Although Munoz’s mother told ABCNews.com that this is not about abortion for them, the case has also garnered attention from both sides of the abortion debate.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', HelveticaNeue, helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 24.000001907348633px; margin-bottom: 1.1em;">"It's very frustrating because we know what our daughter wanted, and we're not about to honor that because of this law," Munoz’s mother, Lynne Machado told ABCNews.com in December, before deciding to contest the law.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', HelveticaNeue, helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 24.000001907348633px; margin-bottom: 1.1em;">On Wednesday, the family’s lawyers announced that the 22-week-old fetus was “distinctly abnormal,” with water on the brain, a possible heart condition and lower extremity deformities.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', HelveticaNeue, helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 24.000001907348633px; margin-bottom: 1.1em;">Texas law states that "a person may not withdraw or withhold life-sustaining treatment under this subchapter from a pregnant patient," but the judge determined it doesn’t apply to Munoz because she is already legally dead. In Texas, death is legally defined as “the "irreversible cessation of the person's spontaneous respiratory and circulatory functions," according to the Munoz family’s legal filing.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', HelveticaNeue, helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 24.000001907348633px; margin-bottom: 1.1em;">According to the suit, the hospital has interpreted the law in a way that "makes no sense and amounts to nothing more than the cruel and obscene mutilation of a deceased body against the expressed will of the deceased and her family."</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', HelveticaNeue, helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 24.000001907348633px; margin-bottom: 1.1em;">They also questioned whether the law was constitutional, but the judge did not make a ruling on this.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', HelveticaNeue, helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 24.000001907348633px; margin-bottom: 1.1em;">Because John Peter Smith Hospital is a local public hospital, the Tarrant County District Attorney's office represented it. When the baby continued to cry and Munoz didn't return, Munoz's firefighter husband got up too. That's when he found Munoz on the kitchen floor. She was not breathing and had no pulse. Police allege the pop singer admitted to having beer, marijuana and prescription drugs in his system.</div><div id="yui_3_9_1_1_1390712585507_3533" style="margin-bottom: 1.1em;">His blood alcohol level was .04. That level was illegal, because he is under-age. The standard for someone driving under the age of 21 is .02.</div><div id="yui_3_9_1_1_1390712585507_3543" style="margin-bottom: 1.1em;">The singer spent the rest of the night in jail then appeared in a Miami courtroom early Thursday afternoon where a judge set bail at $2,500. Bieber stood silently in the courtroom dressed in a jail jumpsuit as his attorney spoke. ABC News confirmed that "because of Justin Bieber's high profile status," he received special treatment and had his hearing moved up when it should have been Friday. He posted bail and exited the courthouse a short time later, jumped up on a car and blew a kiss to a throng of fans as he left. A couple hours later, he was spotted by news helicopters riding around Downtown Miami in a black Escalade that eventually pulled into the lush Viceroy Hotel in Brickell.</div><div id="yui_3_9_1_1_1390712585507_3553" style="margin-bottom: 1.1em;">Miami Beach police said Bieber was pulled over for speeding in a yellow Lamborghini and failed a field sobriety test. This is a first-degree misdemeanor, which could get him up to six months in jail and have his license suspended for six months.</div><div id="yui_3_9_1_1_1390712585507_3563" style="margin-bottom: 1.1em;">But he may be eligible for a program for first-time offenders that reduces the charge to reckless driving, said defense attorney Mark Eiglarsh, who is not involved in this case. Florida has zero tolerance for underage drinkers and if the singer enters a program for first-time offenders, Bieber will have to steer clear of all drugs and alcohol, as was the case with actress Lindsay Lohan.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 1.1em;">Miami Beach Police Chief Raymond Martinez told the Miami Herald that Bieber was incoherent at the time of his arrest. He had his hands in his pockets and resisted arrest without violence, the chief said, adding that the singer was driving with a Georgia license that expired at least six months ago.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 1.1em;">Police allege that Bieber cursed out the arresting officer then admitted to having beer, marijuana and prescription drugs in his system.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 1.1em;">A source told ABC News that Bieber was leaving SET Nightclub on Lincoln Road before he was arrested. After leaving the club, the musician's entourage had apparently used their cars to block traffic on Pine Tree Drive at 26th Street, a residential area, at around 4 a.m., creating a drag strip for Bieber, who was in a Lamborghini, the newspaper reported.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 1.1em;">Bieber was taken to county jail for processing. Miami Beach Police Detective Vivian Hernandez added that under Florida law Bieber had to spend a mandatory eight-hour drying out period in lockup after a DUI arrest.</div><div id="yui_3_9_1_1_1390712585507_3572" style="margin-bottom: 1.1em;">Police said that the other alleged drag racer, who was racing Bieber in a red Ferrari, was Khalil Amir Sharieff and he was also charged with DUI. The police report said the cars were going 55 to 60 mph in a residential zone posted at 30 mph.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 1.1em;">It wasn’t so long ago that Justin Bieber seemed so wholesome. He was the 14-year-old Ontario, Canada, boy living with his single mom. His YouTube performance went viral and spawned a recording career that's sold more than 15 million records.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 1.1em;">Like so many child stars, he had to come of age in the spotlight. It was not always easy -- tantrums, incidents with paparazzi.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 1.1em;">But even as late as 2012, he sounded like he was a young man with a lot of control, as in this “Nightline” interview: “You gotta be responsible and you know as far as alcohol, don't drink and drive excessively. I think you have to be responsible.”</div><div style="margin-bottom: 1.1em;">Then, things started getting weird. A tusker is prominently displayed on the national coat of arms. The country is even named after the ivory trade, underscoring how the giant mammals once proliferated in the West African nation.<br /><br />Ivory Coast has not conducted a recent census to determine how many forest elephants are left in the country, but conservationists estimate there only are a few hundred. In Central Africa, their populations have been devastated by poaching in recent years.<br /><br />The elephants being relocated were forced out of the Marahoue National Park by human migration possibly related to the West African country's 2010-11 postelection violence, according to the International Fund for Animal Welfare. This week, the group began tranquilizing elephants outside the western town of Daloa, then locking them in a crate for the 10-hour drive to Assagny National Park on the country's southern coast.<br /><br />The dozen or so elephants targeted for relocation moved near Daloa two years ago and began wreaking havoc, destroying crops and killing two people including a small boy who accidentally stumbled upon elephant calves, prompting their mother to attack, IFAW said.<br /><br />One calf is among those to be tranquilized and moved, the organization said. They have more oval-shaped ears and straighter tusks, and occupy dense forests stretching from Central African Republic to Liberia.<br /><br />Elephants are widely cherished as Ivory Coast's national animal, and the government contacted the animal welfare organization for help to solve the problem without hunting the elephants down and contributing to the ongoing decline of forest elephant populations throughout the region, said Celine Sissler-Bienvenu, IFAW's director for Francophone Africa.<br /><br />"This relocation solves a major conservation problem by contributing to the safety and well-being of both the animals and humans," Sissler-Bienvenu said.<br /><br />Similar projects have been undertaken for savannah elephants in southern Africa, but until this week relocation had not been attempted for the forest elephants of West and Central Africa, the Washington D.C.-based organization said.<br /><br />Lack of visibility in the forests increases the risks as elephants become harder to find and approach safely, Sissler-Bienvenu said.<br /><br />IFAW said relocating the 12 or so elephants around Daloa would take about a week and cost $250,000.</div>
