Another Double Dose of Darci’s Days!!

<p>Do you like all those D’s in my title?!?!? :P</p> <p>Well I had great intentions of blogging Thursday night, but just didn’t happen!! Too much going on in this house and neighborhood!!</p> <p>Well I thought after I posted Wednesday night we were in for the night, but NOPE! I got a text from a friend/neighbor and so I went over and had a few beers and I didn't get home till after 1am...too late for this girl who has to be to work at 8am!! But hey, it was fun and I met some new people in the area. We were talking about having a block party...I think it would be so fun...hire a band, block off the street, good food, drinks, fun....doesn't that sound like fun?!?!? Hopefully we can pull it off this summer!! </p> <p>I was about 5 minutes late to work 'cause I didn't roll outta bed until 7:30am!! Yikes!! Once getting to my office and settled in I ate the last of that wonderful <strong>watermelon</strong> (<strong>1 point</strong>)you've been seeing all week. To be honest, I'm so sad that it's gone. I was so HAPPY to see that!! That means only 2.5 more pounds until I am where I "think" I want to be!! </p> <p>What I am concerned about though is my goal for WW is much higher...161, what are they going to say to me when I keep losing and I'm not maintaining. Maybe I should just suck it up and pay longer to have my goal where I "truly" want to be...idk. Any thoughts and/or experience on this would be great!! It was just really be nice to not have to pay that $40/month. Heck that could go towards new clothes because as of late some of my things are looking a little ridiculous...aka belt tightened so much on my capris/pants that they are all gathered at the top, but I guess it works! </p> <p>Ok back to my eats for the day! Later on in the morning I had the 2nd 1/3 of my breakfast, a <strong>Dole fruit gel cup</strong> for <strong>1 point</strong>. I know a few of you have asked how I have made my chicken salad so here it goes! Keep in mind I'm a pretty simple eater, don't really like some of those crunchy things people tend to add to chicken or tuna salad sandwiches! And I really thought I was too! But man was it hard! We went 4 miles and those grapes were bothering me the whole time…I really thought they were going to come back up…luckily they didn’t! And we finished our run in under 40 minutes…even though it was really hard and I wanted to quit most of the time. I’m so glad for Kyle, if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t have made it for sure!</p> <p>And now this is where it all goes down hill! We got back from our run and everyone was at the neighbor’s house and so of course I had to have a <strong>few beers</strong> with everyone…which turned into quite a few beers and a <strong>Wendys 5 piece chicken nugget with BBQ</strong> and didn’t end up getting home till after 2am!! It was a fun  night though!! Hey you gotta have fun sometimes right…?!!?! Point wise…not even sure!</p> <p>But I did see this on the scale this morning and about passed out. I thought for sure I would gain after those drinks and eats last night, but nope…went down another 1.5lbs!! Summer Education Opportunities--Keep those Kids Outside!

Hey folks!<br /><br /><br />I hope everyone is ready to jump into summer! My daughter turns 6 months old this weekend and her daycare asked if I had a swimsuit to bring so she could enjoy the kiddie pool! I can't believe it! I think I've mentioned this before, but one of the reasons I love her daycare is because they take the kids outside ALL THE TIME! As long as it's not raining, they go out. <br /><br />If you're looking for things to do with kids this summer, here are a few suggestions:<br /><ul><li>Look to your local, county and state parks. Many, if not most, offer summer day camps for weeks at a time. It's a great way to keep your kids occupied and out from in front of the computer or television. And many of them are wildlife-themed, which obviously we encourage. :-) </li><li>You can also check out your local zoos. All of the 5 Ohio zoos have summer camps for kids of all ages.</li><li>Check out your local arboretums, plant conservatories, and science museums for similar offerings.</li><li>Setting up play areas in your backyard where your kids can dig, plant, and dig some more can go a long way towards keeping them occupied and interested in the outdoors. Allowing them to build forts and tree houses, supervised of course, gives kids a place to hang out in nature on their own.</li><li>Helping them create a nature journal by taking a few pieces of paper, folding them in half and wrapping a string through the middle for binding, is an easy way to give them a creative outlet for writing and drawing outside. And best of all, they don't have to worry about it being graded!</li><li>Using a similar technique as the above journal, have your kids make a backyard field guide of all the plants and animals they find, either by drawing or collecting plants and drawing animals or signs of animals that they might find. You all might be surprised by what lives there. If you need help identifying some of the critters, check out the A to Z Species Guide on our <a href="http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/Home/species_a_to_z/speciesguide_default/tabid/6491/Default.aspx">Web site</a>.</li><li>Camping in the backyard is a great experience for kids. All you need is a small, inexpensive tent, a pillow and some blankets, and a flash light and you've got the makings of an outdoor adventure. Hearing the sounds of the backyard at night opens up a whole new world to kids. If you're really adventurous, you can invite the neighborhood kids and have a big group camp out.</li><li>Fishing is an excellent way for kids to explore the outdoors. And it's free for kids under 16. Depending on the age of the child, plan on having other things to do if the fish aren't biting. Bring along some collecting boxes and small nets for insect collecting. Check out our <a href="http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/Home/FishingSubhomePage/tabid/6518/Default.aspx">Web site</a> for good places to fish near you.</li></ul><p>Outdoor exploration opportunities are endless in the summertime! One of the guys had his little 11 month old boy with him. So that was super fun to play with him. I didn’t get home till after 6. But Kyle was ready to run right away so I changed and we got going. We took a new route tonight and I felt <strong>great</strong> during the whole run. We didn’t know the distance, but we did know that it was further than we normally run. When we got home we mapped it out on <a href="http://www.mapmyrun.com/">mapmyrun.com</a> (my new favorite website!!) and it was <strong>5.75 miles</strong>!! We were so proud of ourselves. We did it in about<strong> 56 minutes</strong>. And that is with 2, 1 minute walk breaks. </p> <p>When we got back to our yard our neighbor was out so we stopped over and talked to him for a bit and I had a nice cold <strong>Bud Light</strong> for <strong>2 points</strong>. I had no idea it was taste so good after running…but it SURE did!!</p> <p>After our long run we were ready to re-fuel. So we headed inside and I was <strong>craving fruit</strong>! Love that!! Holy Spirit Gets Hate Mail For Pentecost

The Church of the Holy Spirit in Bullhead City is a lovely small congregation in a town that is largely a retirement community. The congregation is primarily senior citizens. They are not the sort to march for liberal causes.<br /><br />But just before Pentcost, they recieved a handwritten note threatening to burn their church because we are a gay inclusive denomination. I am not sure whether I am speechless at the absurdity of evil or whether the response to this sensless venom is too obvious.<br /><br />One think I hope it will clarify for us as a diocese and a denomination is that we are in fact a family. What we do affects each other. That's why we must support each other, consider each other, and appreciate each other.

Monday…Ugh!

<p>So I started out this morning feeling great! I had such a positive attitude, ready for work…but that quickly changed. There are some changes going on at work that I am not to fond of…we’ll just leave it at that for now. Hopefully in the end things will work out good! </p> <p>Breakfast this morning was some delish <strong>seedless</strong> <strong>watermelon</strong> (<strong>1 point</strong>) Kyle & I picked up while grocery shopping yesterday. Mmmm!! He was already in his running clothes stretching out!! So I quickly changed and we hit the pavement for<strong> 4 mile run</strong>. It took us about <strong>35 minutes</strong> and felt <strong>great</strong>. But boy when we finished my legs got super tight really fast! Any advice on that or why it happened? Catholicity & Apostolicity In Las Vegas

Most people in Las Vegas are new here and don’t know how long they are going to say. But there is a special breed of veteran Vegasites. They have been here for decades and measure their seniority by how close to downtown they can name a street that was still unpaved when they moved here. 30, 40, or 50 years ago is current events back East, but in Nevada, that’s history – especially in a place that has changed so much so fast as Las Vegas. Watching half a century of history unfold anywhere has to lend some perspective. But watching the cultural seismic shift that has rocked Las Vegas – population c. 200 around the year 1905 – means nothing surprises this bunch. Yes, the veteran Vegasites are their own special breed of urban sage.<br /><br />So why am I going on about this rare breed of Western savant? Because the Saturday evening Eucharist at All Saints is heavily populated with Veteran Vegasites. (I don’t know if they would like this title. “Vegas” to a “local” does not mean the City of Las Vegas. It means “the Strip” about which the “locals” are ambivalent. When a local means Las Vegas, we say “Las Vegas.”) In any event, it was my privilege last Saturday to worship with the VV’s of All Saints – a wise and clever crowd with a good sense of humor.<br /><br />Then next morning, the 8:00 a.m. Eucharist was not the norm. It had about 50 people belting out hymns accompanied by Fr. Bede on the organ. Afterward, Linda and I joined the rowdy back row crowd for their weekly breakfast at the Sunshine Café down the street. The early Sunday service was a bit more ethnically mixed than the Saturday group.<br /><br />Then came the energetic larger service (c. 140 people – note: put the past 3 services together and we have well surpassed the 1905 population of the whole city) where we baptized one adult and two little girls. This group was more ethnically mixed than the congregation at 8:00.<br /><br />You might expect things to slow down in the summer afternoon. But quite the opposite. The congregation of Todos Los Santos brought in another 190 people. We confirmed 20 youth and celebrated first communion for numerous children dressed in white, carrying candles, rosaries, and other holy objects. They politely endured my massacre of their language at the Mass. The music was lively to say the least. The congregation worshiped with the most joyful exuberance I have seen in quite some time.<br /><br />But wait there’s more. In the late afternoon, the Holy Child Filipino congregation – 30 of them -- gathered for a charismatic style service with a praise band you wouldn’t believe – piano, drums, two guitars, tambourines, and brilliant vocalists. Lay leadership was front and center for this service. And afterward, we enjoyed a delicious repast of Filipino cuisine.<br /><br />Now you may assume things were over, and for me they were. I am not as young as I used to be. At this point, I was just plumb worshiped out and went home. But no it wasn’t over at All Saints. The next Spanish Language Mass was about to begin at 6:00 p.m. while I loaded up my vestments and other ecclesiastical paraphernalia and “homeward trod my weary way.” But it was one amazing day!<br /><br />The church is one, holy, catholic, and apostolic. The catholicity (universality) depends on diversity. That’s what All Saints does in this diocese. Thanks be to God. The apostolicity depends on our faithfulness to the apostolic mission of sharing Christ’s love with the world. That is what All Saints is doing by reaching out to newcomers in Las Vegas while keeping faith with those who have sustained this church so long.
