China shares spark Asia rally as reform plans buoy mood

The index amassed its biggest weekly rise in four years last week.</p><br /><p>MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan .MIAPJ0000PUS added 0.5 percent, having gained 1.3 percent on Friday for its best daily rise in almost two months.</p><br /><p>Singapore shares .FTSTI gained 0.3 percent as data showed exports beat forecasts in October.</p><br /><p>It is another important week for U.S. monetary policy as Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke speaks on 'Communication and Monetary Policy' on Tuesday.</p><br /><p>The day after the central bank releases minutes from its October policy meeting, which will get trawled for hints on when it might start winding back its asset buying program.</p><br /><p>Last week, presumptive Fed chief Janet Yellen sounded in no rush to taper, reinforcing market speculation that any move was more likely in March than December.</p><br /><p>'If Fed officials think a December tapering is a realistic possibility, some hints to that effect would presumably make their way into the minutes this week,' said Michelle Girard, chief US economist at RBS.</p><br /><p>'Just making clear that policymakers were open to taking action in December if the economic data showed the impact of the government shutdown was limited would likely suffice to shift expectations.'</p><br /><p>Girard still believes March is the more likely window for a move, if only because bond markets are typically very thin in December so a taper then could risk major dislocation.</p><br /><p>Figures on consumer prices and retail sales are also due on Wednesday and are expected to show that both price pressures and spending were subdued in September.</p><br /><p>Speculation over the timing of stimulus tapering has buffeted markets since May when Bernanke first suggested a rollback of the bond-buying program was not far off.</p><br /><p>The Bank of Japan holds its policy meeting on Wednesday and Thursday and is expected to maintain its ultra-loose policy. The BOJ has been perhaps the most aggressive of any major central bank in its asset buying, putting downward pressure on the yen in the process.</p><br /><p>The U.S. dollar was trading up at 100.30 yen on Monday, near a two-month high of 100.43. The euro bought 135.20 yen not far from the Oct 22 peak of 135.52, a peak not seen since November 2009.</p><br /><p>The single currency drifted off on the U.S. dollar to $1.3478, having edged slowly higher for the past week or so as tapering talk weighed on the dollar. The dollar index .DXY edged up to 80.912.</p><br /><p>CHINA REFORM</p><br /><p>Supporting markets in Asia was cautious optimism about reform in China after the Communist Party unwrapped surprisingly bold reforms late last week.</p><br /><p>It pledged to let the market play a 'decisive' role in the economy and outlined changes designed to unleash new sources of growth.</p><br /><p>China's .CSI300 share index posted its biggest gain in two months on Friday, while the Shanghai Composite .SSEC climbed 1.7 percent.</p><br /><p>'Multiple growth-friendly measures were announced and represent the biggest freeing up of China's economic policy since the 1990s,' said analysts at ANZ in a note.</p><br /><p>'Our China economists think that if these reforms are implemented successfully it will substantially reduce the downside risks to China's economy.'</p><br /><p>In commodity markets, spot gold was steady at $1,287.05 an ounce, having crawled away from last week's trough of $1,260.89.</p><br /><p>Brent crude for January delivery eased 25 cents to $108.25 a barrel. "I'm 88 years old (it was a few days before her birthday) and they can't give the Nobel to someone who's dead, so I think they were probably thinking they'd probably better give it to me now before I've popped off."</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-left: 60px;">In <i>The Golden Notebook</i> (1962), a writer named Anna Wulf keeps notebooks to record her struggles with motherhood, work, sex and politics.</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-left: 60px;">But in an introduction she wrote for a 1993 reissue, Lessing claimed the novel was not a "trumpet for women's liberation."</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-left: 60px;">In a 2006 interview with the Associated Press, Lessing said feminism was often an excuse for bad behavior, and said of women: "We don't seem go in very much for self-criticism."</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-left: 60px;">Lessing wrote more than 55 works of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Her first novel,<i>The Grass Is Singing</i> (1950), looked at racism in Southern Rhodesia through the prism of a loveless marriage. In 2008, she wrote <i>Alfred & Emily</i>, which reimagined the lives of her British parents as if World War I had never happened.</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-left: 60px;">In the 1970s, Lessing began writing science fiction, which was unpopular with some critics. After she won the Nobel, critic Harold Bloom carped: "Although Ms. Lessing at the beginning of her writing career had a few admirable qualities, I find her work for the past 15 years quite unreadable."</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-left: 60px;">Lessing was born on Oct. 22, 1919, in Persia (now Iran) where her father was a bank manager. She moved to Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) at age 5 and lived there until she was 29.</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-left: 60px;">She was married and divorced twice. After her first divorce, she became involved with a group of literary communists and socialists headed by Gottfried Lessing, her second husband and father of her third child.</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-left: 60px;">But after becoming disillusioned with the communist movement, Lessing in 1949 left her husband and moved to Britain.</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 15px; margin-left: 60px;">Lessing's early novels were critical of the treatment of black Africans by white colonials and South Africa's apartheid system, and Southern Rhodesia and South Africa barred her in 1956. But Karl Urban would be wrong! For Karl Urban is actually an extraordinary machine that has been programmed to think he is Karl Urban. Karl Urban does not know this, though sooner or later, he will, and when he does, Karl Urban will be very sad. Poor Karl Urban!</span></div><div><div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #454545; font-family: arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px; padding: 0px 0px 12px; vertical-align: baseline;">No, we speak not of the real-world Karl Urban, star of <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Star Trek </em>and<em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Dredd</em>, but the character that this fine actor plays on the new sci-fi buddy cop drama <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Almost Human</em>, which premiered Sunday night on Fox. Urban is John Kennex, a police officer in the near-future where human cops work side by side with robot cops. The pilot episode gives John a new partner, a humanoid android with buggy emotional components named Dorian, played by Michael Ealy. I am convinced that one of the big twists of this new series from J.J. Abrams and <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Fringe</em> mastermind J.H. Wyman — both of whom are fond of big twists — is that John Kennex will mysteriously get younger as the saga progresses, while Dorian mysteriously, rapidly ages and corrodes. Okay, that was a joke. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Picture_of_Dorian_Gray" style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgb(255, 94, 153); color: #24bcc8; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">A literary joke!</a> No, my very serious theory is that John Kennex ain’t a human being at all. He’s a robot, too! Or something very close to it. The pilot establishes that he has a bionic leg to replace the one that got blown off during a firefight with bad guys known as The Syndicate. But I assert that the rest of him is made of fabricated from sci-fi hoo-ha, too. Why do I believe in such a thing? Clues, man! Clues! Come, theorize with me.</div><div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #454545; font-family: arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px; padding: 0px 0px 12px; vertical-align: baseline;"><span id="more-151355" style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"></span></div><div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #454545; font-family: arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px; padding: 0px 0px 12px; vertical-align: baseline;"><strong style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">The <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Blade Runner</em> Connection. </strong><em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Almost Human</em> — a story set in dystopian 2048, about a crusty-haunted cop who resents robots yet develops a bromantic relationship with one — is conspicuous with similarities to <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Blade Runner,</em> director Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic set in dystopian 2019 , about a crusty-haunted ex-cop named Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) who hunts renegade bioengineered beings, or Replicants, and falls in love with one. First, Urban could pass for Ford, don’t you think? (Squint. See?) Second, <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Blade Runner</em> and the pilot episode of<i style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Almost Human</i> have scenes set in downtown noodle joints. They also have scenes set in black-market medical clinics. (<em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Blade Runner</em>: The scene with Chew, the dude who makes eyeballs. <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Almost Human</em>: The scene with John visiting a “Recollectionist.”) In <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Blade Runner</em>, Deckard was hunting Replicants who had worked in space. In<em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Almost Human</em>, Dorian was assigned to work on a space station before being re-assigned to be John’s partner. Why is the <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Blade Runner</em> connection relevant to my theory that John Kennex is a robot? <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replicant#Was_Deckard_a_replicant.3F" style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgb(255, 94, 153); color: #24bcc8; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">Because of the popular, controversial theory that Ford’s <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Blade Runner</em> character was himself a Replicant,</a> but didn’t know it. Ergo: Kennex is something like a Replicant himself. What this means, clearly, is that John himself is a K’Nex-like construction, which is to say, a thing assembled from synthetic, component stuff.</div><div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #454545; font-family: arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px; padding: 0px 0px 12px; vertical-align: baseline;"><strong style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">“Synthetic Calibration Incomplete” “Synthetic Fail — Calibration Required”</strong> Throughout the premiere episode, John has problems with his bionic leg, and it keeps bleating those aforementioned FAIL alerts. What the show wants you to think is that John’s artificial shank isn’t properly meshing with his joints and junk. But the show is pulling your leg, so to speak. This is misdirection — for us, and for John. A mechanical leg that keeps reminding you that you have a mechanical leg has the psychological effect of reinforcing the idea <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">that the rest of you is perfectly human</em>. And so the limb, and its alleged malfunction, is a mind game, intended to prevent John from realizing that he is wholly synthetic. My guess is that the rest of John is built from chips and and wires and silicon, artfully designed to resemble flesh and bone, blood and guts; or that he;s been developed from “programmable DNA,” another idea that gets talked about a lot in the pilot. It allows you the ability to genetically engineer custom-made people. Hence, John is a synthetic copy of his old human self — a super-fancy life-like robo-android thingy.</div><div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #454545; font-family: arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px; padding: 0px 0px 12px; vertical-align: baseline;"><strong style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">“The Recollectionist” isn’t who he says he is.</strong> John is secretly getting treatment from a doctor at a black-market medical clinic. John lost a lot of memory when the Syndicate almost blew him up two years ago, and the underground M.D. is helping John remember what he has forgotten. Or so he thinks. I submit that this so-called “Recollectionist” is working for the people who put our Humpty-Dumpty hero back together again. He’s<em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">programming</em> John with memories collected from his old brain. He might be feeding him doctored versions of those memories, too. You know how John is now remembering that his ex-girlfriend was working with the bad guys? Nope. That’s what Ersatz John’s maker <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">want </em>him to think. Probably to keep him motivated to keep chasing after the Syndicate. Who’s Franken-John’s Doc Frankenstein? My money is on John’s boss, Captain Maldonado, played by Lili Taylor. You get the sense that the department is lousy with dirty cops. John, then, represents the Captain’s solution to the problem: She recruited a good cop by recreating the best one she knew.</div><div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #454545; font-family: arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px; padding: 0px 0px 12px; vertical-align: baseline;"><strong style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">“’Synthetic.’ There’s that word again.”</strong> Throughout the pilot, John insists on calling Dorian a “synthetic.” Dorian doesn’t like it; “synthetic” is a dirty word to him. It reduces him, denigrates him, subverts his sense of himself as unique, authentic living entity. This despite the fact that “synthetic” is, technically speaking, a perfectly appropriate term for Dorian. “’Synthetic.’ There’s that word again,” says Dorian whenever John throws it in his face. It happens enough to be suspicious. It’s almost as if the show itself is calling attention to the word, underscoring it and putting it in bold. Why? Some might say that the producers want us to view <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Almost Human</em> as an allegory for Otherness and bigotry, although I find this reading problematic if not offensive. (Another essay, another time.) I say the producers are hammering “synthetic” into our brains to set up the ironic revelation of the series: That John <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">himself</em> is synthetic.</div><div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #454545; font-family: arial; font-size: 12px; line-height: 20px; padding: 0px 0px 12px; vertical-align: baseline;"><strong style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">John Kennex = Dorian.</strong> The marketing for <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Almost Human</em> has consisted of imagery that shows John partially or completely superimposed on Dorian and vise versa. This is very clever symbolism. It suggests a meaningful equivalency. John is “almost human” in that he is trying to recover his humanity after having life figuratively blown up and his body nearly and literally blown to smithereens. Dorian is “almost human” because he’s the most life-like android ever built, with emotions and flaws and stuff. Together, they represent humanity’s increasing reliance and enmeshment with technology, which may ultimately lead to a future in which sentient machines are indistinguishable from human beings. But I would argue that this imagery is a clue to Kennex’s true nature. Moreover, the pilot episode is full of lines that push this notion that John and Dorian have more in common than John would like to admit. Says one jerk police officer, about John and Dorian: “That’s perfect. <em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><strong style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Two cops from the scrap heap</strong></em>.” Captain Maldonado, to John, about Dorian: “Because he’s special. <strong style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">Just like you</em></strong>.” Dorian to John: “<strong style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><em style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-variant: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">If I were like you</em></strong>,  I wouldn’t know myself, either.” Bottom line: Kennex is just like Dorian . OPEC says $160

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><img src="http://www.azernews.az/article_photo/opec2.jpg" width="600"/><br /><p>The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries raised its forecasts for its crude-oil basket price and long-term world oil demand growth, according to the latest annual World Oil Outlook report.</p><br /><p>The report from OPEC, which provides a view on the world oil market from 2010 to 2035, said oil prices CLZ3 are forecast to 'remain stable in the long run,' though its estimates are a bit higher than last year`s report. OPEC said it expects its nominal OPEC Reference Basket price (ORB) to average $110 a barrel over the period to 2020 and then rise to $160 by 2035.</p><br /><p>In its 2012 report, OPEC had said it assumed that the ORB nominal price would average $100 a barrel over the medium term before rising with inflation to reach $120 by 2025 and $155 by 2035. The ORB is made up of a dozen different types of crude oils.</p><br /><p>For the medium-term period of 2012-2018, demand is expected to increase by an average of 0.9 million barrels per day annually, reaching 94.4 million barrels per day by 2018, OPEC`s latest report said. In last year`s report, it projected that by the year 2016, demand would reach 92.9 million barrels a day.</p><br /><p>For the long-term, it expects demand to rise by nearly 20 million barrels per day for the 2012-2035 period to 108.5 million barrels per day by 2035. That`s up from its previous forecast for demand of 107.3 million barrels per day by 2035.</p><br /><p>The demand increase represents the first upward revision in oil-demand growth since the World Oil Outlook (WOO) was first published, according to OPEC.</p><br /><p>'This year`s WOO demonstrates again that there is no shortage of oil and resources are plentiful,' it said. 'Increasing global oil demand is supported by an expanding diversity of supply sources: crude oil including tight oil, NGLs [natural-gas liquids], oil sands gas- and coal-to-liquids and biofuels.'</p><br /></div>

Asia Stocks Gain After China Reforms as Oil Falls With Bond Risk

The won and ringgit strengthened for a third day, while oil and metals retreated.</p><br /><p>The MSCI Asia Pacific Index added 0.9 percent at 1:22 p.m. in Tokyo. A measure of Chinese shares listed in Hong Kong headed for the highest close since May. Standard & Poor's 500 Index (SPX) futures slid 0.1 percent after the gauge rose to a record. The cost of insuring corporate and sovereign bonds in Asia from non-payment was poised for the lowest since Oct. 31. The won and ringgit each gained 0.2 percent. Oil lost 0.3 percent as silver and copper fell at least 0.3 percent.</p><br /><p>Chinese leaders pledged to allow more private investment in state-controlled industries, loosen the nation's one-child policy and expand farmers' land rights, as data today showed new home prices rose in 69 of 70 cities in October. New York Federal Reserve Bank President William C. Dudley is scheduled to appear today, after Janet Yellen, the nominee for chairman, said last week she wants to maintain the central bank's record stimulus program until the U.S. economy improves.</p><br /><p>'The initial reaction to the Chinese communication was a negative one but as we're getting more detail, it looks like this is a revolutionary change,' Nader Naeimi, the Sydney-based head of dynamic asset allocation at AMP Capital Investors Ltd., which manages $131 billion, told Bloomberg Television. 'We're starting to get optimism coming through the market. The turnaround in sentiment and the improving macro data should push the equity market higher into 2014.'</p><br />China Reforms<br /><p>Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index jumped 2.2 percent after the measure rallied 1.7 percent on Nov. 15, the most since Oct. 30. The Hong Kong China Enterprises Index surged 4.3 percent while the Shanghai Composite Index advanced 1.4 percent and the CSI 300 Index gained 1.5 percent.</p><br /><p>Policy makers in China post the Communist Party plenum signaled a bigger focus on fiscal concerns, with local governments to be allowed to sell debt and officials to be rated on measures including borrowing levels. Extra land rights for farmers also featured in the reform package.</p><br /><p>The Topix climbed 0.4 percent, set for an almost six-month high, while South Korea's Kospi gained 0.3 percent, rising for a third day. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Index (AS51) dropped 0.3 percent as local banks retreated.</p><br /><p>Thailand's SET Index (SET) gained 0.4 percent even after data showed the economy grew less than analysts estimated last quarter on weaker exports and lower consumption and investment. Indonesia's Jakarta Composite Index climbed 1.2 percent, while shares in Taiwan, Vietnam and the Philippines also increased.</p><br />Credit Risk<br /><p>The Markit iTraxx Asia index of 40 investment-grade borrowers outside Japan fell 1 basis point to 132 basis points as of 8:23 a.m. in Hong Kong, Australia & New Zealand Banking Group Ltd. prices show.</p><br /><p>Boston Fed President Eric Rosengren is scheduled to speak in Abu Dhabi today. Other Fed speakers today include Charles Plosser of the Philadelphia Fed, and Narayan Kocherlakota, president of the Fed Bank of Minneapolis. Yellen, currently Fed vice chairman, said during her confirmation hearing before the Senate Banking Committee last week that it's important policy makers don't cut support for the U.S. economy too soon given the limited range of tools available to the central bank, which has to promote a 'very strong recovery.'</p><br /><p>The Federal Open Market Committee probably will wait to taper its bond buying to $70 billion at its March 18-19 meeting, from the current pace of $85 billion a month, according to the median estimate of 32 economists in a Nov. 8 Bloomberg survey.</p><br />Won, Ringgit<br /><p>The won climbed 0.2 percent to 1,061.44 per dollar, set for its strongest close since Nov. 7. The Bank of Korea reported a 1.4 percent drop in producer prices in October from a year earlier, the 13th straight month of declines, a report today showed.</p><br /><p>The ringgit gained 0.2 percent to 3.1946 against the greenback, climbing for a third day. Data last week showed Malaysia's economy grew 5 percent last quarter year-on-year, exceeding all but three estimates in a Bloomberg poll.</p><br /><p>The Bloomberg's U.S. Dollar Index, which monitors the greenback against 10 major counterparts, eased 0.1 percent to 1,016.14 after capping the biggest weekly drop in a month. The yen traded at 100.17 per dollar after touching 100.44 last week, the weakest since Sept. 11, and was at 135.15 per euro from 135.21 at the end of last week.</p><br />Oil, Gas<br /><p>The S&P GSCI index of commodities traded at 616.41 from 616.92 on Nov. 15, when the gauge capped a 1.1 percent weekly gain, the the first such increase in a month. Natural gas rose for a third day on forecasts weather in the U.S. will be colder than usual, boosting demand for heating. Futures in New York increased 0.5 percent after surging 2.8 percent last week.</p><br /><p>West Texas Intermediate crude retreated to $93.60 a barrel as Saudi Arabia, the world's largest crude producer, exported the most oil in eight years. WTI dropped 0.8 percent last week, its sixth weekly decline and the longest stretch of weekly losses since 1998.</p><br /><p>Palladium lost 0.3 percent to $731.10 an ounce after reaching a one-month low of $722.55 on Nov. 15. Silver slipped 0.4 percent to $20.7215 an ounce, and gold dropped 0.2 percent, snapping three days of gains.</p><br /><p>Copper for delivery in three months fell for the first time in three days, losing 0.3 percent to $6,991.00 a metric ton, as spending on China's power plants and electricity grid slowed.
