Google Voice still doesn't support MMS natively, so the photos sent by friends and family of an infant relative or an item that they want to show before purchasing cannot be seen. Google today announced a workaround that makes it possible when messages are sent from T-Mobile customers.

Though the Google Voice app cannot display MMS, it can forward the photo to a Gmail account and then notify the user that the message can be viewed there. Sprint introduced similar functionality in 2010, and T-Mobile customers now have the same opportunity. To be clear, you do not need to be a T-Mobile customer to receive MMS forwarding with Google Voice. Anyone can access that feature; the only way for MMS to forward to Gmail properly is for the sender to be a T-Mobile or Sprint customer.

Google's Alex Wiesen states that the company hopes to standardize MMS by adding support through Hangouts, but this will be the way that it works in the meantime.
