It Is Too Soon for a Charmed Reboot

<div class="MsoNormal">I know what you’re thinking, original ideas are scare in Hollywood.  With Batman, Superman, Star Wars, and a bevy of sequels hitting theaters every year, the quest for new material seems a little fruitless.  Hot on the news of the <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2478390/90s-series-Charmed-reboot.html">once beloved WB show</a> “Charmed” getting a reboot, it seems that a few folks agree with me.<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">According to Yahoo! TV Alyssa Milano and Rose McGowan, stars in the original show, have publicly via Twitter, <a href="http://tv.yahoo.com/blogs/tv-news/charmed--reboot-is-a-bad-idea--say-the-stars-of--charmed--231806433.html">come out to criticize</a> the potential reboot of the series about three witches with the power to vanquish evil doers.  (Okay, that over-simplifies the show, but it’s a basic idea).<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Sure you could argue that girls kicking butt could be traced back to “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” (Yes, Buffy was movie that inspired the television series first) or even Emma Peel way back in the original “The Avengers” in the 1960s, and that “Charmed” was just the next logical step.  However, the shows were unique premises, and not simply the same story redone in a different manner. <o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Still, it seems that many television shows are misses rather than hits.  However, retooling ideas can sometimes produce interesting results.  This year’s “Sleepy Hollow” takes cues from a really old Washington Irving tale, and “Castle” and “Bones” have a whole lot in common, but the departures and differences keep each show unique.<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">The point is, taking inspiration and creative liberties is one thing, and outright duplicating an idea is something else.  “Charmed” has only been off the air since 2006, and while seven or eight years is an eternity in the television landscape (seems like many shows are lucky to last three or four), the series is probably too fresh in the minds of fans (isn’t it still on somewhere in syndication?) to be recast, rebooted, and remade.<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><br /><div class="MsoNormal">Why not give Joss Wedon a call and see if he has any new ideas for “Firefly” and leave the original cast out in the cold?  I’m sure nobody on the Internet would have a problem with that.  [sarcasm]  And that was what a decade ago??<o:p></o:p></div>

House - Leeson Street

To start the Bank Holiday we went for a cocktail on Friday evening in the newly opened "House" on Leeson Street. <div><br></div><div>Upon entering we were greeted in a friendly manner and assisted with being seated.  Many tables were reserved so we sat at the bar in the main area.  We then decided to move further in to the venue and sat at the bar in the marquee/greenhouse area out back.</div><div><br></div><div>We ordered cocktails that were not in menu. I had a Grey Goose Caipirosca and Ciaran had an Old Fashioned. Today and tomorrow will be a step back in temperature before we warm on Thursday out ahead of a storm system. <br /><br />In terms of overall weather today, it will be a pretty nice day but one that features a mix of clouds and sun overall. A mix of stratus (morning hours) and mid and high level clouds (afternoon) will keep us from being fully bright and blue in the sky cover department, although there could be some sunnier periods in the course of the day. With north and northeast breezes nudging through the region over the course of the day, temperatures will be a few degrees cooler for highs today.<br /><br />Expect mid (north) and upper (everywhere else) 50's for highs this afternoon.
