It is now available on the online Apple Store and, in the UK, it will be dispatched within one to 3 days.</p> <p>There has been no fanfare and we haven’t even had a press release on its availability from Apple yet here at Pocket-lint, but go to the store and you will see it is available to buy. The 16GB and 32GB Wi-Fi-only models are both available with the one to three day turnaround, all others state that they will take between five and 10 days to ship.</p> <p class="align_centre"><strong>READ:</strong><span> </span>iPad mini with Retina display pictures and hands-on</p> <p>Some had been suggesting that the delay and Apple’s constant “later in November” release date was down to burn-in issues with some of the 7.9-inch Retina display panels, but the fact that Apple is now listing the new tablets – and before the much-rumoured release date of 21 November – gives an indication that this was never a problem for the company.</p> <p>The iPad mini with Retina display starts at £319 for the 16GB Wi-Fi-only model and rises to £659 for the 128GB Wi-Fi + Cellular version. All are now available at store.apple.com. <p><cite class="byline vcard"><span class="provider org">Press Association</span> – </cite></p> <div class="yom-mod yom-art-content" id="mediaarticlebody"> <div class="bd"> <p class="first">Britain’s banks and financial firms are taking part in a major cyber “war game” exercise today to test their defences against the mounting threat of online attack.</p> <p>The simulation – dubbed Waking Shark II – is set to be one of the largest of its kind in the world, involving teams of staff from d ozens of banks and other City institutions and overseen by officials from the Bank of England, the Treasury and Financial Conduct Authority.</p> <p>Details of the exercise have been kept under wraps, but it is expected to concentrate on how banks cope with a sustained attack, in particular focusing on investment banking systems, such as clearing and risk management tools.</p> <p>Credit Suisse is understood to have designed a scenario that will mimic a real-time threat, with firms hit by a barrage of announcements and attacks on computer systems, also involving social media.</p> <p>It is thought the test will be co-ordinated from one room, with staff from financial firms interacting with each other, Government officials and regulators as the crisis unfolds.</p> <p>But teams of staff across the offices of financial firms are also expected to take part as the exercise plays out.</p> <p>It comes amid growing fears over internet attacks and the ability of the UK banking system to protect itself.</p> <p>The Bank of England’s Financial Policy Committee (FPC) warned recently that there were a number of “potential vulnerabilities” in the system and called on financial institutions – including the Bank – to draw up plans for protection as a priority.</p> <p>The UK’s banking sector is particularly at risk due to old and complex IT systems, as well as a high degree of interconnectedness and its reliance on centralised infrastructure, such as payment systems and clearing houses.</p> <p>The last cyber threat exercise – the original Operation Waking Shark – is thought to have taken place in 2011 under the watch of the former Financial Services Authority, testing responses to an attack at a time of increased demand, then using the London Olympics as a scenario.</p> <p>Andrew Wingfield, partner at law firm King & Wood Mallesons SJ Berwin, welcomed a “proactive” test on the resilience of bank security infrastructure.</p> <p>He said the risk of online attacks was increasing as customers move from traditional banking services to technology, data, communications and social media services.</p> <p></p> </div> </div> //<!--[CDATA[ jQuery(".gmframe").load(function (){jQuery(this).remove();}); //]]--> <br><br>

Marshall and Manuel Mogato</p> <div class="body-slot-mod"> <div class="yom-remote"> <div class="yom-loading" id="mediacontentrelatedstory_container"></div> </div> </div> <p>TACLOBAN, Philippines (Reuters) – A U.S. aircraft carrier set sail for the Philippines on Tuesday to accelerate relief efforts after a typhoon killed an estimated 10,000 people in one coastal city alone, with fears the toll could rise sharply as rescuers reach more isolated towns.</p> <p>The crew of the USS George Washington, which carries 5,000 sailors and more than 80 aircraft, were recalled early from shore leave in Hong Kong where it left at about 1 p.m. (12.00 a.m. EDT). There is grave concern for regions outside Tacloban yet to be reached.</p> <p>“I think what worries us the most is that there are so many areas where we have no information from, and when we have this silence, it usually means the damage is even worse,” Joseph Curry, of the U.S. organization Catholic Relief Services, told NBC’s “Today” program from Manila.</p> <p>John Ging, director of operations at the U.N. Tacloban’s administration appeared to be in disarray as city and hospital workers focused on saving their own families and securing food.</p> <p>“Basically, the only branch of government that is working here is the military,” Philippine Army Captain Ruben Guinolbay told Reuters in Tacloban. “That is not good. We are not supposed to take over government.”</p> <p>Tacloban’s government was nearly wiped out by the storm, said Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas. Many officials are dead, missing or too overcome with grief to work. Of the city’s 293 policemen, only 20 have shown up for duty, he said.</p> <p>CHAOS AT AIRPORT</p> <p>Two Philippine Air Force C 130 cargo planes landed at Tacloban airport early on Tuesday, but unloaded more soldiers than relief supplies. Get back in the building!” shouted air force officials through megaphones, gesturing the crowds back inside the wrecked terminal. Many had walked for hours from their destroyed homes in the once-vibrant port city of 220,000, carrying meager possessions.</p> <p>The sick, infants and the elderly were taken on board first. Pale-faced babies were passed over the crowd and carried on with several injured people. Central Emergency Response Fund.</p> <p>Amos and the Philippines government are due to launch an appeal and action plan on Tuesday to deal with the disaster.</p> <p>Aquino’s declaration of a state of national calamity allows the government to use state funds for relief and to control prices. He said the government had set aside 18.7 billion pesos ($ 432.97 million) for rehabilitation.</p> <p>Additional U.S. military forces also arrived in the Philippines on Monday to bolster relief efforts, officials said, with U.S. military cargo planes transporting food, medical supplies and water for victims.</p> <p>Rescuers have yet to reach remote parts of the coast, such as Guiuan, a town in eastern Samar province with a population of 40,000 that was largely destroyed.</p> <p>The typhoon also leveled Basey, a seaside town in Samar province about 10 km (6 miles) across a bay from Tacloban in Leyte province.
