The average non-retired American does not expect to retire until the age of 66, compared to 60 in 1995. I'm craving a paisley fix. For some reason when the weather starts to get cold I want cute scarfs, a pair of boots, hot chocolate from Starbucks and some paisley eye candy. I've always loved it since my mom let my sister and I pick the coolest ever purple paisley wallpaper for our room back in the super awesome 80s. Well the price is headed down and might get back to that level again after more than three years.<br /><br />The average price for a gallon of gasoline in the United States fell 6.4 cents in the last two weeks, as crude oil declined and refiners passed on the difference to motorists.<br /><br />Some industry experts believe the price could keep falling, even below $3 per gallon for the first time in three years.<br /><br />According to the latest Lundberg survey, the average price was about 31 cents lower than a year ago, based on the Sept. 20 survey of some 2,500 retail stations in the 48 contiguous states.<br /><br />Trilby Lundberg, survey editor, said the rise came alongside a decline in the price of crude oil. I let a few things out of the bag in that post! For one I exposed my weight to the entire world {or the 5 people who read my blog, lol!} to see! And secondly, you may have noticed one of my goals was to use My Fitness Pal to track my eats, where in the past I had used Weight Watchers. I'll get to MFP/WW later. Today I'm going to talk about that wretched # on the scale. </span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">One of my goals was to weigh 181 by 9.30.13. Obviously if that is my goal you know that I currently weigh more than that. Yikes! That's a big number, but I plan to only make it smaller.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Lets take a trip down memory lane. When I originally started this blog 5 years ago I was tipping the scales at 202. A month ago, on August 12th, I stepped on the scale knowing what I would see would not be pretty. 192.6. I was less than TEN pounds of being my highest weight {not counting when I was prego}. Time for a change!</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">That very day I changed how I was eating and did really well for 2 1/2 weeks. I lost 8.4lb in that time frame. Then my 29th birthday {my golden birthday!} rolled around and I splurged on some treats. The next day my wonderful husband threw me a surprise birthday party and I splurged even more. Then it was a long weekend with family in town and I got even more lax with my eats. And instead of getting right back on track after the long weekend it continued....until September 16th, something clicked that day!</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br /><strong><u><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I needed to make a change...for good!</span></u></strong><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">That brings me to where I began {again} this time last week!</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Last Monday was my first day tracking my eats and making better choices. I didn't weigh till Tuesday. The verdict of eating terrible for 2 weeks: I gained almost 4lbs of my weight loss back. So disappointing! The only thing I could do at that point was to push forward and get rid of those 4lbs...and a whole lot more!</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Back to my September goal. My goal is to weigh 181 on 9.30.13, if you do the math, is a 6.8lb loss. I know, sounds like a lot, but I also know its totally doable! <strong><u>I've got this!</u></strong></span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A lot of people are ashamed of "that number" the scale says and I used to be, but honestly it doesn't bother me now. I know it doesn't define me. I've come face to face with it and I know what I need to do to change it! Wallowing in the pity of my chubby thighs & love handles covered with yoga pants & baggy sweatshirts will not help that number go down one bit! So I'm facing the facts, exposing it for the world to see, and can't wait to report to you how it will change over the coming weeks!</span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><strong><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">What's your view on that number on the scale? The importance of the modern library

<p> Friday we took a tour of the Georgia Tech campus as my daughter went for a college day. While my son is already a freshman there, this is my daughter's time and her decision. A study group of 4 of us met three days a week at 7pm here as we worked through freshman calculus together. Now it is all computers. Many of them - as you can see, have double monitors. </p> <p>There's a place on the back wall that shows where open computers are, but there are likely a hundred or so in this brightly lit atrium area. Interestingly, every incoming student is required to have a computer, but this is a place to go to work for serious business.</p> <h1>We still need desktop computers</h1> <p>There is still a place in our academic world for desktop computers- even when we have laptops. A place to sit still with our work. While Iike to draft with my laptop sitting in my chair in the den (I feel more creative there) when I get down to work, it is in the office on my trusty Lenovo m90z touchscreen with the huge screen and ergonomically correct desk chair.</p> <h1>A space to work, a place to work</h1> <p>An ergonomically big "place to work" is still needed. I did like how the computers were not slammed right up against each other but included a place to spread out papers, books, etc. </p> <p>Of course many of these students were dealing with CAD drawings and writing programs, but I have programmers in my classroom too. My student with the Raspberry Pi computer hooks it up to the big monitor in my room and uses the wireless dongle to use the big keyboard, etc. as he programs this tiny $35 motherboard. Just the workspace gives him room to think. A large screenspace is important when researching, working, and creating.<br></p> <p>Just because everyone has laptops doesn't mean you don't need pumped up workstations - especially if we're doing the kind of STEAM work we need to be with students.</p> <h1>We still need a quiet cubicle</h1> <p>But where I got really jealous was when they mentioned the third through fifth floors -- full of quiet cubicles, this is where you go to be alone and get work done. </p> <p>You can't see a reflection upon choppy water. It is often when things get very still and quiet, that we can start reflecting upon things around us and dive deep into thought. <br></p> <p>The tyranny of noise surrounds us. If we're at school - the voices and distractions and general hubbub make it a challenge to focus. If we're at home - the phone ringing and countless things to handle. </p> <p>I remembered the days - becoming more distant now - when I'd find a quiet cubicle on the fifth floor of the Georgia Tech library where I could be left alone for hours to "get work done." And man, could I get some work done. Time flowed like water through a fountain as I let it flow until the job was done. I started rethinking my own office envious of the serenity of those cubicles.</p> <h1>Libraries are vital</h1> <p>Libraries are important places. We have more diverse needs than ever upon these common spaces: computers, quiet places, teaching commons areas, workrooms for groups, cocoons for reading, places to check out digital creation equipment, maker spaces, places for conversations with a book club and more I'm probably forgetting now. We need more libraries with TV studios/ green screens and quiet rooms to record audio. We need more space, not less.</p> <p>Our libaries are important. Every time I hear of another one being cut, I ponder the short sightedness of people that don't understand the increasing importance of good teaching librarians, digital resources, and learning commons. When a person closes a library, it is most often due to lack of vision not lack of need that it happens. I'm All Set

Just wanted to let you know - today I received my 2013 Social Security Stimulus Package. It contained two tomato seeds, cornbread mix, two discount coupons to KFC, an 'Obama Hope & Change' bumper sticker, a prayer rug, a machine to blow smoke up my ass and a 'Blame it on Bush' poster for the front yard. What is the Most Valuable DC Comics Villains Month 3D Cover?

<div class="MsoNormal">I know what you’re thinking.  You love the DC Comics Villains Month stunt covers, but you are wondering exactly which ones to buy and which ones will be worth the most.<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">What is the most valuable 3D cover from DC Comics villains month?  Good question and a fair question.  As of right now, I would favor Batman Dark Knight 23.4 which is the Joker’s Daughter cover.  Bleeding Cool was <a href="http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/08/23/speculator-corner-jokers-daughter-leads-the-pack-for-dc-3d-cover-demand/">tracking them a few weeksago</a> in the $30 range, and they have been selling on eBay for over $50 and some at $100.  That feat is amazing considering the comic does not even get released until later this week, but rumors of short prints and skewed demand are driving the price up.<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Also the Harley Quinn cover in Detective Comics 23.2 has been achieving prices of around $20 to $25 on eBay, which is not bad for a book that is not that old.  Still long-term investment potential of any of the 3D villains covers is murky at best.  I can remember being laughed at for picking up as many Uncanny X-Men #266's as I could find (If only I would have knocked down some extra New Mutants 98's). the point is nobody knows what anyone will be chasing in a few months or a few years.<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Anyone old enough to remember the cover trickery in the 1990s is probably a bit leery of these kinds of stunts, but that does not seem to be stopping anyone from snatching the comics off of shelves across the United States.<o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">The stories have been all over the map as well.  While The Joker #1 cover was cool, the story itself might have been out there a bit too far, and the Lex Luthor #1 was interesting, but I’m not sure it lent anything new to the Forever Evil storyline (I guess we will all find out eventually). <o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><br /><div class="MsoNormal">So that’s the easy answer to this question via some evaluation of sales on eBay.  Is it the right answer?  Who knows, in a couple of days we could all be talking about chasing Marvel Lego variants. <o:p></o:p></div>

It has been a list of adjectives, not a real image of God. It has been too abstract, just a cold naming of characteristics. We can know all these things about God without really knowing God at all. It requires a special language – language that can suggest something about the extraordinary truth of God, but not reduce it to something so simple we dare to presume we have got God figured out. Accordingly, the language of Christianity is not a literal description of God. It is a kind of divine poetry with God between the lines. For example, Tibetans rarely have visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary because she is not part of their tradition. Conversely, Western Christians are not apt to have visions of Dakinis (dancing feminine spirits in Tantric Buddhism). Sigmund Freud disparaged religion by calling it a collective neurosis. But the psychoanalyst, Eric Fromm, retorted to Freud that neurosis was a private religion. Fromm is probably right. Religion becomes problematic when it is not rooted in community, and community is possible only with language. A faith community must devise a shared language of faith. It is implicit in St. Paul, St. John the Evangelist, St. Gregory of Nyssa, and St. Augustine. Dionysius the Areopagite made it explicit in the 6</span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 7.0pt; mso-text-raise: 3.5pt; position: relative; top: -3.5pt;">th</span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 7.0pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12.0pt;">Century. In his <i>Treatise On The Divine Names</i>, Dionysius set out an approach to theological language that has been the rule ever since. According to Dionysius, we cannot make any direct affirmative statements about God. God is simply beyond the reach of our language. It is impossible to say God is this or God is that. We can speak of God only by analogy, saying God is in some respect like this or like that.  A medieval council of the Church affirmed that principle.<a href="http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=1941566034196038608#_edn9" name="_ednref9" title=""><span class="MsoEndnoteReference"><!--[if !supportFootnotes]--><span class="MsoEndnoteReference"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">[ix]</span></span><!--[endif]--></span></a>St. Thomas Aquinas endorsed it again. It persists today in the teachings of modern theologians such as Karl Rahner. A metaphor or image of God is intended to tell us something true about God. It will also invariably tell us something false. We must be careful to follow two rules: (1) Do not extend the metaphor beyond its true point to include the false one. (2) Do not discard the metaphor just because there is a false point that can be drawn from it. For example, when we call God “Father” we mean that God is our source and that God cares for us as a parent does. Paradox serves three purposes. First, it keeps us honest, keeps us from conclusively and absolutely saying things about God that are not quite right. Second, it keeps us reverent, prevents us from thinking we have God figured out. Third, it keeps our minds open because we cannot get them closed around a paradox. One of the great dangers in religion is fixed concepts about God. It is all too easy to close our minds around them. Any such concept would be an idol.
