(I’m looking at you, Magneto.) Coulson is no different, although his resurrection is a mystery that will unravel as the show’s mythos continues to evolve. At this year’s SXSW, Whedon teased fans about his secretive Lazarus pit, stating, “I’ll tell you guys this, Heimlich.”</div><div style="margin-bottom: 22px; margin-top: 16px;">Online speculation has dug deeper, of course. <a href="http://screenrant.com/agents-of-shield-tv-coulson-death-explained-spoilers/" style="color: #1b5288; text-decoration: none;">Screen Rant highlights one theory</a>, provided by their own Deep Throat-esque source, that suggests Coulson’s death was a cover up used to unite the Avengers. Easy Crockpot Chili Recipe

Anyhoo. This is my newest crockpot. Isn't she sexy and voluptuous?<br /><br />I call her, Samantha. Samantha came with a 2, 4, and 6 quart bowl. I always use the 4 quart bowl.  The 2 is too small, and the 6 quart bowl, I only use when cooking up meth, so it may have toxic residue in it.<br /><br />There you have it. experienced loss opening the way to new possibilities. I presented on how Latino ministries had sprung up in the wake of parish decline; and how something new seems to be taking shape since the greatly regretted loss of the regional vicars (ministry developers). Other presentations were from Julio Holguin of the Dominican Republic about the new sense of structure and formation there; Diane Jardine Bruce of Los Angeles about congregations dealing with ethnically changing neighborhoods by walking the neighborhood and making friends; Todd Ousley of Eastern Michigan about using new ministry models in the wake of declining population and employment; and Jeff Lee speaking of the merger of the Dioceses of Quincy and Chicago. It was all actually quite inspiring. I was particularly touched by Diane’s account of connecting with the neighborhood. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: 14.0pt;">We did plodding business in the afternoon, nothing anyone could get exercised about. Exposing the private companies behind the takeover of government

CMD has already done an invaluable service by exposing the corporate dating service for state lawmakers known as <a href="http://alecexposed.org/" rel="nofollow">ALEC</a> -- the American Legislative Exchange Council. Fifty corporations and nonprofits have dropped out of ALEC since CMD began its exposes.<br /><br />Their first target is the <a href="http://www.prwatch.org/node/12221" rel="nofollow">Sodexo Food Service</a> contractor, which siphons cash from kids and soldiers while dishing up scandal and subprime food.<br /><br />Sodexo was accused of overcharging 21 New York school districts and the State University of New York from 2004 to 2009. Since it was completed in 1972, this interstate that connects the coast of Virginia westward to the mountains has been used by millions of travelers. It's gentle grade and curves made crossing the Blue Ridge Mountains far easier and safer than in the past, and in good conditions it's a breeze to drive.<br /><br />That is, until bad weather hits, and one particularly nasty deterrent over the years has been fog that can be as thick as pea soup, literally limiting visibility to about as far as the front of your vehicle. With eyes squinting to see through the thick, opaque haze, it can make for a white-knuckle, heart-stopping drive as you go up against Mother Nature.<br /><br />And then there's the other drivers. That's where Russian roulette comes into play because some drivers feel completely safe continuing at the 65 mph posted speed limit even though they can't see beyond their noses. Others slow down ... but how much? Some almost stop while others feel safe at 55 or 45 or 35. That's a dangerous mix on foggy or wintry Afton.<br /><br />For years those living in the area have suggested that a variable speed limit would be helpful under such conditions. Improvements have been made as far as automatic fog lights that outline lanes making it easier not to drive over the side of the mountain, and electronic signs with messages warning of inclement conditions. But the speed limit issue was still there. And pileups still happened even with the improvements.<br /><br />Thankfully, according to the <a href="http://www.timesdispatch.com/news/state-regional/improvements-planned-for-i--over-afton-mountain/article_0e894fc3-9f94-5394-97bf-9b31ac75f5c4.html"><i>Richmond Times-Dispatch</i></a>, a new phase of improvements is going to be put in place and, included in Phase 2, will be the variable speed signs:<br /><blockquote>The variable speed limit would allow VDOT to not only detect inclement weather or changing traffic patterns but automatically alter the road’s legal speed limit to prepare drivers for the conditions.<br /><br />In Afton, Shiley said, “we looked at crash types, not just number of crashes, and it led us to this solution: We really need to have something to get motorists to slow down when we have fog conditions or winter weather conditions.”</blockquote>Afton is legendary for the pileups that have occurred over the years:<br /><blockquote>In April 1992, state police responded to a 60-car pileup that resulted in two fatalities. In April 1998, a 65-car pileup sent 40 people to area hospitals. Then, less than three weeks later, the road was the site of an 18-car collision. In all three incidents, police reported that fog was a major factor.</blockquote>The new improvements will be welcomed. Now if we could just get climbing lanes....

Forbes, Wittman, Rigell: 'Sequester impact on military a disgrace'

Randy Forbes, Rob Wittman, and Scott Rigell<br /><a href="http://www.dailypress.com/news/opinion/dp-nws-oped-congressmen-0922-20130921,0,2135044.story">The Daily Press</a><br /><br />If you were told that your son or daughter was going to fly on an airplane that had only 70 percent of its required maintenance, or whose pilot had trained for less hours than optimally required to maintain proficiency, would you allow him or her to get on the plane? Of course not. Yet thanks to sequestration, the U.S. military is facing a situation where our sons and daughters are being asked to do more with less training, less maintenance, and less modern platforms. Today, the military is experiencing the greatest readiness crisis since the Vietnam War. Should the president and Congress fail to find a solution to our nation's budget woes, readiness will likely degrade even further. Forced to find immediate savings, the services have curtailed training and deferred maintenance in ways that threaten to damage our national security for decades.<br /><br />Sequestration's roughly $500 billion in defense cuts over the next decade have come on top of the administration's already substantial reductions to national defense spending. Accordingly, the services have chosen to absorb the majority of these cuts by reducing their near-term readiness, which generally means less training for the men and women wearing our nation's uniform.<br /><br />For Army and Marine units, other than those scheduled for deployment to Afghanistan, this means substantially less time firing live ammunition and fewer opportunities to train with the vehicles they may eventually take into combat.<br /><br /><i>Read the rest of this article <a href="http://www.dailypress.com/news/opinion/dp-nws-oped-congressmen-0922-20130921,0,2135044.story">here</a>.</i>

I'mTired And Pissed Off

This seven day a week bullshit is getting old.<br />On top of that I spent ten and a half hours inside a confined space on my fucking knees last night with a restraint harness on stringing a whole shit ton of wires and my left foot is still numb on top.<br /><br />I'm fucking beat.<br /><br />Hopefully I will have next Saturday off.<br /><br />If nothing else I still have 3 floating holidays to burn and if worst comes to worst I'll use one of those.<br /><br />As for the pissed off part.<br /><br />As I was sitting here trying to wake up, all groggy as fuck, my wife tells me that the boy is having anger issues and that they got into it last night, again.<br /><br />He is fifteen and I remember those days.<br /><br />I took off from home at that age and never went back myself.<br /><br />They got into it about grades and of course being a growing male of that age, he is mouthy as all get out to her. The little fucker is smart enough to know better when I am around because I'll get his ass.<br />She escalated it and slugged him on the arm so he went ballistic and punched the window over the sink that hangs out, kinda like a mini green house. I forget what they call those things.<br />Anyways, he busted the inner window and of course, cut the shit out of his hand.<br /><br />Dumbass.<br /><br /><br />I just got off the phone to the glass place and they will be out tomorrow, to the tune of about $250.<br /><br />You can rest assured that the lad and I are going to have a short conversation.<br /><br />A very short, one sided conversation.<br /><br />If he pulls his lippy fucking shit on me I might end up calling a drywall guy too.<br /><br />Sigh.<br /><br />They say there is no rest for the wicked and I certainly have earned my share but I am starting to wonder if I wasn't Genghis Kahn in a previous life.<br /><br /><br /><br />

Exhibiting architecture, like making books on architecture, is ripe for questioning, as the communication of images and writings on architecture is increasingly spread digitally. But, like books, exhibitions aren't going away any time soon, because even as both suffer from the difficult task of trying to explain something large (a building, a landscape, a city) on a much smaller canvas, exhibitions offer a social aspect—bringing people together into one place—that keeps them popular.<br /><br />One of the institutions that participated in the piece, Boston's <a href="http://www.pinkcomma.com/">pinkcomma</a>, is an independent gallery that started as an extension of the architecture office <a href="http://www.overcommaunder.com/">over,under</a>. The trio of Grimley, Kubo, and Pasnik wanted to, per the eMagazine article, fill a void in the city "between the critical exhibitions at universities—which were rarely focused on Boston—and the marketing-oriented displays produced by the professional organizations that were meant to engage the local community." Their creation of the Design Biennial Boston (DBB) in 2008, which included <a href="http://www.pinkcomma.com/young-architects-boston/">an exhibition at pinkcomma of ten emerging local designers</a>, is an important part of a goal that responds to the strong institutions in and around the city (Harvard and MIT, to name just two) and how the people attending them are transient and have a focus elsewhere. The gallery and biennial put the focus on the local, something that may seem counterintuitive these days.<br /><br /><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXIMzr7xvvm2n3n-mFbk42AIA_gHxvvAqLPHIFFoclVs854tjw7GLLvKZzwhCcv8HUkWHX75GX9WOnVMB8GwaZ8_fX6tJqBJZ6fePcqRRYeVAtwNxrt3PVakyV2EV9-aY1Y_3EK9jnr7yv/s1600/50.jpg" /><br /><br />In 2012 the DBB moved to the newly opened <a href="http://www.world-architects.com/en/projects/project-current-review/35897_bsa_space">BSA Space</a>, a gallery component of the Boston Society of Architects, displaying all 19 winners from the first three biennials (photo above). Additionally, four of the winners created installations for the gallery, each one reflecting one of the four themes set up by the curators: culture, material, discipline, type. These themes are used to categorize the 57 projects (3 from each designer) that were displayed in the exhibition and are found in the pages of the companion book. The themes, like the "survey" portion of the book, enable cross references between the projects; this is fitting given the emphasis on creating an "archive" (of the exhibition's and book's title) of the designers and the projects that represent them.<br /><br />The survey (photo below) does a decent job of contextualizing the DBB designers, showing where they work, where they teach, where their projects are, how much money they make, what software they use, how they get work, and so forth. The charts use a consistent format of white circles on black backgrounds; the more concentric circles, the more the designers have in common. One or two are unreadable (it's hard to tell at what schools the principals teach, for example), but overall they do a good job of straddling universal/global characteristics with local concerns. The latter make up much of the project archive—considering that just over half of the projects are in Massachusetts—but the local is also addressed in the "observations" section at the front of the book, which includes essays by the curators and a few academics.<br /><br /><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGzp3cXunKxOGH1iS7FHPDYHGHjA3vwti5DcTE8g9pL-dGWfQAJ9u4yp56dVIcUQA3RmluqxMyvCOcVJQhkP_HkG1a_R0rqDQ_aPjXEQLO0dNDvrsrVKjGxZXhaqFQ63mHJsFnfN99c2qa/s1600/48.jpg" /><br /><br />Like many exhibitions and books on architecture, the emphasis of <i>Archive</i> is on the projects. Short and sweet (one spread per project), the projects assembled here convey the quality output in Boston really well. Outside of the four themes it's difficult to find consistent threads among the projects; there is too much diversity to further partition them. One thing I found myself doing was focusing on the projects for Boston, especially those that attempt to reshape the public realm: C&MP's Coming Soon, a conceptual provocation for a downtown site; Touloukian Touloukian's Riverside Park Pavilion; and all of Utile's projects; to name just a few. Rural residents raise hell at Moral Monday protest
