many cases I really do like it. However in this instance it always felt like putting lipstick on a pig.<br /><br />It had also been hung way too high and, the cherry on top, several of the arms were loose and crooked and all tightening attempts would fail. Usually resulting in a shade popping off and landing in your salad. True story.<br /><br />So after years and years of hearing me complain about it, my parents were kind enough to give me a new chandelier for Christmas. WAHOO!<br /><br />Now normally this would be an hour project on Saturday as my husband has hung many a light in his day.<br /><br />However, since the table is off center, I wanted the light centered over the table, rather than centered in the room. We've had many guests bang their head on that chandelier, so it was really for the safety of those I love. I know, I know, I'm a giver.<br /><br />Luke, being the wonderful husband he is, said no problem (while rolling his eyes) and headed up to the attic. Not a problem was the verdict. We measured, figured out where the new hole needed to be and he got to cutting. For those not familiar with it, its kind of like asbestos - best not bother it if you don't have to. And really, comparing something in your home to asbestos? Never a good sign.<br /><br />Apparently the wire was just a few inches short of reaching the new hole. And my husband's many attempts at getting a new wire to connect to the old wire were just not working. Something about the grounding of the wire blah blah blah. All I heard was 'electrician needed'.<br /><br />Damn.<br /><br />So while we waited for the electrician, we patched the old hole and painted the ceiling. Persevering

Sometimes there are just no words. Given that I tend to be such a "chatty Cathy" at times, this might seem unimaginable to those who really know me.  I'm going to try to find the words though. <br /><br />I once said that if I could accomplish my weight loss goals, I could accomplish anything life threw at me.  I would know that I had the perseverance necessary to get through <i>anything </i>at all.  It's a really hard journey for us at times... losing weight.  It takes hard work, dedication, heart, self love, discipline, focus, and most importantly, time.    <br /><br />When things don't go the way we want them to <i>when </i>we want them to, <i>those </i>are the most important times for us on this journey.  Afterall, when things are going well, there is nothing to worry about right?   Our character isn't being challenged.  But when we hit those stumbling blocks along the way, we need to know that we will get through it eventually.  It is during <i>those</i> times that our character is being developed.  Do we choose to react to our emotions, and eat away the pain of our current problem{s}, in other words, do what we've always done?  Or do we choose to be positive and know that in God's bigger plan for us is something better - a bigger loss next week, perhaps, if we stay obedient to the plan we've been asked to follow.<br /><br />We didn't put on The Big Weight over night, so the troubles are not going to go away over night either.  Still, we have to really work at achieving what we want and when challenges come along, <i>as they always will</i>, we need to face them head on.  We need not run away.  We need not get angry.  We need not feel hopeless. <br /><br />Someday The Big Weight will be no more.<br /><br />Someday I will look back and say instead:<br /><blockquote class="tr_bq"> <i>"</i><i>It wasn't weight loss that was my greatest accomplishment in life.  It was that after having my heart broken into a million pieces by someone whom I trusted would never do that, I still managed to put a smile on my face and trust in God that it would get better.......and it did!"</i>  </blockquote><br /><i>That </i>will make me unstoppable.

Head Librarian - Pequot Library

<strong>Head Librarian</strong> - <span style="color: #48286d;"><strong>Pequot Library</strong></span> in Southport CT. The Head Librarian reports to the Executive Director and supervises and coordinates library adult and children’s public services and technical services. The Head Librarian: Helps the Library keep abreast of the highest professional standards in the library world and takes initiative to implement those standards; Ensures friendly, encouraging, professional reference, research and circulation services for all library users; Represents the Library to the community both inside the institution and outside at community events, conferences, etc.; The Head Librarian also oversees and maintains and develops the Library’s popular reading collection of books, periodicals and other materials. The Salary for this position meets CLA recommended minimum standards and will be based on experience and previous positions held. Responsibilities: Assists the Executive Director in the creation of long-range, strategic, and annual plans to help ensure the Library meets the informational needs of the community it serves and to determine appropriate staffing levels. Participates with the rest of the staff and the Committee of the Library in the development and presentation of a wide range of educational programming for children and adults. Hires, trains, schedules, evaluates and supervises circulation, reference, adult and children’s public service and technical service staff. Ensures that all public access technology is up to date and functioning properly. Evaluates and modifies service procedures to meet the needs of the library patrons. Coordinates and participates in the development, evaluation, and selection and deaccession of library materials for the adult popular reading collection and reference services. Supervises and participates in ordering cataloging, circulation, repair and maintenance of material. Submits to the Executive Director timely narrative and statistical reports on the use of the library. Pequot Library: For over 120 years, Pequot Library has been a pillar of Fairfield County, providing professional, encouraging library services and diverse programming to the local and regional community. Pequot Library: Helps adults and children alike to develop a life-long interest in reading and learning through engaging programs and special activities; Presents concerts, exhibits, lectures, and a wide range of cultural, educational and community events in both its auditorium and Perkin Art Gallery; Engages the pressing issues of the day with its collections and adult programs; Integrates its internationally important Special Collections into its day-to-day service to the community through exhibits, programs and hands-on events; Preserves its original 1889 building, one of Connecticut’s historic treasures, as an ideal setting for all these activities. A MLS from an accredited Library School is required, and a minimum of five years of increasing management responsibility strongly recommended. <strong>Assistant Librarian</strong> – The <span style="color: #48286d;"><strong>Beacon Falls Public Library</strong></span> is seeking a friendly, outgoing and well-organized team player with exceptional customer service skills to fill a 30-hr. /week full-time vacancy. The Assistant Librarian must possess a jack-of-all-trades background with proven proficiency in math, Microsoft Excel and Word, familiarity with web-based library automation systems, preferably Evergreen, and cataloging know-how. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, all library bookkeeping and record keeping functions, monthly financial and statistical reports, interlibrary loans, a full range of circulation desk duties, cataloging, preparing CLC audio and video circuit packets for shelf/exchange, and supervision of library volunteers. The Assistant Librarian reports directly to the Library Director and fills in for the Director during periods of absence. The ideal candidate will also possess proficiency in Web 2.0 applications including, but not limited to, Facebook and Twitter, and the ability to update the library’s website using the content management platform, Drupal. Another Goal Reached

I'm down another 5 lbs this week, bringing me to a total loss of 33.8 lbs.  I am really proud of myself that this weight is continuing to come off.  I'm also thrilled that I have chosen to deal with the cards I've been dealt lately, instead of eating away the pain.  <br /><br />Right now weight loss is the easiest it's ever been.  I never imagined I'd find myself saying that.  Only one other time in recent history do I remember not having an interest in food, and that was when I had food poisoning in the fall.  Since Wednesday, I can count the number of things I've eaten on two hands.  I know things will get back to normal soon enough with my eating habits, but for now I am going to be thankful that at least this good is happening :).<br /><br />Still searching for a charm to add to my weight loss bracelet.  I have some ideas in mind and hope to make a purchase this week.<br /><br />I have also decided to drop my nursing classes this semester since there are some other life situations taking precedence right now, so you should be seeing a lot more of me around these parts.  I'm okay with it.  In fact, I'm okay with this breakup too.  It is necessary, for now.  As each day goes on God reminds me of other blessings I have in my life and those are bringing me happiness.   <br /><br />Thank you all for your support.  I appreciate it more than you know.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
