Changing Things Up: Drinking More Water + Food Finds

Zum Zeitpunkt des Verkaufes von Austrian Airlines hatte Air France noch die nötigen finanziellen Mittel Austrian zu kaufen. Im Gegensatz zur Lufthansa, welche München als Drehscheibe aufbaute, hätte Air France Wien als „Gateway“ in den Osten ausgebaut und somit eine legitime Konkurrenz zur Lufthansa gebildet. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span lang="DE-AT" style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: DE-AT;">“Unfit to Fly” ist seit einigen Tagen in aller Munde. Hintergrund dafür sind die Flugstreichungen der heimischen Fluglinie Austrian, die sich nicht zu schade war, die Gründe dafür offen zu kommunizieren.<br /><br />Was hat es damit auf sich? Was bedeutet “unfit to fly”?<br /><br />Auf keinen Fall sollte man diesen Zustand mit Krankheit, Krankenstand oder ähnlichem verwecheln. Nicht fit sein fürs Fliegen kann mannigfaltige Gründe haben. Psychischer Schmerz, wie etwa bei einer Trennung, Geldsorgen, verstorbene Verwandte oder Kinder - all das belastet ein Gemüt. In der Fliegerei kam man zu dem Konsens, dass ein derartiger Animus in keinem Fall für eine professionelle Arbeit in einem Cockpit zuträglich sein kann. Nicht zu unrecht, hat man sich doch Tag für Tag auf essentiell wichtige Entscheidungen zu konzentrieren - Ablenkung und ein getrübter Geist können schnell in einer Tragödie enden. Piloten und Fluglotsen wird geraten, selbst nach einem heftigen Streit mit der Partnerin / dem Partner, der Arbeit fern zu bleiben. Auch ich bin Pilot, und kenne keinen Crewplaner, der dafür kein Verständis hat.<br /><br />Dass das Otto Normalverbraucher verwundert, sei natürlich nicht unerwähnt. In den meisten Branchen wäre ein Anruf, nicht zur Arbeit zu kommen, weil man gerade mit der Freundin eine kräftige Auseinandersetzung hatte, vermutlich ein Entlassungsgrund.<br /><br />In sicherheitssensiblen Berufen, wie dem eines Piloten oder Fluglotsen, hat jedoch das Sicherheitsbewusstsein Vorrang. “Troubled Minds” oder unfitte Flugbesatzungen riskieren selten nur das eigene Leben.<br /><br />Zurück zur Austrian - zurück zu einem Berufsstand, der in der Öffentlichkeit keine Lobby zu besitzen scheint. Dieses österreichische Unternehmen, seit mehr als 50 Jahren am Markt, ist zur Zeit von der schlimmsten Krise seit ihrem Bestehen gebeutelt. Das Fass ist voll - und wie lange die Tropfen sich hier schon versammeln, sollte sich ein jeder, der im Moment glaubt eine Ahnung von Anstrengung und Entbehrung zu haben, vor Augen führen.<br /><br />Missführung, Missmanagement und Proporz haben den Karren an die Wand gefahren. Ein Merger 2004, ein Manager (“Die AUA ist saniert!”) nach dem anderen, der an der Aktiengesellschaft zwar gut verdient aber letztendlich doch nichts geleistet hat, Sparpakete, Zwangsteilzeit, Gehaltskürzungen, die Übernahme durch die Deutsche Lufthansa und, finally, Existenz- und Zukunftsängste. Wie viel hier durchgemacht wurde, kann sich der durchschnittliche österreichische Arbeitnehmer wohl schwer vorstellen. Es ist für jemanden der selbst fliegt daher überhaupt nicht verwunderlich, dass es einigen Leuten zu viel wird. Und dass Konsequenzen gezogen werden müssen. Die Umwälzungen, die in diesem Betrieb stattfinden, würden keinen österreichischen Arbeitnehmer, sofern betroffen, einfach kalt lassen.<br /><br />Nun ist es fünf nach zwölf - die Zeit für unpopuläre Maßnahmen scheint gekommen zu sein. In bester AUA-Manier wird das Versagen anderer auf dem Sündenbock Personal abgewälzt. Privilegienritter sollen die Piloten der AUA sein. Und Millionäre. Sie allein stehen der Firma und dem ewigen Glück und Wohlstand im Weg.<br /><br />Dass hier ein Berufsstand seit Jahren vorgeführt und zur Kasse gebeten wird, ist den meisten nicht bewusst, und, selbst nach Erklärung, nicht begreiflich. Warum ist das so?<br /><br />Warum wälzt ein Unternehmen, die Misstände, die durch offensichtliches, jahrzehntelanges Versagen in den oberen Managementebenen verursacht wurden, nun auf einem Berufsstand ab?<br /><br />Weil es so einfach ist! Es ist herrlich einfach, Neid und Missgunst zu schüren. Es ist herrlich einfach, auf eine Berufsgruppe hinzuhauen, die in der Öffentlichkeit nur mehr bedingtes Ansehen genießt. Die Geschäftsführung lässt es bei keiner Gelegenheit aus, die eigene Mannschaft vorzuführen und in Misskredit zu bringen. Der Facebook-Auftritt der AUA, wo die Flugverspätungen ganz offen auf das fliegende Personal abgewälzt werden, spricht Bände.<br /><br />Ich habe noch keinen Flugbetrieb erlebt, der so offen seine Mitarbeiter ankreidet. Wenn ich mich heute unfit melde, so springt ein Stand-by (so heißen die Piloten auf Bereitschaft) für mich ein. Werden nicht genug vorgehalten (die Stand-bys also), so muss der Flug abgesagt werden.<br /><br />So what? Liegt das im Verantwortungsbereich der Piloten und Flugbegleiter? Sicherlich nicht! Es ist im Interesse der Geschäftsführung genug Personal zur Verfügung zu stellen, damit ein vernünftiger Crewfaktor freie Tage und Krankenstände abfedern kann. Dass sich diese Annahme nicht mit der Aussage “Wir haben sowieso zu viele Piloten!” verträgt, sei mal so in den Raum gestellt.<br /><br />Hier ist die Personalvertretung gefordert. Zeigen Sie der Öffentlichkeit auf, was hier im Gange ist! Listen Sie auf, transparent und nachvollziehbar, was das Personal für den Fortbestand dieses Unternehmens seit Jahren auf sich genommen hat! Zeigen Sie auf, wie mit Ihnen umgegangen wird, was der/die Einzelne Ihrer Geschäftsführung wert ist! Zeigen Sie, dass SIE das Unternehmen sind, dass SIE der einzige Grund sind, warum dieses Unternehmen einen Herrn Ötsch, ein Duo Bierwirth & Malanik und Konsorten überlebt haben.<br /><br />Ich bin mir sicher, Kollegen, dass Ihr die Lacher, und vor allem die Solidarität der Kunden wieder auf eurer Seite haben werdet. </span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Meine habt ihr bereits jetzt.</span></div>

Hello blog friends!<br /><br />I figured it is finally time to give ya’ll {I’m not southern, but I just like to say ya’ll} an update and a few facts as to what I’ve been up to!<br /><ul><li>I’ve been back to my week Weight Watcher meetings since April 26th</li><li>In two weeks I’ve lost 2lbs.</li><li>Over the past 2 weeks I have tracked <strong><u>EVERYTHING</u></strong></li><li>I have not exercised…</li><li>Until 2 days ago, I joined a lunch hour class at work and got my butt kicked {in a good way}</li><li>I took my measurements the 1st of the this month. The number on the scale is just that…a number.</li><li>Hoping for another good loss this Thursday at WW!</li></ul>Adelyn’s 1st birthday isn’t too far away and I want to be as close to my pre baby weight as I can. I’m 12.8 lbs from my pre baby weight and it’s a little less than 6 weeks from today. I AM COMMITTED!!! I WILL DO THIS!<br /><br />I started to get down on myself that I’ve taken a whole year to lose my baby weight, but that does<u> no good</u> for me. This is my journey, everything has led up to this point, I can’t change the past, the future is mine! Look out blog friends this Mama is getting down to business!<br /><br /><div align="left">And just so I don’t have a picture-less post here are a pair of goal pants. Unrelated to the topic of the meeting, one person asked me, “Is it true you have closed our church in Tonopah?” I truly am not telling this story to vent (well not just to vent), but to teach a point I hope will be helpful in our congregations.</span></div><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-tab-count: 1;">               </span>“No,” I said. “I did not close our church in Tonopah.” I went on to explain that St. Mark’s has for several years had an Average Sunday Attendance of 2, that there are a 4 people who attend on occasion – 2 of them actually keep the church running. Those 2, the doers, have moved to Henderson. Before moving, they called a congregational meeting to ask the other members to take over. The other members declined. I am doing my level best to recruit a priest from out of state to move to Tonopah to revitalize our work there.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>As I understand Episcopal polity, bishops do not close churches. What happens in Tonopah is up to the Standing Committee, but we are doing our best for the mission in Central Nevada. I am quite hopeful we will see new life in coming months.</span><br /> <br /><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-tab-count: 1;">                </span>I explained all this, but the person who rightly asked the question, told me that the word on the street is “The bishop closed Tonopah.” And it was fairly clear, after my explanation, that others on the Committee still suspected I was somehow behind the closing of that congregation. They had heard it on the street, in the pews, the sacristy, or the parish parking lot. Where there is smoke, there is fire, right? And so the suspicion will be a little bit greater among small rural churches that the bishop wants to close them because they are small and rural. There is also a suspicion among large urban churches that I want to close them because they are large and urban – but that’s another story. </span></div><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-tab-count: 1;">                </span>Moral: rumors undermine the church. In this case, small congregations are made to feel threatened and devalued. Suspicions of conspiracy spread. Trust is eroded. Some people don’t trust me because they think I am a church killer; I don’t trust some people because they <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">may</i> be the ones spreading the rumors. Since I don’t know who is actually saying these things, I am apt to suspect people who are perfectly innocent. A little chunk of ice is thereby dropped into our relationship. The few spreading the rumor understand each other to be the good guys sitting in judgment on the bad guy or bad guys. And so the church is divided between the ostensibly good and the ostensibly evil. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The opportunity to join in such rumor-mongering is enticing. It has an energy to it almost as delicious as scandal.</span><br /> <br /><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-tab-count: 1;">                </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I tell my own story because I know it best and am free to relate it in more detail without compromising anyone else. But I am not a special target. This is how we often treat each other. I once met with a church group that was uniformly angry at a particular person. They were mostly angry about things <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">they had heard </i>he said or did. As to most of the allegations, I had no personal knowledge of what actually happened. But as to those events I did know about, the version of facts the group was angry about differed significantly from what the eye witnesses had told me. In a few cases, the group was in sync with the version of the story told by one person but not by the other. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Ultimately, the facts did not matter as much as the story that was told. The version people repeat and the version people choose to believe has the power to build up the community or to tear it down.</span><br /> <br /><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-tab-count: 1;">                </span>I cannot count how many people I have known who were driven out of churches by gossip. The congregation almost always loses the person who is the target of the gossip and it usually loses a few more as collateral damage. Gossip is an effective way to keep the church small – and yes there are those in almost every congregation<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>who like to keep the group small enough to be cozy, and in some cases, small enough they can control it. The agenda (usually unconscious) to drive people out and disrupt community is, in my experience, the most common reason people <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">start</i> negative rumors. Sometimes those motives cause people to <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">repeat </i>them – but more often, the <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">repeaters and spreaders</i> of rumors are even more unconscious. They are caught up in the energy of being in the know and letting others in on the secret. Such sharing creates a pathological but seductive intimacy. “How beautiful upon the mountain are feet of the bearers of good news” (Isaiah 52: 7) but “popular in the valley are the faces of the bearers of bad news and dark acts.”</span></div><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-tab-count: 1;">                </span>So what to do about it all? If one is inclined to start or spread destructive rumors in the church, it would be better for that person’s emotional and spiritual health that they hit the pause button to check their motives. The problem James cites with rumor-mongers is that they “deceive their own hearts.” If one really wants to split a community, undermine a spiritual leader, cast the church in a bad light, then they should fire away, take their best shot – but do it consciously, with intentionality. Another option would be to look back to the source of their anger, find what is really bothering them, and go to the person who has offended them and look for some resolution. By the grace of God, that is possible. I have seen it happen.</span><br /> <br /><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-tab-count: 1;">                </span>And when we hear the rumor, what then? The member of the Ministry Development Committee did a very healthy thing. First, she checked the facts. Second, she let the person targeted by the rumor know what is being said and give him (me) a chance to respond. The Farmington Libraries are seeking a part time Lending Services assistant to work at the Lending Desk at the Main Library. The successful candidate will assist in setting up the desk, charging and discharging materials, conduct financial transactions, answer the telephone and enter customer data . He/she will also assist in preparing circulation notices and maintaining the hold shelf. Strong customer service skills and a positive attitude are essential for this position. Education and experience required include: High school diploma. Library experience preferred. This year round 15 hour position will include evenings and week-ends on a rotating basis. There are no benefits with the exception of Social Security. Hourly rate: $16.00/hour. I was lucky enough to win a design consult with the lovely Jessie at <a href="http://www.mixandchic.com/" target="_blank">Mix and Chic</a> and we have been working on our family room/playroom. She has come up with some really great ideas and I can't wait to start working on the space, but it has brought up an ongoing discussion in our house.<div><br /></div><div>Sectionals.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />The hubs and I like our couch time. We log many hours on that sucker (isn't it our duty as Americans?) and we require comfort.<br /><br />Our first couch, god rest its soul, was the single greatest couch created. We scored it at a consignment shop when we got our first apartment and that thing was sent straight from heaven. Perfect for napping, spooning (TMI?) and plenty of room to seat an army. It wasn't a sectional but was the size of a barge. And it made it thru three apartments before it just got too big and too beat up to drag along any longer. Insert lone tear here.<br /><br />So when we moved into our current we got a new couch for the family room and 5 1/2 years later the thing is beat up, full of saggy cushions and frankly, not that comfortable. So the sectional debate begins again.<br /><br />For whatever reason, when I thought of sectionals, I always thought of those bad 80'couches that take up a whole room with bad burgundy fabric and overstuffed head cushions and la-z-boys at the end.<br /><br />But, sectionals have come a long way baby. I think I am in love.
