At least 3 people  were killed when the tornado struck an area in Washington County, Illinois. In case of a catastrophe, the authorities will take care of the citizens, but sadly few people will take care of pets. This is why you need to get everything ready to care for your pet, should you have to face a natural disaster. Here are some useful tips to help you.</p> <ol> <li>If a disaster leaves you and your pet trapped indoors, always make sure there is an emergency supply of your pet's favorite food on "paw". Just as important is a strong water supply. Always have many bottles of fresh water available, as running water may not work in your home.</li> <li>Always keep your pet close in tornado season. Should there be an alert, you can grab your furry friend and take shelter with him.</li> <li>You may not be able to get in touch with your Veterinarian, so if your four-legged pal takes any medication, make sure you have enough to last at least a week.</li> <li>If you must leave your home, it is helpful to have a pet carrier available, but make sure it is one that your dog or cat is used to and will enter voluntarily. To ensure that your pet does not make a break for it, use a carrier that can be locked and is inescapable.</li> <li>Bring some of your pet's favorite belongings, such as blankets, toys and treats. Chances are, your pet will be frightened or confused, so it is a good idea to bring familiar things that will keep Fido or Fluffy at ease.</li> <li>In any emergency situation, people, as well as pets, will be frightened. Comfort your pet by remaining calm and speaking in a reassuring and soothing tone. Also pay attention to body language such as shaking and clinginess.</li> <li>Practice makes perfect. Having a well thought out escape plan can save your life and your pet's life. Every once in a while, try some evacuation exercises with your family and pooch or feline. This can help make an evacuation much more organized and calm for all involved.</li> <li>It is very important for your pet to always wear his or her collar with proper identification. This is similar to a human always having their driver's license with them. Pet parents can also have a tiny microchip implanted in their pet to help locate them in case they are separated. These precautions can ensure a happy reunion if you are separated from your furry friend!</li> <li>If you and your pet are separated, pay daily visits to local shelters, animal control facilities, veterinary offices and kennels until you have found it. You can also post photos of your lost pet. If your pet has tattoos, a microchip or other permanent identification, this will increase the chances of finding it. Analysis: Republicans plan 2014 campaign around Obamacare chaos [ BeritaTerkini ]

<div id="yom-ad-LREC" class="yom-ad yom-ad-LREC"> <center> <div id="yom-ad-LREC-iframe" class="yom-ad"></div> </center> </div> <p><br></p> <p>By Steve Holland</p> <div class="body-slot-mod"> <div class="yom-remote"> <div class="yom-loading" id="mediacontentrelatedstory_container"></div> </div> </div> <p>WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Just a few short weeks ago, Republican elders could only hope that time would make voters forget about the government shutdown the party engineered in October.</p> <p>Now, with millions of Americans in an uproar over health insurance policies canceled because of President Barack Obama’s health care law, Republicans believe they could seize control of the Senate and build on their majority in the House of Representatives in the November 2014 congressional elections.</p> <p>Republican strategist Karl Rove, architect of George W. Bush’s two presidential victories, said Obamacare could hurt Democratic candidates more than in 2010.</p> <p>“In 2014, it’s likely to be a bigger, more obvious and equally deadly issue for Democrats, especially incumbent Democrats in red, even purple states and districts who voted for the monstrosity,” he told Reuters.</p> <p>Groups allied to Republicans are already running digital ads against vulnerable Democrats, with TV ads coming in the months ahead.</p> <p>“2014 will be a referendum on the failures of this administration,” said Representative Greg Walden, head of the House Republican campaign committee.</p> <p>Some in the party, however, are warning conservative Tea Party Republicans not to push the government into another shutdown or risk a debt default in upcoming budget talks, out of fear of voter backlash.</p> <p>“Republicans need to play it smart,” said Republican strategist Charlie Black. “We can shift the focus to our own vulnerabilities if we participated in another government shutdown or resisted extending the debt limit.”</p> <p>Democrats already would have to beat historical odds to pick up congressional seats next November, since the party that controls the White House usually loses seats in these so-called mid-term elections.</p> <p>The Democrats’ chances appear even worse when the president’s approval rating is below 50 percent, and a Quinnipiac University poll this week put Obama at 39 percent.</p> <p>Support for congressional Democrats has dropped nearly 4 percentage points from a month ago, when the government was shut down and the debt ceiling fight was unresolved, according to a compilation by website Real Clear Politics of so-called “generic” congressional race polls, which test voter preferences by party. Republicans’ support dropped 1 percentage point.</p> <p>Democrats control the 100-member Senate by a margin of 55-45, meaning a six-seat swing would tilt the chamber to Republicans. Of the 33 Senate seats that will be on the ballot next November, 20 are held by Democrats, and many of them are seen as vulnerable.</p> <p>Indeed, five Democrats who face voters in 2014 – Oregon’s Jeff Merkley, Louisiana’s Mary Landrieu, North Carolina’s Kay Hagan, Arkansas’ Mark Pryor and California’s Dianne Feinstein -were among the sponsors last week of a Senate bill designed to stem the wave of health insurance cancellations.</p> <p>Republicans control the House by 234 to 200, and could see their majority increased despite the lingering hangover from the Tea Party-backed shutdown in October that sent the approval rating of Congress down to historic lows.</p> <p>“Obamacare has essentially neutralized the Democrats’ momentum from the shutdown. It’s offset it,” said Dave Wasserman, a political analyst at the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.</p> <p>“All things being equal Republicans ought to be able to gain seats in 2014 because the composition of the electorate will be more favorable to Republicans,” he said. Lower turnout in non-presidential elections often favors the GOP.</p> <p>November 2014 is still a long way away, though.</p> <p>A repeat performance of the government shutdown this winter – when congress will confront new deadlines for raising the debt ceiling and funding the government – could turn the tables once again.</p> <p>So could a dramatic improvement in the implementation of Obamacare or a turnaround in the economy that speeds up growth and creates more jobs.</p> <p>INTERVENING EVENTS</p> <p>But Republicans see things playing out in their favor next year.</p> <p>Obama’s bid to persuade insurers to extend policies through 2014 for people whose insurance plans are being canceled means there could be a repeat of the current chaos just in time for the election.</p> <p>Americans could face a perfect storm, losing coverage, shopping for new plans or suffering sticker shock from higher premiums, all while deciding on who to vote for during the heat of the 2014 campaign season.</p> <p>Democrats dismiss such talk as political bravado and believe Obamacare could provide a net plus for Democratic candidates next November, assuming the troubled HealthCare.gov website is functioning smoothly.</p> <p>“They don’t want Obamacare to work,” said Democratic National Committee spokesman Mo Elleithee. “They are actually afraid of it working. Why? Because they know once people begin to enjoy the benefits that come with a better and more affordable healthcare system, they won’t want to give them up.”</p> <p>Still, even Obama sees the issue as a drag on Democrats who support his Affordable Care Act.</p> <p>“There is no doubt that our failure to roll out the ACA smoothly has put a burden on Democrats, whether they’re running or not, because they stood up and supported this effort through thick and thin,” he told a news conference on Thursday.</p> <p>He spoke just before 39 Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives joined with anti-Obamacare Republicans to pass a “fix” to the insurance cancellations that Obama said he would veto. Twenty-nine of the Democrats are in potentially competitive races in 2014.</p> <p>Obamacare woes are already hitting the re-election campaign of North Carolina’s Hagan, an Obamacare booster who had a big lead over her Republican challengers but has seen them draw nearly even with her. Andre Johnson and Matt Schaub had to be separated during Texans' loss

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><img src="http://images.ftw.usatoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Screen-Shot-2013-11-17-at-4.57.03-PM1.png" width="600"/><br /><p>In the latest edition of quarterback-receiver arguments on Texas-based NFL teams, embattled Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub was involved in a shouting match with All-Pro wide receiver Andre Johnson at the end of the team's 28-23 loss to the Oakland Raiders.</p><br /><p>The Texans had a third-and-1 from the Oakland two-yard-line with 1:28 remaining, but failed to get the go-ahead touchdown when Schaub missed Johnson, who was covered by multiple Raiders defenders, on a fourth-down throw into the end zone.</p><br /><p>When the offense came off the field, Schaub and Johnson were seen jawing at each other until people stepped in to separate the teammates. Johnson turned around and walked off the field while the Raiders were kneeling down to kill the clock.</p><br /><img src="http://images.ftw.usatoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/2013-11-1713_44_13.gif" width="600"/><br /><p>According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, Johnson was also seen getting frustrated with Schaub late in the fourth quarter when the QB didn't see him open in the secondary.</p><br /><p>Schaub, the Texans starter who was injured last month, replaced Sunday's starter Case Keenum late in the third quarter. These forecasts and warnings are issued by a third-party meteorological service specifically hired to monitor inclement weather that could affect an NFL game.</span></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-left: 60px;"><span style="font-size: 9pt;">— Weather-Related Delay: Once the Referee has made the decision to suspend play due to inclement weather, the NFL's Game Operations Command Center speaks directly to a meteorologist who can provide an estimated duration of the delay based on weather patterns. This delay estimate is then communicated to the highest ranking League Official, Officiating Observer, and/or directly to the Referee. These League representatives are then responsible for updating both teams. Throughout the delay, the NFL's Game Operations Command Center is constantly relaying forecast updates and delay estimations to the on-site League representatives. When appropriate, the home club is responsible for implementing procedures to address the safety of fans and employees in the stadium.</span></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-left: 60px;"><span style="font-size: 9pt;">— Resumption of Play: The Referee will determine when it is appropriate to resume play. In cases of lightning or other weather-related stoppages, the Referee is strongly encouraged, circumstances permitting, to consult with the highest ranking League Official in attendance, the NFL's Game Operations Command Center, and/or directly with a League-designated meteorologist before resuming play. Case Keenum had been impressive in his first two starts, throwing for 621 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. But after going 22-of-43 for 201 yards with 3 TDs and no picks against the Raiders, and with Houston trailing Oakland by 11 points in the third quarter, coach Gary Kubiak decided to turn to Schaub.</p><br /><p>Turns out, that was an awful idea.</p><br /><p>With the Texans trailing 28-23 and 1:15 left in the game, things came to a head when Schaub's fourth-down pass intended for Andre Johnson fell incomplete. <div id="yom-ad-LREC" class="yom-ad yom-ad-LREC"> <center> <div id="yom-ad-LREC-iframe" class="yom-ad"></div> </center> </div> <p><br></p> <p>By David Morgan and Deborah Zabarenko</p> <div class="body-slot-mod"> <div class="yom-remote"> <div class="yom-loading" id="mediacontentrelatedstory_container"></div> </div> </div> <p>WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The top Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives said on Sunday that her party would not abandon President Barack Obama’s landmark healthcare reform law, despite unrelenting Republican opposition and emerging signs of market turmoil for consumers and health insurers.</p> <p>Two days after 39 House Democrats joined Republicans on a bill aimed at undermining the law known as Obamacare, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi denied that Democrats have lost confidence in Obama’s ability to overcome a botched rollout of his signature domestic policy achievement.</p> <p>“There’s a lot of whoop-de-do and ado about what’s happening,” Pelosi told NBC’s “Meet the Press” program.</p> <p>“It doesn’t mean: Oh, it’s a political issue, so we’re going to run away from it. No. It’s too valuable for the American people,” she said, claiming similar numbers of Democratic lawmakers have joined Republicans on votes that challenged Obamacare in the past.</p> <p>“Democrats stand tall in support of the Affordable Care Act,” Pelosi said.</p> <p>Her comments come at a time of intensifying concern for Democrats, who face a tough midterm election fight or control of Congress in 2014.</p> <p>Democrats have been hit by a public backlash over millions of people who have had their policies canceled because the plans do not meet new consumer protections mandated by the law. The administration’s troubled enrollment Website, HealthCare.gov, also is still not working properly, more than six weeks after its launch.</p> <p>Friday’s Democratic support for a House Republican bill that would allow insurers to continue selling older policies could be a sign that the administration’s coalition in Congress could be fraying, according to analysts. Several Democrats have already produced similar legislation.</p> <p>Pressure from his Democratic Party prompted Obama to say last week that insurers could extend their existing policies for a year even if they don’t complying with the law.</p> <p>But that decision stirred objections from insurers and some state insurance regulators about higher costs for consumers and potential solvency threats for insurance companies.</p> <p>“What I really want to focus on is how do we address these reasonable problems. We have an interest in doing so, so … the markets don’t blow up,” Karen Ignagni, president and chief executive of America’s Health Insurance Plans, an industry trade group, told the “Fox News Sunday” program.</p> <p>She appeared with Ben Nelson, chief executive of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, which represents state regulators. He said states are worried that insurers could get saddled with unexpected losses as a result of the so-called Obamacare fix that extends non-compliant policies for a year.</p> <p>“They want to make certain that this doesn’t shift the cost to the point that insurers face and risk insolvency,” he said.</p> <p>MANDATE ON AMERICANS</p> <p>The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act mandates that most Americans be enrolled in health coverage by March 31 or face a penalty. But the administration has made only partial progress fixing technical glitches that have made HealthCare.gov inaccessible to consumers in the 36 states it serves as it approaches a key December 15 enrollment deadline to receive coverage beginning January 1.</p> <p>Pelosi acknowledged that HealthCare.gov will work well for only 80 percent of visitors by November 30, when officials have promised to have it operating smoothly for the vast majority of them. That could leave 1-in-5 potential enrollees mired in glitches during a brief two-week window before December 15.</p> <p>“That’s just by the end of this month. It’s not acceptable ongoing,” she said.</p> <p>Obama met with insurance executives on Friday at the White House for what was described as a “brainstorming” session about cancellation victims and the enrollment challenges. Both sides have since pledged to work together.</p> <p>The outward image of cooperation has done little to hide concerns. Insurers and regulators worry that cheaper plans with fewer protections and less-robust coverage will entice younger and healthier consumers to buy them, leaving Obamacare’s new online marketplaces with older, sicker beneficiaries who cost more to insure.</p> <p>The administration is looking at ways to insulate insurers from losses, though there has been no decision about what to do.</p> <p>“Under the rules of law of large numbers, which is what you get with actuarial science, the more people you have in the plan, generally the better the plan is. So excluding certain people from the plan creates certain issues,” Nelson said.</p> <p>Many U.S. states are hesitant to embrace Obama’s fix. California, Colorado, Florida, South Carolina and Ohio said they would act on it. Washington, Vermont and Rhode Island said they would not. It hasn't been a very long run and the transfer to London has meant a three week break while the complex stage design is relocated to the Barbican in London. The Warwickshire town was obviously much busier from much earlier on in the day and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre shop and foyer was rammed as friends met up with friends and people scrambled to buy from the range of Richard II merchandise. Crowds were building up outside too. An acquaintance who took a peek during the matinee interval informed us that the stage door barrier was already three deep. Fans who had already viewed the production assured first-timers how much they would love the show. Seasoned RSC and theatre supporters rubbed shoulders with people for whom this was their first foray into live Shakespeare. It has been a production that has drawn its audience widely.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This has been a critically acclaimed run, with many praising the simple yet effective set, the use of the theatre's depth, the live singers and musicians and, without a doubt, the consistently high quality performances by the whole company. The younger members of the cast have left us with a host of new names and faces to follow with the hope that they too will go on to great things. For David Tennant it has been a triumphant return to Stratford. The bold decision to wear extensions to realise Richard's ethereal, androgynous appearance may have got the gossip columns chattering but it certainly focused attention on something very special that was happening on that stage. The success of the live broadcast across the UK underscored that to the tune of the £1 million that was generated at the sold out cinema box offices. The production hit the right notes in so many ways and Gregory Doran has hit the ground running in his first full season as RSC Artistic Director.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The two final shows ran through smoothly and following both performances, David Tennant made an earnest appeal for donations to the Disasters Emergency Committee to support relief work following the horrific events in the Phillippines. Cast members manned buckets at the exit doors. The final curtain call was a mixture of elation and emotion. The audience sprang to their feet as the final spotlight faded, and the beaming, relieved, tired and happy faces of the whole cast, led by David Tennant said it all. A large bunch of apricot and lemon coloured roses landed with a thud at David's feet; he scooped them up and without hesitation presented them to Jane Lapotaire, who has made a triumphant return to the RSC following a lengthy serious illness. David thanked the audience and expressed how delighted they had all been with the successful run...and then they were gone, with just the final flourish by the trumpeteers to see the audience on their way.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A member of the theatre staff informed us that work would start the next day to strip out the <i>Richard II</i> set and to start to install the complex mechanics for <i>Wendy And Peter Pan</i>.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In three weeks time, the company will take to the stage of the Barbican in London. Until then we will simply have to be bereft of Richard, Bolingbroke, Old Gaunt, York, Northumberland, Harry Percy, Aumerle <i>et al. </i>In the meantime there are <a href="http://onscreen.rsc.org.uk/cinemas-and-tickets/">encore screenings</a> of the live broadcast to fill the void.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><i>Richard II </i>transfers to the Barbican in <st1:city w:st="on">London</st1:city> from 9th December till 25th January 2014. And though the hair-tackle has happened to guys like Troy Polamalu and Ricky Williams, it's hard to remember a player ever having his hair ripped out of his scalp by a defender. Andre Ellington was on the wrong side of history on Sunday.</p><br /><p>After a short Ellington run, Jacksonville Jaguars defender Jason Babin emerged from the pile holding strands of the back's dreadlocks. He held the hair aloft, then tossed it to the ground. Quinn: Facebook needs to open service to kids under 13

The once-rogue operation created by teenagers in a dorm still touts its rebel hacker culture, with messages scrawled on walls, all-night coding marathons and plenty of Red Bull. The average age of Facebook employees is reported to be 28.</p><br /><p>But those youth credentials don't matter anymore. The kids are flocking to other digital haunts. And investors are jittery. When Facebook's chief financial officer said recently that daily users, especially younger teens, had decreased in the quarter, the stock took a nose dive.</p><br /><p><img src="http://extras.mnginteractive.com/live/media/site568/2013/1115/20131115__116quinn~1_300.JPG" width="600"/> </p><br /><p>The company hasn't given up on the youth market. Far from it. It tried, and failed, to snap up Snapchat, the social media service, for $3 billion, according to reports last week. Last year, it plunked down $1 billion for Instagram, the mobile photo sharing application popular with teens. Facebook recently changed its privacy setting to expand the kinds of things 13-to-17-year-olds can do on the service.</p><br /><p>These are good moves. The company should grab anything digital that is taking off. But one thing it should do -- and fast -- is allow kids under 13 to join, and then figure out how to cater to them.</p><br /><p>Controversial, I know, but here's why it makes sense.</p><br /><p>Facebook has created something that Mark Zuckerberg, the company's chief executive, says has become such a part of our lives that it's like a utility. The service's popularity has become self-propelling. The more folks we know on Facebook, the more time we spend on it. It's the network effect swelling to take in the entire planet.</p><br /><p>But the digital tastemakers are young teens and tweens. Adolescents' social networks aren't on Facebook yet; they are still in the cafeteria and on the playground. Their digital identities are just forming. They text and Skype while they play online games and beg parents for access to smartphones and tablet computers to download apps and try out new ways of communicating. Lunchroom conversations are a mixture of real information and bluster about the pros and cons of things like Kik, WeChat, Tumblr, Snapchat and Instagram.</p><br /><p>This is where Facebook struggles.</p><br /><p>'Youth are not locked into any service and they can compare and contrast them,' said Zachary Reiss-Davis, an analyst at Forrester Research.</p><br /><p>Facebook could open up its current service to tweens with special features and privacy settings. Or it could create a new, stand-alone site, a Facebook Jr., that would be a place for the firm to test features and figure out this market. 'You have to get them on early and in the right way,' said Reiss-Davis.</p><br /><p>The service would need to be parent-controlled and ad-free. And it should offer something new and riveting to entice preteens.</p><br /><p>If kids could join Facebook, they 'may be more likely to stay on Facebook and utilize it,' said Stephen Balkam, chief executive of the Family Online Safety Institute, which counts the site among its members.</p><br /><p>Federal law creates more requirements for online firms to protect children's privacy, so most social networks simply prohibit children under 13.</p><br /><p>But of course the truth is many kids still do join, with or without their parents' knowledge. A 2012 Consumer Reports survey found 5.6 million kids under 13 were on Facebook, down from 7.5 million in the prior year.</p><br /><p>And critics of Facebook's current age limit argue there are already too many dangers. Opening it up to children, they say, exposes the most vulnerable in our society to one of the greatest personal data collection operation in history.</p><br /><p>But the current setup is far from ideal for kids' safety. Preteens who set up a Facebook account have to lie about their age. If they say they are 29, or 99, they receive the least restrictive privacy settings, which means they are potentially exposed to more dangers. It would be better for them to have a way to participate but with necessary, age-appropriate protections.</p><br /><p>And from a parent's point of view, I trust Facebook more than these fast-growing apps and features that haven't yet been raked over the coals by regulators and privacy advocates. With every privacy snafu, Facebook worries about losing users' trust and shareholder confidence. Those stakes make me feel better as a mother.</p><br /><p>Of course, inviting tweens to join also exposes Facebook to more risks, and it's not clear if doing so will increase its cool factor. 'Is that market worth the controversy,' wonders Scott Strawn, a program officer at IDC, the market research firm.</p><br /><p>I would say yes. Facebook shouldn't want to be prematurely middle-aged, shaking its head and muttering, 'Young people, what they do on the Internet, we don't understand it.'</p><br /><p>Open the door to kids, Facebook, and test as many features as you can that capture tweens' imagination. Look for what taps into their digital egos and pray for hockey-stick growth. It’s been hard for fans to let go of Walter White and his associates.</p> <p>But what if the ending had taken a very different direction? What if, as many close viewers of the show surely suspected, the whole saga of the chemistry-teacher-turned-druglord was all a dream in the sleeping mind of Hal, the hapless dad Bryan Cranston played on the Fox comedy <em>Malcolm in the Middle</em> from 2000 until 2006? An alternate ending to the series that was released this weekend shows Cranston and his <em>Malcolm</em> co-star Jane Kaczmarek playing out that scenario, in a nod to the finale of <em>Newhart</em>.</p> <p>Relive Walter White’s Lowest Lows on ‘Breaking Bad’</p> <p>“I just had the scariest dream!” Hal tells his wife, Lois, after waking up in terror. “I was this <em>meth dealer</em>. Nexus 5: the best

Photo: Google</p><br /><p>Google's Nexus 5 has nearly everything you would expect from a high-end smartphone - except the price.</p><br /><p>The thing is a bargain. At $399 for the 16-gigabyte model and $449 for the 32GB model, it is hundreds of dollars cheaper than similar phones.</p><br /><p>And people appear to have noticed.</p><br /><p>It sold out quickly after appearing on Google's online store a couple of weeks ago. Depending on the model, if you ordered one today it would be unlikely to reach you for weeks.</p><br /><p>But it's probably worth the wait.</p><br /><p>Nexus phones always have the advantage of premiering Google's latest Android operating system before other manufacturers get their hands on it and apply their tweaks.</p><br /><p>On the Nexus 5, the operating system is Android KitKat: smooth and intuitive, it is Android as Google intends. Apps open and operate fast.</p><br /><p>Google has also corrected the biggest issue with its predecessor, the Nexus 4, which was likewise manufactured by LG: the absence of 4G LTE capacity. The Nexus 5 is compatible with Australia's fastest mobile internet networks.</p><br /><p>The phone has a plain design with a soft-plastic back. The five-inch screen makes the most of the available space, meaning it is just about comfortable in average-size hands.</p><br /><p>The screen's resolution is impressive, with 445 pixels per inch (ppi). By comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has 441ppi and the iPhone 5S 326ppi, but at those levels any differences are negligible.</p><br /><p>Under the hood is a speedy quad-core 2.3 gigahertz Qualcomm processor. In comparison, the Nexus 4 boasted 1.5 gigahertz.</p><br /><p>But there are hardware compromises.</p><br /><p>Colours on the screen can be a little dull, and the eight-megapixel camera is adequate without being amazing.</p><br /><p>Photos are improved via the HDR+ feature, which captures a rapid burst of images and blends the best bits into a single shot. An image-stabilisation feature also cuts down on shake.</p><br /><p>The 2300-milliampere hour battery does the job but isn't spectacular. The phone's closest relative, LG's G2, manages to cram a 3000-milliampere hour battery into a similar frame.</p><br /><p>But then you come back to price. Outright 16GB versions of LG's G2 and Samsung's Galaxy S4 are about $250 and $300 more expensive, respectively. The iPhone 5S costs $470 more.</p><br /><p>For what you get, the Nexus 5 is the best-value smartphone out there.</p><br /><strong>AAP</strong></div>
