Our shady paradise was threatening to become an overgrown jungle, and so we've spent the past two days limbing, weeding, trimming, and generally regaining control over the many trees and bushes that dot our property.<br /><br />Next-door, the sound of the neighbor's tractor could be heard as he cut and baled his field. I realized that I'm not so ready.</p> <p>My life has centered around our oldest son for over 18 years. I quit work when he was a year old. I was pregnant with his sister. I was a stay at home Mom / entrepreneur till he was in 2nd grade.</p> <p>I wanted to live my life with no regrets. The moment I saw his sweet face and blue eyes - this boy wasn't born crying. He was born living and looking into my soul from day one. I saw his eyes and fell in love. He eventually cried - when he realized he was cold and probably hungry. He's always been hungry.</p> <p>My days have been centered upon making sure he is fed (along with my other 2) and in being the best Mom I could be. </p> <p>I really just wanted to be a Mom. More than anything else. Just a Mom. A Mom who'd give up anything for her babies. No price was too much. High paying job - Poof - who cares - my babies need me at home. We want you to teach - poof - I'm a teacher - all to be closer to my babies.</p> <p>Like the postage stamp cars, I now feel myself ascending - going further away from this tyke become a man. His brown mopped head ascended far beyond mine several years back - he's a whole head taller than me - at 6'6" he is taller than most.</p> <p>Yet, as I looked out my window hiding my tears from strangers, I didn't see tall linebacker- I saw my little boy in the red onesie with the sailboat on the front. We used to play this game - I made lesson plans for my kids to cover all areas--</p> <p>The science game was called "Sink or Float." I gathered up a lot of items and had a bucket of water. He would put the item in the water and see if it would sink or float. He did it to everything in the whole house.</p> <p>Now, he's the one going in the water. The waters of college. Will he sink or float? </p> <p>He doesn't have on the red sailboat onesie any more. He has on his favorite grey GT hat - the one that makes his hair look just right when he takes it off. He has on his jeans, hung a little low for me, but they cover everything. His yellow GT shirt with Buzz, the mascot, on the front. He's dressed the part, that is for sure.</p> <p>I remember him running around and his sister on my hip. All those years. It was yesterday. Last night I was up with his colicky sister. I remember being in church and able to count on two hands the hours I'd slept since last Sunday. I swear that was last night? Somehow it was 17 years a go. How does that happen?</p> <p>When he was two, I desperately read books to help me figure out how to help him sleep. I also remember the "wise" girl with one child - younger than my son- who gave me all this advice about how to help my son sleep. She had one - I had two. Her child slept. Mine didn't. She thought it was something she did - sad, clueless girl. My son is 18 - he still doesn't sleep. I smile and laugh realizing that I might have known more than I thought even though I would have done anything to sleep - even listen to an over-proud Mom who cluelessly thought she had anything to do with the fact her child slept.</p> <p>Yet now, I hurtle towards Atlanta Georgia ready to get a taxi to go downtown. It is time to move him in. It is, quite honestly, time to let go.</p> <blockquote><p>"I am scared for this, this one moment, Daddy," I whisper again as my jaw and back of my throat feel the strain of suppressed crying. </p></blockquote> <p>Yet, my son is not scared. Caner Files Lawsuit in Federal Court Against Bloggers Over the Marine Training Video, Which Caner Calls "Top Ten Things You Need to Know About Islam"

Apparently number 1 on the list: ex-Muslims-turned-preachers will sue your pants off if you dare to expose their lies on the Internet. <br /><br />On Tuesday June 18th, 2013, Ergun Caner and his lawyer <a href="http://www.ncll.org/about/david-gibbs-iii-president" target="_blank">David C. Gibbs III</a> filed a federal copyright infringement lawsuit against bloggers Jason Smathers and Jonathan Autry. Smathers and Autry both posted 2005 <a href="http://www.witnessesuntome.com/2010/08/united-states-marines-duped-by-pretend-jihadist-ergun-caner/" target="_blank">training videos that Smathers obtained in 2010</a> from the U.S. government under the Freedom of Information Act - videos of Ergun Caner training Marines on the dangers of Islam in which Caner told fib after fib to our troops.<br /><br />Part of the complaint filed Tuesday by Caner reads: <br /><blockquote class="tr_bq"><b><i>"This video [Caner speaking to the Marines] is solely the recorded and live footage of Dr. Caner delivering a presentation as a part of a series that Dr. Caner entitled 'Top Ten Things You Need to Know About Islam'. Upon an invitation from the United States Marine Corp, Dr. Caner delivered this presentation as  a part of a training series on the religion of Islam and was compensated as an independent contractor".</i></b></blockquote>So we now move to the next stage of the Ergun Caner scandal. This move by Caner is nothing short of bizarre. He is putting his entire career on the line and the odds are not good. Let's face it, Caner <u>has</u> made his way back from the embarrassing revelations of 2010 that led to him leaving Liberty University. Caner now has a job that he tells everyone that he loves - working and training young people at Arlington Baptist College - and by his own admission he now has a full 2014 speaking schedule including summer camps with numerous youth groups. His debacle is behind him, and he has recovered - in large part because most people in the churches where he speaks do not know about what he did from 2001 to 2010 during what I call his "decade of deceit".<br /><br />But now, 3 years later, Caner decides to exert what he thinks are his copyright privileges of a video tape containing multiple lies to our troops as they prepared to go to war. If Smathers and Autry decide to fight - this is only going to draw more media attention to Caner and his deceitful talks, and more people will find out what he has done. It won't be good for his business.<br /><br />I predict this will not end well for Ergun Caner. It really is very sad. As I wrote back in my 2010 article <a href="http://fbcjaxwatchdog.blogspot.com/2010/05/coherent-defense-of-ergun-caner.html" target="_blank">"A Coherent Defense of Ergun Caner"</a>, my hope was that Caner would do the right thing, come clean, apologize, make restitution and move on with his ministry. But as I found in my battles in 2008 to 2010 - when you're dealing with professional religious men and their minions who are more interested in protecting their turf and their revenue and their status in a religious heirarchy than they are advancing the faith they profess, they will make wrong decision after wrong decision after wrong decision.<br /><br />And this lawsuit is just the latest - and largest - wrong decision in the decade long series of bad decisions by Ergun Caner.<br /><br />A few observations and questions now that I've read the Caner and Gibbs complaint:<br /><br />- Even if the court finds that Caner does own the copyright to this video and not the U.S. government, the question remains: what possible commercial value would there be to a training video full of lies and deceit? Certainly Caner can't claim that he was ever going to benefit financially from this video, and the Internet distribution by Smathers and Autry thwarted this benefit. Surely the defense would be during discovery for Smathers and Autry to show the video was so packed full of deception that it had no commercial value at all, and therefore their Internet postings could not possibly impact the commercial value of Caner's work. Furthermore, the timing of the release of the videos, and the context of the blog articles in which they appeared shows the videos were posted for a nonprofit, educational purpose. Seems like an easy case to make that their use of Caner's work falls under the "fair use" provisions of copyright law. But that is just my untrained legal view.<br /><br />- Caner now admits in his filing that he "was invited" by the United States Marines to speak. I thought that maybe Caner spoke pro bono, maybe the "training" was just some informal talks he did as a courtesy to the officer that introduced him in the officers' club videos. Nope, apparently the Marines sought Caner out because they believed him to be someone credible based on their belief that he was raised in Turkey as an enemy of America, as both Caner and the officer that introduced him told the audience.<br /><br />- Caner admits in his filing that he was compensated for these videos as an independent contractor. Now we know for sure there was a financial payment made to him for this training. As a U.S. taxpayer, I'm outraged. Our tax dollars paid Caner to come and speak to our troops preparing for battle based on a false pretense that he was born in Turkey, trained as a terrorist in the protocols of jihad, and raised to be an enemy of America - all which are not true. I want to know why the U.S. government has not taken legal action against Caner for the potential harm he caused our troops by what in my opinion was a fraud perpetrated against my government. I would also like to know who was responsible for not vetting Caner fully before hiring him to speak to our troops.<br /><br />Lastly, let me say this: there is a better than 50/50 chance that this action by Caner will greatly escalate the media attention given this embarrassing saga. Caner professes to have devoted his life to the cause of Christ, but his actions are only going to bring shame and embarrassment to the cause of Christ and evangelical Christians everywhere - and rightly so. And Caner won't be the only one to blame: it will be those in his circles who <a href="http://fbcjaxwatchdog.blogspot.com/2011/05/after-11-months-liberty-university.html" target="_blank">refused to hold him accountable</a>, and those who continued to pay him to speak at their churches and youth functions.<br /><br />I'll conclude by saying that while Caner might be able to get rid of most of the embarrassing video and <a href="http://fbcjaxwatchdog.blogspot.com/2010/03/ergun-caners-november-2001-fbc-jax.html" target="_blank">audio</a> put up by bloggers, Caner surely won't be able to get rid of the video below. It is a 2011 news report by Brett Shipp of WFAA in Dallas that documents not only the Marine training lies but the entire Ergun Caner "mystique and legend" as Shipp calls it. Both were busy with customers who looked like they had just gotten into the chairs. In addition to that, there were two people already waiting. Right off the bat I realized that it could be anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour before it would be my turn. I decided to stay though because what the hell, I was already there and I wouldn’t really go back later in the day anyway.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Luckily, they have a big flat screen TV set up with the Andy Griffith Show running so I was at least being entertained.  Just after the two men who were ahead of me got into the chairs a man came in with his little son. So, the three of us sat there and laughed at Barney Fife’s whacky antics and had a great time.  Unfortunately, when a chair opened up there was a near confrontation. <o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">The dad and I stood up at the same time and he tried to jump in front of me. I stopped at leveled the Jayman Death Stare™ at him and he quickly and meekly put up his hands and said “Oh I’m sorry, that’s right, you were next. That’s right.”  Uh-huh. <o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">See? I know what he actually wanted to do. He wanted for him and his son to get their haircut at basically the same time. Had he politely asked me if I would mind if they did that, even though I had already been waiting an hour, I would have said yes. I would have been more than happy to watch one more episode of Andy Griffith and wait. Instead of going the polite and decent route, he tried to cut in line and bully me. No dice buddy! <o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Anyway, after the usual exchange of niceties and a brief discussion of my hair desires, Brenda began to quietly and efficiently cut my hair. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug, and more than half take two, Mayo Clinic researchers say. Antibiotics, antidepressants and painkilling opioids are most commonly prescribed, their study found. Twenty percent of patients are on five or more prescription medications, according to the findings, published online in the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings.<br /><br><br /><br>Researchers find the data valuable because it gives insight into prescribing practices. The statistics from the Rochester Epidemiology Project in Olmsted County, Minn. are comparable to those elsewhere in the United States, says study author Jennifer St. Sauver, Ph.D., a member of the Mayo Clinic Population Health Program in the Mayo Clinic Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery.<br /><br><br /><br>"Often when people talk about health conditions they're talking about chronic conditions such as heart disease or diabetes," Dr. St. Sauver says. "However, the second most common prescription was for antidepressants -- that suggests mental health is a huge issue and is something we should focus on. And the third most common drugs were opioids, which is a bit concerning considering their addicting nature."<br /><br>Seventeen percent of those studied were prescribed antibiotics, 13 percent were taking antidepressants and 13 percent were on opioids. Drugs to control high blood pressure came in fourth (11 percent) and vaccines were fifth (11 percent). Drugs were prescribed to both men and women across all age groups, except high blood pressure drugs, which were seldom used before age 30.<br /><br><br /><br>Overall, women and older adults receive more prescriptions. Vaccines, antibiotics and anti-asthma drugs are most commonly prescribed in people younger than 19. Antidepressants and opioids are most common among young and middle-aged adults. Cardiovascular drugs are most commonly prescribed in older adults. Women receive more prescriptions than men across several drug groups, especially antidepressants: Nearly 1 in 4 women ages 50-64 are on an antidepressant.<br /><br><br /><br>For several drug groups, use increases with advancing age.<br /><br><br /><br>"As you get older you tend to get more prescriptions, and women tend to get more prescriptions than men," Dr. St. Sauver says.<br /><br><br /><br>Prescription drug use has increased steadily in the U.S. for the past decade. The percentage of people who took at least one prescription drug in the past month increased from 44 percent in 1999-2000 to 48 percent in 2007-08. Still Pregnant!

Sent an email to hubby.  I think he does better when I write than when I talk because he can save reading for later, while a conversation requires involvement by both people at the same time.  I thanked him for spending time with me yesterday while we talked strategy with handling the difficult child and how happy I was that our little changes in kid's routine went well last night and this morning.<br /><br />I also wrote the exact thing I blogged yesterday -<br /><blockquote class="tr_bq">I <i>really</i> wish I had a partner who was interested in helping me/us together through the journey.  But I'm eternally grateful that he hasn't run for the hills to escape me! </blockquote>I let him know his seeming disinterest in me was making it hard for me to function. This is a part-time 24 hours/week position with a wide range of responsibilities. The schedule is to be determined, but will include one evening and a Saturday rotation. Energetic, enthusiastic, tech-savy, customer service oriented and professional person to lead Circulation Department in a vibrant public library with recently expanded and renovated facility. Plans, organizes and directs library Circulation and Outreach Services of the Library; Trains and explores emerging technologies with library staff; Engages in extensive customer service with a highly literate community; Performs duties requiring substantive knowledge of library operations in the functional area of circulation; performs responsible and varied administrative work in issuing, receiving and circulating library books and non-book materials; assists patrons in using library services and facilities; Plans programs and coordinates room usage; Plans and coordinates the implementation of outreach services, including exhibits, art displays, homebound services and the public relations program of the library in conjunction with the Library Director and other staff. Performs professional work in implementation of library programs and collection development. Interviews candidates for library positions in Circulation and Outreach Services Department. May assist with recruitments in other departments, including library pages on a rotational basis. Promotes interest in library as community resource using such means as monthly calendar, library web site, newsletter, fliers, posters and media publicity, working with other staff to achieve goals in this area. Full-time position (37.5 hours per week which includes, 1 evening/week, and every third Saturday rotation) with all applicable Town benefits. Salary is dependent on qualifications.
