First US Bitcoin ATMs Coming to Seattle and Austin

They are cash-only machines and they have a few additional security features, such as biometric and optical scanners.<br />In theory, this should allow much higher levels of security than <a href="http://www.coindesk.com/tag/atms/">regular ATMs</a>. The barcode scanner can be used to scan QR codes and transfer bitcoins to your mobile. The ATMs can also scan government issued IDs, including driver’s licences.<br /><h2>First in the US</h2>Robocoin ATMs have been deployed in several markets, including <a href="http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-atm-installations-surge-canada/">Canada</a>. However, in other parts of the world deployment has proved problematic. Robocoin was supposed to install ATMs in Taiwan and Hong Kong, but Taiwanese authorities quickly moved to <a href="http://www.coindesk.com/taiwan-regulators-block-robocoin-bitcoin-atms/">block the deployment </a>of machines to the island nation.<br />This should not be the case in Austin or Seattle, but there is still a lot of regulatory ambiguity. It all boils down to how the authorities choose to classify the Robocoin contraptions; they can view them as kiosks, ATMs or even vending machines that dispense a commodity in the form of bitcoins.<br /><h2>Singapore and London</h2>In related news, <a href="http://www.coindesk.com/atm-pioneer-machines-singapore-london/">Bitcoiniacs</a> are planning to install Robocoin ATMs in both London and Singapore by mid-March. London is currently witnessing three different bitcoin startups racing to install the city’s <a href="http://www.coindesk.com/startups-race-install-londons-first-bitcoin-atm/">first bitcoin ATM</a>.<br />Singapore was chosen by Bitcoiniacs due to its relatively clear rules on bitcoin taxation, and of course the city’s trend setting image in much of Asia. I should know .... I grew up in it. The mass grave outside of my mother's home town is where my grandmother is buried. When I visited the <b><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_Palace">Summer Palace</a></b> outside of St. Petersburg last year .... the same wall that was left standing after the Nazis burned down the place is still there .... showing all the signs of fire and smoke damage. My father's war stories. The war stories from his "brothers in arms". My mother's stories. etc. etc. etc. The experience of the Second World War is ingrained in every Russian .... including me.<br /><br />The Russian government's new focus on the Second World War is therefore nothing new .... in fact .... I would say that it has never changed. The scars are still all there, and I would wager that it would take a few more generations before it is downgraded to the same level that Americans are at when they look at their own "American civil war" .... an event that happened a long time ago but shaped the country that Americans live in today.

She reads about finally finding a safe haven and sleeping in her own bed. Daryl and Beth come on and come across railroad tracks. Sadly, they come across a couple walkers eating human flesh. Daryl takes care of them and Beth looks at the carnage. As Daryl walks on nonchalantly, Beth just stands there and begins sobbing. The duo continue on, stopping at nightfall to start a fire. They hear a sound and Ty hands the baby over to the girls and looks in the brushes. Turns out, it was just a group of birds but Mika takes off, Lizzy and Ty (holding Judith) following her. Mika said she got scared and Ty comforts her. He tells Mika to try to stay close. Mika remarks she's not like Lizzy but Ty assures her that it's okay. The crew are interrupted by screams. He places the girls back to back, Lizzy holding the baby. Ty assures them to stay close and to either run together or fire if they have to. Much to Mika's distress, Ty takes off to help. Ty runs to the train tracks where two men and a woman are being attacked. Ty goes to help kill off the walkers but it's too late for the family. Meanwhile, baby Judith won't stop crying. Lizzy covers Judith's mouth to stifle her cries. Two walkers come out of the woods towards Mika. A gun shot is heard. Ty finishes off the walkers but not wihtout the older man being bit. The group heads down the tracks. Carol explained that she kept looking around and tried to go back to the prison but she went when it was too late so she followed Ty and the girls. Ty suggests going back to Carol's car but Carol said it was pointless. Maggie runs toward the bus, the two following her. They check the bus up close to see it is full of walkers. Maggie is hellbent on getting in the bus but Bob and Sasha suggest they open the door and let one walker out at a time. Sasha lets out one, a male walker. A few more walkers are let out, none of them being Glenn. However, Sasha is overpowered by the walkers and they all pour out. The three slash the walkers, Maggie bashing one's head in the side of the bus before stabbing it's head. Maggie, still unsatisfied, goes into the bus to see what is left. Maggie notices a walker is still awake, a walker with black hair...but it's not Glenn. Maggie slashes the walker and falls onto the bus seat, sobbing at the thought that her husband is gone. He goes back in the cell where he stayed with Maggie and pulls out his riot armor and helmet. Glen lays down on the bed to take a breather and comes across a picture of Maggie on his bedside. He begins weeping, wondering what happened to her. Glen goes into different cells and gathers supplies before heading back out where he came from. Glenn bravely jumps down as hordes of zombie surround him but the padding on his gear protects him. Glenn and Tara make their escape. They come across Carol's burned vehicle. As they are walking down the road, Tara explains that she trusted the Governor and that "Brian" told them all that Glenn and his crew were bad. Tara feels enourmous guilt for being part of it once he saw how the Governor killed Hershel. Glenn throws it in Tara's face how Hershel was a good man and he taught Glenn to believe, so he believe he needed to find Maggie. Before they can go further, they come across more walkers. Glenn kills a couple before realizing he can't take much and stumbles down. A walker sneaks behind  Tara so she turns and bashes his head in. A big Army truck pulls up. My guess is Beth took it the hardest. Even during the apocalypse, Beth was somewhat "sheltered" and never really participated in the fighting. CoinTerra to Release GSX I Water-Cooled PCIe Bitcoin Mining Card

The GSX I is a 400 GH/s unit that has a 28nm chip.<br />Jim O’Connor, vice president of engineering for CoinTerra, spoke to CoinDesk about the upcoming launch, and said he believes using water is the best method of cooling for a card.<br />Said O’Connor:<br /><blockquote>“With the PCIe form factor and space constraints of a PC case, there simply is no other solution that is able to dissipate heat effectively enough.<br />Mounting any form of air cooling head on the ASIC would make it impossible to fit the card in any standard motherboard and not take up more than two PCIe slots”</blockquote><h2>Product testing</h2>O’Conner believes that the card will allow for increased mining flexibility.<br />“The GSX I is designed to facilitate daisy chaining via USB using a PC host, but we will ultimately leave it up to the community to experiment with their own flavors of controller,” he said.<br />CoinTerra stated that, through testing, it has found that a single BeagleBoard host could control at least 20 cards.<br />“Our simulations show that a single BeagleBone Black should be able to provide work to a large number of GSX I cards,” said O’Connor.<br />A <a href="http://beagleboard.org/products/beaglebone%20black" target="_blank">BeagleBone Black is a $45 device</a> powered by a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8.<br /> <figure class="wp-caption aligncenter" id="attachment_46514"><a href="http://media.coindesk.com/2014/02/gsx1render2.png"><img alt="Side view rendering of the GSX I. Source: <a href="https://cointerra.com/product/gsxi/#%21prettyPhoto" target="_blank">CoinTerra</a></figcaption></figure><h2>Increased competition</h2>CoinTerra isn’t the only mining company developing water-cooled PCI cards.<br />Kansas City-based <a href="http://www.coindesk.com/tag/butterfly-labs/">Butterfly Labs</a> also has a similar product on the way. Called the Monarch, that unit is a <a href="http://www.butterflylabs.com/monarch/" target="_blank">600 GH/s 350 watt card for $2,196</a>. By comparison, the GSX I consumes 400 watts of power and costs $1,599.<br />The Monarch is expected to start shipping this month. It will be available in air or water-cooled configurations.<br />Josh Zerlan, VP of product for Butterfly Labs, recently told CoinDesk that radiator mounting is one challenge for water board cooling.<br />O’Conner says that CoinTerra’s GSX I will fit within a standardized specification.<br />“The radiator is designed for easy mounting using standard 120mm fan mounts available in most standard PC cases,” he said.<br /><h2>Launch criticisms</h2>CoinTerra plans to ship the GSX I by June. The company has received some criticism for not shipping its first product, the <a href="http://cointerra.com/product/terraminer-iv-2ths-networked-asic-miner-may-batch/" target="_blank">$5,999 2 TH/s TerraMiner</a>, on time.<br />In a statement to CoinDesk last week, CoinTerra addressed the situation. The company wrote that units are being delivered, and that it is trying to ramp up operation.<br /><blockquote>“In addition to our initial production facility, we have brought a second, larger production facility online to increase volume substantially, allowing us to quickly catch up to our communicated delivery dates and meet future batch expectations.”</blockquote><a href="https://cointerra.com/product/gsxi/">Preorders for the GSX I are open now</a>. The scheduled date for shipments is June 2014.</div>

I had a very pleasant surprise the other day that was completely unexpected.<br /><br />As I was going through my Emails, I found one addressed to me from someone that I didn't recognize right away but I didn't just automatically send it to the trash bin.<br /><br />I decided to open it and then the light bulb came on.<br /><br />It was from a reader of this Blog who comments occasionally.<br /><br />For privacy reasons, that persons identity will stay between me, them and the fucking NSA.<br /><br />The real surprise was that they mentioned that would be coming into town and was wondering if we could meet up as they would like to meet me!<br /><br />Quite the shock, I didn't know what to think. Sounded reasonable enough so what the hell?<br /><br /><br /> We exchanged Emails and decided on a suitable location and time.<br /><br />Of course the weather was crappy but I jumped in my rig and took off across town Saturday afternoon.<br /><br />Sure enough,found 'em right away.<br /><br />One hell of a nice guy!<br /><br />I invited him to lunch and after a false start we found a place close by that actually had indoor seating, the first choice didn't.<br /><br />We didn't have a whole lot of time so we didn't have a chance to really delve into too much but <br />we had a nice little chat and found out we actually had several things in common.<br /><br />We talked about our common interests and some about the current situation we find ourselves in regarding our country going down the shitter at high velocity.<br /><br />I see we are both on the same wave length and I was just tickled to actually meet someone who is.<br /><br />It's not as common as I would like.<br /><br />It's unfortunate that he doesn't live close by but he does have a connection here that gives him a reason to be in town occasionally.<br /><br />I am looking forward to hooking up again and picking up the conversation where we left off.<br /><br />A real nice guy and he has some hard to find real world skills that could be in great demand at some point in the future.<br /><br /><br />The web tightens.<br />I keep hearing about tribe and I find it isn't that damn easy finding folks who are on the same page around here. Apparently he has the same issue where he is at.<br /><br /><br />I don't know anyone around here and really don't want to know anyone around this immediate area because this neighborhood is right on the edge of a ghetto. Don't get me wrong, it's all a working mans Blue Collar neighborhood on my street and up the hill.<br />Go down the hill two blocks and it's a whole nuther story though.<br /><br />The good news is that it is very encouraging to actually meet another Patriot, finally.<br /><br /><br /><br />If anyone else has the opportunity to be in the area and would like to meet for lunch, my Email is available by looking at my profile.<br /><br />Just be aware that I work swing shift six days a week so Saturday is generally the best for me.<br /><br />I am still kind of in shock to meet a real person who reads this Hot Mess of a Blog though...... and actually admits it!<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
