The Library Services Consultant is responsible for  marketing and sales of specific OCLC products and services to medium to  large individual institution accounts, including strategic academic and  public libraries within an assigned geographic territory. The Library  Services Consultant will participate in team selling to groups and  consortia usually of single type (all academic libraries group, all  public libraries group, etc.). The primary focus of the Library Services  Consultant is achieving and surpassing sales goals established for each  fiscal year by account and/or product. Activities include direct field  sales to libraries and work with OCLC-affiliated regional network staff  to insure appropriate sales efforts are developed and executed. The  Library Services Consultant is responsible for the relationship with the  account from initial contact through the development of the account for  long-term mutual benefit to the account, OCLC, and the network. Due to  the nature of this position extensive travel is required (i.e., 60 - 80%  of the time). The Library Service Consultant –Research Libraries is  responsible for field sales and will work closely with the Executive  Director, US Library Services, library services consultants, product  management staff, order processing staff, and OCLC-affiliated Partners  representatives to: Develop sales plans, regional and within a  territory. Execute sales and promotional plans through direct field  sales efforts (usually 250-300 accounts within an assigned geographical  region (one state or more). Responsible for in-depth knowledge of  library automation, library workflow, OCLC product and services,  applications of the products and services, product line potential, and  customers of the library or group (end-users). Develops territory  plans/presentations by account type and by product line for use in sales  to both the "decision-makers" and “operational” staff in prospect  organizations. Works with team members in Library Services U.S.  Division, other OCLC divisions, and OCLC Partners to facilitate  communication and implementation of sales/marketing activities.   This  includes participation in marketing communications activities for  assigned products and services, such as advertising, brochures, direct  mail, news releases and newsletter articles. Communicates results and  findings from sales calls, conferences, and meetings through established  reporting mechanisms in order to contribute to market research and  product development. Close sales - typical sales goals are in the range  of $15 million per year for the full array of OCLC services (excluding  Dewey and Preservation Resources). Establish and maintain relationships  with regional networks, libraries and groups. Position requires a  minimum of three years' experience as outside sales representative in  the information industry or with library automation. Ability to manage  complex sales cycles. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building  skills. Prior team selling experience. Demonstrated experience at making  presentations to large groups. Like the transformation of  "Breaking Bad's" Walter White from mild-mannered high school chemistry teacher into the infamous "Heisenberg", in October some pastors will turn: they now will tell you grand stories about Malachi 3, about your obligation to "tithe", even scare you and your loved ones to get you to give more money than you can afford to your church.<br /><br />All from a man who is supposed to help you and give you solid spiritual advice - and should know better - and perhaps DOES know better, but still does it. These pastors may be truthful all year - but come October they feel the need to lie to their congregations about their duty to fork over 10% of one's income - the first 10% - to the church. They won't tell you that the OT tithe was 23 1/3%. They will tell you Jesus endorsed the tithe. They will even tell you that Hebrews says Jesus personally receives your tithe. Usually they will roll out Malachi Chapter 3, and somehow connect an Old Testament practice for the nation of Israel to modern day financial support of 501(c)3 religious organizations.<br /><br />October 2010 was when I first noticed this October phenomenon - that was the month when some of the absolutely most ridiculous teachings about giving 10% to the church were rolled out:<br /><br />- <a href="http://fbcjaxwatchdog.blogspot.com/2010/10/brunson-we-should-expect-judgment-of.html" target="_blank">America is going to be judged by God</a> for all the lousy non-tithing Americans.<br /><br />- <a href="http://fbcjaxwatchdog.blogspot.com/2010/11/ed-youngs-tithing-sermon-show-me-money.html" target="_blank">People who don't tithe are "wasting their time"</a> coming to church.<br /><br />- <a href="http://fbcjaxwatchdog.blogspot.com/2010/10/is-god-our-father-or-is-god-godfather.html" target="_blank">God will "poof", blow your money away</a> in the wind if you don't tithe, e.g. "God collects on what he is owed". Like a loan shark.<br /><br />And this October is no different.<br /><br />I've got more clips this month from Robert Morris, Craig Groeshell, and Steve Gaines yet to come. And we are only half way through October.<br /><br />So peeps, if your pastor tries to lay a guilt trip on you this month - if he tries to make you feel less of a Christian for not being "faithful" enough to tithe - if he tries to scare you into thinking you're at financial risk from God and the "devourer" for your poor giving: just remember, he doesn't quite know what he is doing. He might actually think he is trying to help you. Or he might know what he is saying is not true but trying to raise revenue for his church and he knows that teaching tithing "works".<br /><br />Either way, just smile, nod, and ignore his teaching on Malachi 3. Pray for him. Don't engage him in a conversation about it. And for heaven's sake don't send an anonymous email.<br /><br />And continue to practice New Testament giving: cheerfully, as YOU have decided in your heart what to give. And always put your family and children FIRST in your finances, not the church.<br /><br />And wait for November.

I didn't feel like posting anything yesterday.<br />We finally laid my Father to rest.<br /><br />That was a very long week that I am glad is finally over.<br /><br />True to form it was a clusterfuck to the last minute, the very word my Father would have used to describe it no less.<br /><br />After the service was over and the funeral procession took off to head towards Willamette National Cemetery, confusion reigned.<br /><br />Confusion continued after we got there and when the final directions were given at the cemetery as to which drive to turn off and wait at for the hearse it got downright comical.<br /><br /><br />Nobody knew what the fuck was going on and there was a bunch of us standing in the road when word went out that when the hearse went by we were to get back in the cars and follow it.<br /><br />Pretty soon here comes the hearse.<br />It goes by and all these cars are trying to pull off the side of this narrow lane and follow it and the next thing ya know we are all just sitting there not moving.<br /><br />Then the funeral director starts walking down the line telling everyone to back up against the side of the lane again.<br />This is causing people to basically parallel park while backing up on a hill, in traffic.<br />What a fucking mess that was.<br /><br />Apparently much like NASCAR, the hearse needed a warm up lap and we had to wait for it to come around again and turn left instead of right at the top of the hill.<br /><br />My dad would have laughed his ass off at that.<br />We finally got to the little shelter and the Honor guard took over.<br /><br />I have to stop here and offer my heartfelt thanks to those people.<br />They did a fantastic job.<br /><br />I thanked a couple of them on the way in as I could.<br /><br />It was a gorgeous day, thank goodness for that.<br /><br />They did the three shot volley and the flag ceremony, the preacher said his piece and then at the very end, us boys who were the pall bearers at the church were supposed to lay our buttoneers they had given us on top of the coffin.<br /><br />I reached over to my lapel and promptly got stuck real good by the pin that was supposed to be holding the flower, which was no where to be found.<br /><br />Perfect ending.<br /><br />I figured the shoulder harness for the seat belt had knocked it off and while everyone was standing around I hauled ass in those slick soled fucking dress shoes back to the rig to find it.<br /><br />No dice.<br /><br />Whatta ya do?<br /><br />The Honor Guard wheeled the coffin over to the hearse and loaded it up and away they went.<br /><br />After I said my thanks and best wishes to all the folks who had come from out of town me and the wife got in the car and I back tracked to the place where I got out watching the hearse do time trials and couldn't find it there either.<br /><br />I wrote it off and went up the hill, turned left and started to go home and there the fucking thing was, right in the road where I had been parked, right where I had just walked by it <i>TWICE</i> and didn't see it and twenty cars had rolled by without touching it.<br /><br />I think someone was pulling a joke on me upstairs.<br /><br />Probably the Old Man telling me not to take it so seriously would be my guess.<br /><br />So anyways, it is done now.<br />There is the obligatory bullshit yet to come but I ain't interested in a bunch of fucking horse shit right now. My manners have pretty much been used up for a while.<br />Just leave me the fuck alone.<br /><br />To tell ya the truth, I haven't really had time to grieve yet and I need to do that on my own time without a bunch of shit distracting me.<br /><br />I'll never forget what my Old Man told me once about death and funerals, I thought he was being a heartless sonofabitch at the time but now I think I see what he meant when he told me , you don't cry.<br /><br /><blockquote>You don't cry when someone dies, you take care of fucking business.<br /><br />When it's all said and done and they are in the ground, then you go home and cry where no one can see you.</blockquote><br />Stoic bastard, I often wondered how he got that way. I'm sure it wasn't pleasant, Old School for damn sure.<br /><br />So now I have all this grief rammed down tight that I haven't dealt with yet and I will process that ,it's not that his death was a big surprise after all the shit he went through the last few months.<br />Unexpectedly sudden but not something I didn't see the possibility of.<br /><br />He lived to be 76 years old, it was just his time.<br /><br />It will take a while but life goes on and dying is part of living , for damn sure my situation is not unique.<br /><br />I was reminded of this fact when I saw three other funerals going on up there today.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
