How to get students, some of whom consider their school e-mail accounts so irrelevant that they give their parents the passwords, to take a look? At the University of Southern California, Nina Eliasoph’s Sociology 250 syllabus reads: “You must check e-mail DAILY every weekday,” with boldface for emphasis. In an e-mail, Dr. Eliasoph wrote: “Earlier it was because some students weren’t plugged in enough into any virtual communication.” Seven years later, she said she cannot remove the instruction because now students avoid e-mail because it is “too slow compared to texting.” Morgan Judge, a sophomore at Fordham University in New York, said she thought it was “cool” last semester when a professor announced that students could text him. Then she received one from him: “Check your e-mail for an update on the assignment.” “E-mail has never really been a fun thing to use,” said Ms. Judge, 19. “It’s always like, ‘This is something you have to do.’ School is a boring thing. E-mail is a boring thing. It goes together.” The University of Alabama’s cooperative education office tries a pileup of retro-style reminders. Engineering students, some of whom recently lined up at 2 a.m. to sign up for job-recruiting interviews, are told, individually and in person, to check e-mail at a particular day and time to confirm their spot. Even after all that, and the threat of their spot being given away, staff members still resort to texting some students. <h2>Bullets and betrayals fly in a fantastic hour of espionage</h2> <div class="body"> As a rule, rooting for the main character of the show you’re watching to get shot is a pretty clear sign that something’s gone really wrong with the show you’re watching. But rules are meant to be broken. That’s what Carrie Mathison thought when she defied a direct order and tried to stop the assassination of the man who could clear her beloved Brody’s name, even if it meant flushing months of work down the toilet like so much lithium. And that’s why, when Peter Quinn pulled the trigger and plugged Carrie in the arm, I cheered: Homeland has managed to get me as invested in its spy games as I am in the spies themselves. That’s an impressive feat for a show that was all but ordering viewers to abandon ship at gunpoint just a few episodes ago. And granted, it had to abandon a couple of longstanding themes to pull it off: I doubt anyone misses the Brody family all that much right now (though I’m sure, sigh, that they’ll return), but it does pain me some to remember what a thoughtful treatment of war-on-terror trauma and blowback this show used to be. Still, as a pure espionage thriller, Homeland‘s working as well right now as it ever has.  Seven Ways to Save ‘Homeland’ For one thing, the rival spies are entertaining as all hell. I’ve done a lot of complaining about Homeland‘s tendency to turn its antagonists into comic-book villains, but come on, the idea of a white-shoe law firm secretly staffed with silencer-toting, bathtub-body-dissolving assassins is too delightful to turn up your nose at. (It’d certainly make a lot of my old college classmates a lot more interesting to talk to at class reunions.) Even Mira’s parodically French boyfriend became interesting when the show revealed that he was running game on both Berensons, cozying up to Mira to get access to Saul. Coming at the exact moment when Saul’s at the top of his own game, rendezvousing with the world’s most wanted man by traveling to Caracas to meet with Brody and positioning Majid Javadi as the tip of a spear by which the U.S. will effect regime change in Iran, it’s a quiet little gutpunch to the Berensons’ personal and professional lives alike. It helped that the writing and filming were tight, too. Among other highlights, writers Alex Gansa (one of the showrunners) and James Yoshimura served up a William Carlos Williams quote as a clandestine code, and gave Carrie and Quinn a pretty priceless exchange in their emergency ride to the hospital: “Something’s going on.” “Yeah, you got shot.” “No shit – you shot me.” Venezuelan ganglord El Niño’s understated greeting to Saul – “You have a good flight?” – was a chuckler as well. But they also did their best with some of the season’s softest storylines so far: the crisis of conscience experienced by Fara, a character they haven’t even bothered to give a last name to yet as best I can tell, and Carrie’s unwanted pregnancy, her neglect of which they’re handling with an admirable lack of kid gloves. Fara hasn’t been given a whole lot more to do but be competent and look worried, but her cross-cultural interplay with her father and caught-between-a-rock-and-a-hard-place position regarding her family back in Tehran gave her a backstory that, hopefully, the character itself will soon live up to. Meanwhile, I’d like to think that the show will have the stones to have Carrie actually go ahead and end her pregnancy and allow us to accept this like adults, but somehow I doubt it. Nominally progressive American television generally professes a belief in a woman’s right to choose, but tends to render that choice moot by eliminating unwanted pregnancies with car accidents, gunshots, and miscarriages, any one of which strikes me as more likely than Carrie correctly assessing she’s in no position to carry and raise a kid and deciding accordingly.  Director Seith Mann handled the proceedings with panache. The way he staged Carrie’s entrance into the church where she’d meet with the sinister lawyer/hitman Mr. Franklin – at one point following directly behind her with a memorable tracking shot – or Saul’s arrival at the Tower of David in Caracas suggested these characters truly were entering slightly alien new worlds. Elsewhere, a corpse’s-eye-view shot of Franklin pouring acid on the dead bomber gave a very Breaking Bad plot point a very Breaking Bad look as well. The big news here, of course, is that Saul (and Dar Adal, by the sound of it) knew where Brody was – and the best part of that news is that this is an extremely unpredictable and unboring way to bring Brody back into play, if bring Brody back into play they must. Show of hands: Who else expected Carrie to stumble across that chump on a recon mission to uncover more of Javadi’s Caracas connections? Instead, we find out that master spy Saul is even more of a master than we thought, playing his protégé even as the two of them teamed up to play everyone else. What’s more, this explains one of the most inexplicable developments of the season so far: El Niño’s seemingly nonsensical decision to keep Brody alive and imprisoned rather than just shoot him the moment he started causing trouble. (Honestly, any valid reason for keeping Brody alive beyond “Showtime’s executives ordered them to” is a most welcome development.) Homeland‘s never lacked for either betrayals or bullets, but rarely has either been as effectively aimed as they were tonight. Last Week: There Is No Dana </div> //

Australia's market was steady in early trade. Nikkei futures were up 0.8 percent, signalling further gains for the Japanese benchmark. Tokyo's Nikkei popped above 15,000 for the first time in six months on Friday while amassing its biggest weekly rise in four years. It will be another important week for U.S. monetary policy as Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke speaks on 'Communication and Monetary Policy' on Tuesday. The day after the central bank releases minutes from its October policy meeting, which will get trawled for hints on when it might start winding back its asset buying program. Last week, presumptive Fed chief Janet Yellen sounded in no rush to taper, reinforcing market speculation that any move was more likely in March than December. 'If Fed officials think a December tapering is a realistic possibility, some hints to that effect would presumably make their way into the minutes this week,' said Michelle Girard, chief US economist at RBS. 'Just making clear that policymakers were open to taking action in December if the economic data showed the impact of the government shutdown was limited would likely suffice to shift expectations.' Girard still believes March is the more likely window for a move, if only because bond markets are typically very thin in December so a taper then could risk major dislocation. Figures on consumer prices and retail sales are also due on Wednesday and are expected to show that both price pressures and spending were subdued in September. Speculation over the timing of stimulus tapering has buffeted markets since May when Bernanke first suggested a rollback of the bond-buying programme was not far off. The Bank of Japan holds its policy meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday and is expected to maintain its ultra-loose policy. The BOJ has been perhaps the most aggressive of any major central bank in its asset buying, putting downward pressure on the yen in the process. The U.S. dollar was trading up at 100.33 yen on Monday, near a two-month high of 100.43 set on Friday. The euro bought 135.26 yen not far from the Oct 22 peak of 135.52, a high not seen since November 2009. The single currency was steady on the U.S. dollar at $1.3492, having edged slowly higher for the past week or so as tapering talk weighed on the dollar. The dollar index was off at 80.820, near the bottom-end of last week's 81.732 and 81.464 range. CHINA REFORM Supporting markets in Asia was cautious optimism about reform in China after the Communist Party unwrapped surprisingly bold reforms late last week. It pledged to let the market play a 'decisive' role in the economy and outlined changes designed to unleash new sources of growth. China's share index posted its biggest gain in two months on Friday, while the Shanghai Composite climbed 1.7 percent. 'Multiple growth-friendly measures were announced and represent the biggest freeing up of China's economic policy since the 1990s,' said analysts at ANZ in a note. 'Our China economists think that if these reforms are implemented successfully it will substantially reduce the downside risks to China's economy.' In commodity markets, spot gold was steady at $1,289.84 an ounce, having crawled away from last week's trough of $1,260.89. Brent crude for January delivery were off 13 cents at $108.37 a barrel. U.S. crude for January eased 8 cents to $94.41 per barrel, having suffered their sixth weekly drop last week due to a larger-than-expected rise in inventories. </div>

Benefit.  The HSUS is responsible for saving and rehabilitating thousands of animals, and travels across the country to help animals in need from puppy mills, dog fighting, neglect and natural disasters.  Thanks to the generous donators and supporters of the evening, the HSUS will have the funds to work even more of their animal saving magic. As the nation's largest and most powerful animal protection organization, The HSUS has been saving thousands of animal lives every year since 1954.  They use equipment, expertise, and financial resources to assist law enforcement with investigations, evidence and animal seizure, as well as coordinate animal care, sheltering, and final relocation.  Cruelty is prevented with a multi-pronged approach, which includes advocacy, outreach, and policy reform. New home prices in October jumped 21 percent from a year earlier in the southern city of Guangzhou and 20 percent in nearby Shenzhen, 18 percent in Shanghai and 16 percent in Beijing, the National Bureau of Statistics said in a statement today. Prices rose in 69 of the 70 cities tracked by the government. Shenzhen and Shanghai this month raised minimum down payments for second homes to 70 percent, following a similar move by Beijing in March, as local authorities struggle to contain price gains. Housing sales jumped 33 percent in the first 10 months of this year as Premier Li Keqiang refrained from adding new nationwide restrictions that would hurt economic growth. 'The flurry of new measures from the cities at least send a message to the market that home-price gains have exceeded the government's bottom line,' China Real Estate Information Corp. said in a report dated Nov. 14, before the numbers were released. 'That will, to some extent, affect developers' mentality at pricing, and slow price increases towards the end of the year.' Former Premier Wen Jiabao in March stepped up a three-year campaign to contain price gains, ordering cities with excessive increases to raise down payments. Shenzhen raised the deposit level from 60 percent on Nov. 1, one week before Shanghai announced the same move. Guangzhou, now the only of the four so-called first-tier cities that hasn't done so, is likely to follow suit, according to Zheshang Securities Co. This is why you need to get everything ready to care for your pet, should you have to face a natural disaster. Here are some useful tips to help you. <ol> <li>If a disaster leaves you and your pet trapped indoors, always make sure there is an emergency supply of your pet's favorite food on "paw". Just as important is a strong water supply. Always have many bottles of fresh water available, as running water may not work in your home.</li> <li>Always keep your pet close in tornado season. Should there be an alert, you can grab your furry friend and take shelter with him.</li> <li>You may not be able to get in touch with your Veterinarian, so if your four-legged pal takes any medication, make sure you have enough to last at least a week.</li> <li>If you must leave your home, it is helpful to have a pet carrier available, but make sure it is one that your dog or cat is used to and will enter voluntarily. To ensure that your pet does not make a break for it, use a carrier that can be locked and is inescapable.</li> <li>Bring some of your pet's favorite belongings, such as blankets, toys and treats. Chances are, your pet will be frightened or confused, so it is a good idea to bring familiar things that will keep Fido or Fluffy at ease.</li> <li>In any emergency situation, people, as well as pets, will be frightened. Comfort your pet by remaining calm and speaking in a reassuring and soothing tone. Also pay attention to body language such as shaking and clinginess.</li> <li>Practice makes perfect. Having a well thought out escape plan can save your life and your pet's life. Every once in a while, try some evacuation exercises with your family and pooch or feline. This can help make an evacuation much more organized and calm for all involved.</li> <li>It is very important for your pet to always wear his or her collar with proper identification. This is similar to a human always having their driver's license with them. Pet parents can also have a tiny microchip implanted in their pet to help locate them in case they are separated. These precautions can ensure a happy reunion if you are separated from your furry friend!</li> <li>If you and your pet are separated, pay daily visits to local shelters, animal control facilities, veterinary offices and kennels until you have found it. You can also post photos of your lost pet. If your pet has tattoos, a microchip or other permanent identification, this will increase the chances of finding it. Sony is competing for the attention of game players against Microsoft Corp., which is releasing the Xbox One this week. The Tokyo-based electronics maker has priced its console at $399, or $100 less than the Microsoft machine. 'PS4 sales are better than expected,' Koki Shiraishi, an analyst at SMBC Nikko Securities Inc. in Tokyo said by phone. 'More importantly, I am watching the penetration into the market one month after its release.' Sony will have adequate supplies of the console through Christmas and stands by earlier projections for sales of 5 million units by March, Jack Tretton, president and chief executive officer of the company's U.S. computer entertainment division, said Nov. 11. Sony shares rose 0.2 percent to 1,850 yen at 9:37 a.m. in Tokyo trading. The broader Topix index gained 0.2 percent. The company is investigating reports of defective PS4 consoles, the New York Times reported yesterday. Sony spokesman Dan Race said only a small number of people reported problems, according to the article. Race didn't immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment. The PS4 goes on sale in Europe and Latin America on Nov. 29. Dominic Moore thought he tied it with 2:41 remaining, but the goal was disallowed because he kicked it in with his right skate. Scrivens, filling in for injured regular Jonathan Quick, followed up a blanking of the New Jersey Devils on Friday with one against the Rangers. Los Angeles went 3-0-1 on the trip, winning the final three games. Scrivens has gone 156 minutes 2 seconds without giving up a goal over three games since Aaron Ness of the New York Islanders scored in the second period of the Kings' 3-2 win on Thursday. Los Angeles is 5-0-1 in its last six. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 29 shots in the hard-luck loss. The Rangers, 7-3 in their last 10, failed to follow up on their 1-0 win at Montreal on Saturday with backup Cam Talbot in net. New York dropped its second straight at home. Scrivens' best stop came six minutes into the third period when his right arm stopped Mats Zuccarello's shot off a rebound in front. Toffoli broke the scoreless deadlock 1:23 into the second period with his fourth goal in just seven NHL games this season. Toffoli, who netted the winning goal late in regulation against the Islanders, cashed in again with some help from the Rangers. The 21-year-old center spun and fired a shot from above the circles. Lundqvist slid to his right to get into position to make the save, but the puck hit the skate of New York defenseman Anton Stralman and caromed to Lundqvist's left and into the vacated part of the net. Lundqvist thrust backward in the crease in disbelief and disgust as the Kings celebrated. The Kings needed a break to get a puck past Lundqvist, who appeared sharp after getting a game off. He kept the Rangers in it as Los Angeles held a 10-2 shots edge in the first half of the second period. During an extended flurry in front, Lundqvist made several in-close saves and was bailed out when one drive struck the left post behind him. The Rangers certainly had their chances at the other end against Scrivens, but he was also up to the task. New York had back-to-back scoring opportunities while short-handed, including a 2-on-1 break that failed to produce a shot. Once they had, even fewer expected them to suddenly launch an impressive winning streak. But the improbable run to respectability continued Sunday for the Giants as they won their fourth consecutive game and moved within sight of first place in the N.F.C. East with a 27-13 victory over the Green Bay Packers. The victory over the Packers also accomplished something else that seemed unlikely four weeks ago: the Giants are no longer in last place. The Giants (4-6) are one and one-half games behind the first-place Philadelphia Eagles, who are idle next week. Next up for the Giants will be a showcase matchup at home against the Dallas Cowboys (5-5). 'We've got more to do obviously, but anytime you win four in a row there are good things happening,' Coach Tom Coughlin said. 'It's exciting to have a little momentum. It's good to have an opportunity now. It's something we've been pointing to.' The turnaround has transformed a moribund team into a feisty unit led by a dominating defense. To be sure, the Giants' last four opponents have not represented the elite of the N.F.L. - Green Bay was starting its third-string quarterback - but the Giants have been conspicuously led by the very stars who were struggling during the team's winless start. Eli Manning played another steady game and seemed to revive the Giants' touted downfield passing game as he found Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks for passes of more than 30 yards. Defensively, Jason Pierre-Paul, hampered for most of the year after off-season back surgery, had the pivotal play of the game, leaping to intercept a fourth-quarter pass and then sprinting 24 yards into the end zone. Pierre-Paul's touchdown gave the Giants a 14-point cushion they easily protected in the game's final minutes. 'He literally called it,' Justin Tuck said, referring to Pierre-Paul's prediction in the huddle that he would intercept a pass on the next play. 'I don't know if it's voodoo or he's psychic. That's something I've never seen before.' Safety Antrel Rolle agreed: 'That's one of the best plays I've ever seen. He's freakish. That's a game-winning play.' From the game's beginning, Manning looked as comfortable throwing in the pocket as he has this season, completing each of the four passes he attempted in the Giants opening possession. The drive stalled, largely because of a face-mask penalty on Giants right tackle Justin Pugh, which nullified a 17-yard scramble for a first down by Manning. On the Giants second possession, a penalty on left guard Kevin Boothe wiped out another Manning scramble, but the Giants quarterback came back with a 15-yard pass to Brandon Myers, who has not been thrown to very often in the last month. Andre Brown ran for 10 yards on the next play, setting up the play-action pass, which Manning used to get wide receiver Rueben Randle open over the middle. Manning did a nice job stepping up in the pocket and Randle made a sure catch of a low throw, corralling the ball inside the 10-yard line and eluding two Green Bay defenders to bull into the end zone for a 7-0 Giants lead. After a brief Packers possession, the Giants were driving again. A 5-yard run on a fourth-and-1 by Brandon Jacobs allowed the Giants to move deep into Green Bay territory and while the possession was halted at the Packers 22-yard line, it set up a 40-yard field goal by Josh Brown. Defensively, the Giants were dominating the Packers, forcing their offense off the field after three- or four-play drives. Green Bay had possession in the first quarter for 3 minutes, 26 seconds. But early in the second quarter, the Packers showed some life. Scott Tolzien, playing because of injuries to starter Aaron Rodgers and his backup Seneca Wallace, connected with James Jones for 45 yards over the middle and while the Giants defense stiffened, it led to a 24-yard field goal by Mason Crosby. The Giants then mounted an impressive drive, using 11 plays to advance to the Green Bay 15. But the 12th play was a Manning pass to the left that became yet another miscommunication between quarterback and wide receiver. Manning threw toward the sideline but Louis Murphy broke toward the middle. The wayward toss ended up in the arms of Packers cornerback Tramon Williams. While Green Bay did not score, it prevented the Giants from adding to their lead. The teams traded ineffective possessions until Crosby kicked a 57-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter. It was the second longest field goal in Packers history and it was the longest field goal kicked by a Giants opponent. The previous record by an opponent was 55 yards. The Giants extended their lead early in the third quarter with a 28-yard field goal by Brown, a score set up by a 35-yard reception by Hakeem Nicks. Consecutive passes to Cruz had the Giants back in scoring position on their next series. On a third-and-3 at the Packers 9-yard line, a pass over the middle to Myers picked up the first down and moved the ball to the 4. Brown ran for 3 yards on first down and Jacobs charged into the end zone to give the Giants a 20-6 lead with 25 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Early in the fourth quarter, Giants safety Will Hill came up early to play what he expected to be a run, it was instead a play-action pass to Jarrett Boykin that gained 52 yards down the right sideline. Three plays later, Eddie Lacy scored on a 4-yard run cutting the Giants lead in half with 12:43 left in the fourth quarter. There was some tension in MetLife Stadium as the Giants offense failed to get the additional score that would help put away the Packers, but then Pierre-Paul intercepted Tolzien's pass as he came off the right end and rumbled unimpeded into the end zone. The once winless Giants have not lost since Oct. 10. EXTRA POINTS Running back Peyton Hillis was inactive Sunday. Have you ever wondered what would happen if you decided to raise and love a parakeet or a canary? Would it be strange to hear your parents tell you to "walk the bird"? What would you feed it? How long does it live? Is it friendly? Did you know birds are the third most popular choice of pets in America, after dogs and cats? Every year, the President of the United States pardons one very lucky turkey, allowing the relieved and grateful fellow to enjoy his holiday not on someone's dinner plate. Now, just because the Commander in Chief grants one lucky turkey his freedom, it doesn't mean the gobbler gets to spend the rest of his life in the White House. While birds make great pets, think long and hard before you decide to adopt an eagle or toucan. First of all, turkeys should be raised in farm areas, where they have plenty of room to exercise and move. Unless you have a large, fenced in backyard, it's probably not a good idea to let your gobbling companion run around Times Square or Hollywood Boulevard. However, that doesn't mean you have to go the rest of your life without hearing the sweet sounds of chirping and flapping wings. Many birds, such as Parakeets and Cockatoos make great pets. But pet parent beware: some birds have big personalities and attitudes, so be prepared to go through some "roommate bonding" first with your winged diva. It is also important to get along with your new feathered friend because you two will most likely grow old together. For example, Amazons can live up to 50 years while Cockatoos can enjoy middle age in their forties! <img alt="3409725350_af153ec772_z" class="aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-33884" height="220" src="http://animalfair.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/3409725350_af153ec772_z-261x220.jpg" width="261"> Some birds, like Canaries and Finches, are seedeaters, which means that, well, they eat seeds. Aside from the obvious, these types of birds (Hard Bills), will eat certain types of plants and some insects. Other birds, like Parakeets and Cockatiels, are Hook Bills and generally feed on bark, plants and fruits. Almost all of your bird food needs can be found at your local pet store. After eating, comes an inevitable cleanup and birds definitely make you work. Make sure there is plenty of newspaper on the bottom of Polly's cage, so cleaning any waste or excess food is easy for you. Not only is it a quick tidy-up, but your bird gets to check out the Style section while he or she eats! Loving a bird isn't much different than loving a dog: instead of barking, they chirp, instead of wagging their tails, they flap their feathers! But it's hard to imagine a season much worse than the one Kansas City Chiefs fans endured last year. On the field, the team had the N.F.L.'s worst record; off it, a starting linebacker killed his girlfriend before shooting himself in front of the coach and general manager. By season's end, Chiefs fans were wearing black to Arrowhead Stadium. Like those who relocate from other cities, emigrants from the Kansas City, Mo., area - and I'm one - use the games to reconnect with their hometown. But last season, Chiefs fans gave up the ritual of finding a bar willing to show the game. It didn't seem worth getting off the couch. 'Altogether, I think we had six people last season,' said Josh Bowen, a Kansas native who owns John Brown Smokehouse, a Kansas City-style barbecue joint in Queens that he hoped would become a hub for Chiefs fans. This season has produced much better memories. Kansas City entered Sunday night's game at Denver - the Chiefs' most anticipated regular season matchup in many years - as the league's only undefeated team. The Chiefs' surprising success has had fans looking for a place to watch the games, and has turned Bowen's restaurant on a sparse strip of 44th Drive into a headquarters for Kansas City supporters. 'We're maxed out,' Bowen said before Sunday's game. 'I'm bringing in tables and trying to rearrange things to fit everyone. If they beat Denver, I might need to start renting a tent out back.' The fan club that has developed at John Brown has grown with the Chiefs' win total. Sara McKemy, who moved from Kansas City three years ago, struggled to find a base for watching the Chiefs, especially when they were bad, so she got in touch with Bowen before this season and invited several friends to John Brown for the first game. It took some coaxing. The restaurant is out of the way and has only two televisions. But McKemy's friends invited their friends, who invited other friends, and by midseason, the back room at John Brown's was filled with red jerseys. McKemy designed T-shirts with the Chiefs' logo in place of the heart in 'I [Heart] New York,' and has made several three-hour drives to a liquor store on the Pennsylvania-Maryland border to pick up cases of Boulevard, a Kansas City beer. 'We've had some Jets and Giants fans come in and say, 'Hey, can you turn on the Giants game?' ' Bowen said. 'I'm like: 'Look around dude. Are you nuts? This is our special time, so leave us alone.' I haven't had to disrespect any native New Yorkers, but I will if I have to.' Many fans said that as much as they were attracted by the football and the cuisine, they appreciated the chance to be with others from their hometown. 'Football season gets us together more often than the rest of the year,' said Kellie Johnson, who reconnected with her childhood friend McKemy. (So far, I've run into a former high school classmate, a cousin and my junior prom date.) Bowen, 37, sits at a preferred spot by the bar, and after each win, he plays Queen's 'We Are the Champions' over the audio system. He moved to New York in 2008 hoping to make it as a blues musician. He performed a one-man show in which he played banjo, high hat, bass drum and harmonica, using the name Trainwreck Washington, but had trouble landing stable work and started barbecuing meat in his backyard, selling it at a local bar. He opened John Brown in 2010, hoping to produce a facsimile of the barbecue he grew up with, serving strawberry soda on tap and using a rub heavy with brown sugar. But he may not be the same sadistic, maniacal and ruthless leader of Woodbury that we remember. Sunday's episode of The Walking Dead (9/8c, AMC)will actually flash back to where we left off with The Governor ( David Morrissey) after he slaughtered most of the residents of Woodbury, fleeing into the ether for who knows where last season until he suddenly appeared outside of the prison in last week's episode. But Morrissey insists that viewers should keep an open mind about The Governor's return. Find out what's in store: AMC renews Walking Dead for a fifth season The Governor has finally returned! Where has he been since we left him? David Morrissey: Where we left him in Season 3 was a man in trauma really. The one thing about what happened to him in Episode 16 is that it wasn't a premeditated act. A red mist came over him, and he went into a blackout. That's where that terrible violence came from, a very dark, deep place inside of him. We see at the end of Season 3 that he's not happy about that. That's a very troubling discovery about himself that he can commit that kind of madness and has that capability. We pick up there. We pick up with a man dealing with the knowledge that he can be that destructive, and that's a difficult place to be. Do you think he can actually ever live a normal life again? Morrissey: I think he wants to die, but he doesn't have the ability to kill himself. He goes into the nomadic-like madness where he's just walking and trying to walk away from his past. He offers himself up as a victim of fate. He just walks into the world to see what would happen. Through circumstances, he survives. But I think there's an element of him trying to reinvent himself into a person that is good, a person that has humanity and is of value and worth. The battle that he will have is whether he can achieve that or not because he knows he's capable of violence. Why has The Governor returned to the prison? Is it pure vengeance? Hope for redemption? Morrissey: It's important to not jump to conclusions about why he's there. The knowledge we have of The Governor from last season, we'd like to think he's standing outside the prison with destruction on his mind. That might not necessarily be the case. There are many reasons why he could be standing outside the prison and why he has found his way back. We see in real life that sometimes we have to deal with our enemy by forgetting the past. Are these people changed? Are they different? Can I deal with my enemy, the person who's done me harm in the past? That's a negotiation that happens on a daily basis in the world. The Governor has to at least still hate Michonne (Danai Gurira). Is there still a part of him that has particular plans for her? Morrissey: I'm not sure about that, actually. What will happen in Episodes 6 and 7 is an emergence of a character that is different. It's a character that is possibly trying to get away from all those feelings of revenge and those feelings of destruction. There's a way that possibly they can live separately and still live securely. They don't have to be sitting at the same dinner table. There are many ways to get through this if you take negotiating into consideration rather than all-out destruction. 25 unnecessary spin-offs What can you tell us about Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and The Governor coming face-to-face? Morrissey: Rick is a very different character this season. He's making very different choices about leadership. They're also facing a different threat. There are lots of differences from last season and the characters are changing and the decisions they make are changing. We know The Governor is standing there on his own, but we don't know who he is with, we don't know the party he is with or if there are other people there. If he turned up at the gates of the prison on his own and said to Rick, 'Listen, can I come in?' there might be one answer he gets. But if he turns up with a different party of people with a different proposal, then I think Rick is intelligent enough to know that there are ways of dealing with The Governor and his other people where a compromise can work. Is there a part of The Governor who regrets what he did to Andrea (Laurie Holden) because she cared about him? Morrissey: There are parts of The Governor who wants to erase elements of his past. There are elements that he wish hadn't happened, but not just Andrea. There are things that happened in the lead-up to that that he would change. There are very few people, particularly in The Walking Dead life, who would look at their past who wouldn't change a thing. He would reassess his past, and there would definitely be things he prefers wouldn't happen for many reasons. When you were cast in the AMC pilot Line of Sight, viewers assumed it meant the end of The Governor. What's your response to that? Morrissey: The reason I was able to do that was because it's an AMC show. It's a great pilot and I really liked it, but I'm employed by The Walking Dead. I'm a Walking Dead actor. I want to be in it as long as I can like all the actors on it. I don't know what the plans are with AMC with that. I was more than happy to do it because I think it's a great show with great potential. I love doing Walking Dead and the character of The Governor, which I adore. The great thing about The Walking Dead is that you never know. I love the fact that no one is safe. It's where we work. That's what this world is. That's why it's so successful. We don't do those Star Trek moments where five guys are beaming down and four of them are regulars on the show and there's one guy you've never seen before. You think, 'I don't think he's making it back to the Enterprise.' We kill off our favorite characters some times. It's tough. The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9/8c on AMC. </div>

With three weeks left in the regular season and most teams having just two games remaining, the number of potential BCS participants has dwindled to a manageable number. But there's still plenty to be decided, as no team has clinched a spot in the BCS just yet, and the defending national champion has reached an 'all or nothing' position. For Alabama, it looks like national title game or bust, as one loss will more than likely knock the Crimson Tide out of a chance to play in any major bowl game this season. Here's how everything stacks up right now. For the latest BCS standings, click here. Vizio BCS National Championship Game Current prediction: Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Florida State Seminoles Next in line for BCS No. 1 and No. 2 spots: Ohio State, Baylor, Missouri, Auburn If either Alabama or Florida State were to lose, it projects to be a tight race between Ohio State and Baylor to fill that opening in the top two. The Buckeyes currently hold a slight edge, but a win by Baylor over Oklahoma State this week should be more than enough to vault the Bears past OSU in the BCS standings. With Ohio State having lost more poll support off its Illinois game, Baylor appears to now be the team with the upper hand in this race. Following Houston's 28-23 loss to the Oakland Raiders, the teammates talked about their argument, which stemmed from Schaub's incompletion in the end zone to Johnson on final play of the game. 'You can see the frustration on his face, frustration on my face,' Johnson said. 'I'm not worried about that. I think you all are making a big deal about it. We played a lot of football together. Me and Matt have a good relationship.' Johnson and Schaub have played a lot of football together, but not recently. The Texans started Case Keenum in their past four games, all losses, benching Schaub after he suffered a foot and ankle injury against the St. Louis Rams. Schaub would not reveal what he and Johnson were arguing about on the sideline. 'It's just emotions, emotions of the game, a culmination of a lot of things, but stuff we will keep between us,' Schaub said. 'He is a great guy and a great competitor, as am I. Just the heat of the moment, but that is behind us.' Schaub entered Sunday's game late in the third quarter, replacing a healthy Keenum. 'We had to make a lot of changes from a protection standpoint to handle some of the things they were doing,' Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. 'Trying to create some tempo and do that and it made it very tough on Case, in my opinion, being a young player. 'I knew that Matt could get done some of the things that I wanted to get done, real fast, and to give us a chance to win the football game. So that's why I did it.' Schaub finished the game with 12 completions on 25 passes for 155 yards, no interceptions and no touchdowns. Keenum completed 13 of 24 passes for 170 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Texans are now 2-8, having lost a single-season franchise-record eight games in a row. Last week, Johnson called it the most frustrating season he's been through. Johnson, a first-round pick in 2003, was asked if he was happy playing for the Texans moving forward. 'I'm under contract, so, I have to play my contract out,' Johnson said. 'I can't do anything about that.' Johnson also was asked if he would be willing to go through lean years again. 'I've always said this this is where I wanted to be, so I don't really have anything to say about that,' he said.
