Lindsey Vonn on Friday officially withdrew from next week's World Cup ski races in Beaver Creek, Colo., but in a surprise, she left open the possibility that she would race the next week when the women's World Cup moves to the Lake Louise resort in Canada.

Vonn partially tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee in a crash during training Tuesday, nine months after having the same ligament surgically rebuilt after a violent fall in the world championships.

How much damage the most recent accident did to her knee has not been clear. She also had cuts on her face and a bruised shoulder blade.

'Lindsey is recovering very quickly from abrasions to her face and contusions to her shoulder blade,' Dr. William Sterett of the United States ski team said in a statement released Wednesday by Vonn's publicist. 'Beyond that, she has a stable knee with an M.R.I. finding of a partial tear of her A.C.L. graft. With therapy, she is progressing well while not losing any of the strength she worked so hard to achieve.'

The statement from the publicist Lewis Kay also read that Vonn would 'continue to do therapy with an eye at racing in Lake Louise.'

The Lake Louise races - two downhills and a super-G - are Dec. 6 to 8. Vonn won all three races last year and has 14 career victories at Lake Louise.
