Also, because the injectable form of pentobarbital is licensed to Lundbeck, the manufacturing of it by a compounding pharmacy violates the Food and Drug Administration’s regulations against producing “copycat” versions of FDA-approved drugs.<br /><br />One solution is to return to firing squads, which are a constitutionally approved means of execution. They are also, as an advocate of a similar bill in Wyoming notes, “one of the cheapest.” </blockquote><br />Since when any politician gets really concerned about what any damn thing costs these days is a mystery to me, I'll have to file this under political grandstanding.<br /><br />It wouldn't, however, surprise me one bit if it didn't pass and become law though.<br /><br />I can still remember when they shot <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Gilmore">Gary Gilmore</a> clear back in 1977 and what a fuss was made over it.<br /><br />Another option is hanging.<br />Both are legally condoned methods of execution, <a href="http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/methods-execution#authorized">there are five total.</a><br /><br />The length of new rope they have to use would still cost more than bullets though.<br /><br />It's kind of a strange twist of fate but I wound up living in the same small town in Washington state where <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westley_Allan_Dodd">Wesley Allen Dodd </a>, one of the few killers in this state who was hanged, was caught by the boyfriend of the mother who's child he tried to abduct at the Liberty Theater.<br /><br />So if firing squads are going to be making a comeback then I would expect to see more hand wringing and sniveling from the same people who are crying about lethal injection.<br /><br />Personally I would rather be shot at dawn than face the prospect of spending the rest of my days in prison but then again, I don't plan on going out and killing someone for no good reason.<br /><br />I look at Capital Punishment for murderers the same way I do for Mad Dogs.<br /><br />Kill 'em all.<br />

Who would have guessed that high-paid white-collar employees invariably earn more than low-paid blue-collar employees? Time hasn't shocked me this much since they declared my snowboard to be a fad in the 1980s. I believe it was doomed to go the way of the hula hoop if memory serves. Oh how I laughed over that one at the time.<br /><br /><div style="color: red;"><i>News outlets have detailed everything from the exhausting nature of warehouse work (employees can walk as much as 15 miles daily) to ambulances waiting outside a facility to collect workers who overheated because of a lack of air conditioning.</i></div><br />On the other hand, that would definitely suck (pardon my language). I've walked a lot of miles in recent years and anything over 7 miles is risking a blister or two. I can't imagine doing it every day. The thought of an ambulance waiting for me after a long shift is <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Let_them_eat_cake">icing on the cake</a>. I can definitely empathize with the frustration.<br /><br /><i style="color: red;">Look at the Tesla factory - what's the worker to robotic arm ratio in that factory?</i> - polarbear429 (in the comments)<br /><br />And on that third hand, the more the poorest among us are paid the sooner their jobs will be replaced by automation. Talk about a lose-lose situation for the workers. There is no backup plan once the jobs are permanently gone either, other than to pretend they will all miraculously find work elsewhere. As a side note, the more Amazon and other automated online retailers sell, the less brick and mortar retailers can sell. There are potentially <a href="http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/USTRADE">15 million retail jobs</a> at stake here, and when they go they will no doubt take others with them. But no, it's just automated computers (in ever greater numbers) mining virtual bitcoins (in dwindling numbers). Put another way, it requires ever increasing streams of energy to generate fewer and fewer bitcoins. What a frickin' long-term plan of wasted effort that is (not necessarily from a miner's perspective, but for society in general).<br /><br />At least <a href="http://news-these-days.blogspot.com/2010/11/gold-porn-and-instant-gratification.html">gold gives you something shiny to fondle</a> once the mining's complete. I say this as one who owned gold from 2004 to 2006. It treated me very well over that period. No complaints. No desire to buy it again though (at these prices anyway). In fact with a premiere viewership of 15.2 million, that number is almost exactly one half the viewership of the premiere for Season 8 five years ago that brought in 30.4 million. If you look at my second graph, I have added the viewership of the finales in red to go with the premiere numbers in blue. In every season except Season 10 (Scotty McCreery's year), the number of viewers of the finale were lower than the number of viewers of the premiere. And then in the following season the premiere numbers were higher than the previous finale numbers going from 8 to 9, and then 9 to 10, But since Season 10's finale, both the premiere of Season 11 and Season 12 had viewership lower than the finales of the previous seasons. However, Season 13's premiere actually had more viewers than Season 12's finale (14.3 M), the first time since the premiere of Season 10 (26.2M after Season 9's finale with Lee and Crystal with 24.2M.) So perhaps that can be some good news hidden in these not so great numbers. Hopefully people will dismiss last years unexciting finale and spark a trend more like Season 10 where the viewership will actually go up from the premiere to the finale. I know Fox is hoping for something like that! For that to happen I believe it will simply require some contestants that people can learn to love and want to follow. If they repeat the Season 12 snooze fest of contestants they can just watch the numbers continue to fall.

That would be, of course, Chris Daughtry whose album "Baptized" leads all the other Idols for a second week in a row at #42 (from #38 last week.) Except for the re-entry of Colton Dixon's "A Messenger" at #132, however, the rest of the Idols on the Top 200 chart are all winners who have been on the chart for a while: Scotty McCreery at #85 with "See You Tonight", Phillip Phillip's "The World From the Side of the Moon" at #178 and Carrie Underwood's "Blown Away" at #195. Kelly Clarkson's hot selling Christmas album which was #64 last week has completely dropped off the album chart now, probably because it is now the middle of January!<br /><br />The only Idol listed on <a href="http://www.roughstock.com/blog/country-album-chart-news-the-week-of-january-15-2013-with-news-on-latest-albums-from-luke-garth-cassadee-danielle-and-scotty" target="_blank">RoughStock's country album chart</a> this week is Scotty, whose album sold another 8K this week (a good number in mid January) to reach a total of 187K. His "See You Tonight" single continues to gain spins on radio stations, so hopefully it will continue to sell until he releases a new single which he will likely perform on a televised show in a few months.<br /><br />Interestingly Candice Glover's new single "Cried" is starting to get some play on Urban AC stations and moves to #24 on the mediabase chart there. She will also probably get to perform her single live on a televised program so hopefully that will help both her single and the album sales for "Music Speaks" in February.
