But the treaty was necessary for a reason. Furthermore, the Treaty has undergone revision in order to maintain peace in an ever-evolving international environment. </div><div class="style3" style="text-align: justify;">The initial reason for an Antarctic Treaty was the overlapping claims of seven nations, BRITAIN, FRANCE, DENMARK, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, CHILE and ARGENTINA to ANTARCTICA. War was inevitable when three countries claimed the same slice of the continent. The unknown value of the territory made the grab for territory even more contentious. </div><div class="style3" style="text-align: justify;"><br /><span class="style8"><span style="color: red;"></span></span><span style="color: red;"></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="style3" style="text-align: justify;">The ANTARCTIC TREATY rectified this situation by refuting all territorial claims to ANTARCTICA. However, this possibility still remains. <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">The seven nations, although all original signatories of the Treaty, still nominally claim their sovereign territories</b>. Furthermore, the UNITED STATES and RUSSIA, should the treaty structure fail, <b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">reserve the right to acquire territory</b>. Hence, the infrastructure that supports the Treaty, and the additions and allow it to remain flexible become even more important. </div><div class="style3" style="text-align: justify;"></div><div class="style3" style="text-align: justify;">The next test for ANTARCTIC came in 1988, when an addition to the Treaty was proposed to regulate mining in ANTARCTICA. It was believed that oil reserves, as well as natural gas may be trapped underneath the eternal tundra and ice that covers the continent. Plans were made to enforce "safe" mining techniques, and study the environmental impacts mining had on the rare ecosystem.<br /></div><div class="style3" style="text-align: justify;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="style3" style="text-align: justify;">International outrage over the proposal was so strong, that many governments began to change their minds over the initiative. FRANCE and AUSTRALIA began to echo calls from other nations to make ANTARCTIC a global park. Nations in the UN argued that the environmental problems that ANTARCTIC would face would eventually face the world. When the initiative came to a vote, it was defeated. Instead, the consultative nations of the ANTARCTIC TREATY decided on the Protocol on Environmental Protection to the ANTARCTIC TREATY, commonly known as the MADRID PROTOCOL, in 1990. The Protocol first and foremost establishes ANTARCTICA as a natural reserve. Furthermore, it prohibits mining, and establishes a system for getting new scientific research approved by the Secretariat for international approval.<br /></div><div class="style3" style="text-align: justify;"></div><div class="style3" style="text-align: justify;">One perpetual problem the Treaty faces is exclusivity. The Treaty precludes from consultative status (or voting status) any nations that do not have an on-going scientific program in ANTARCTICA. Repeated calls in the General Assembly have yet to lead to an opening up of the treaty. Despite the allowance of the UNEP to observe, poorer nations are being secluded from decision making on ANTARCTIC based on their poverty. ANTARCTIC cannot become a "global park" unless the entire globe is allowed to participate. In short, since what happens in ANTARCTICA does not stay in ANTARCTICA, these nations feel it is imperative that they should be allowed a say in the decisions that ultimately affect everyone. It is this dispute that puts the most pressure on the framework of Antarctica, and prevents other areas from being designated as an international territory. </div></div>

These will be shared on a website which is in the process of being created. This will enable users to upload and share versions of the stories in their local languages, providing numbers of stories in a range of languages way beyond the scope of conventional publishing.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In this way we aim to provide African children with sufficient familiar language stories for enjoyable reading practice to create a firm basis for literacy development.  </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The initial pilot will take place in South Africa, Kenya and Uganda.</span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><b>The initial workshop </b></span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">An initial workshop was held  on 10th November 2012 to explore the key issues before starting the project. Thinking about how nice it would be to have a place for the girls to sit and put on their shoes (and put them away when they get home of course - yeah right). We fall to make someone’s wish come true.” </b></i>What kind of asshole hopes someone falls? Oh God these drive me so fucking crazy! <o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b><i>"If you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best."</i><o:p></o:p></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b><br /></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i><b>“If they don’t appreciate you, they don’t deserve you.” <o:p></o:p></b></i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b><br /></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i><b>“A woman who doesn’t ask for anything deserves everything.”<o:p></o:p></b></i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b><br /></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b><i>“If you still carry her bags, open the door for her, tell her she’s beautiful and show her respect, you’re a REAL MAN.” </i><o:p></o:p></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b><br /></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i><b>“Either you treat your girl right or sit back and watch someone else do it.” </b><o:p></o:p></i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">And on and on and on! Holy moly people! Enough with this crap! You know why these piss me off so much? No, not because they’re true, but because they present things like “love and respect” as something ONLY women deserve. There is no acknowledgement that love and respect are two-way streets. You have to give to get, ya know? <o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">If a guy posts a satirical “<a href="http://news-these-days.blogspot.com/2011/10/men-get-screwed-and-women-are-liars.html" target="_blank">Men get Screwed and Women are Liars</a>” he gets crushed with comments and emails calling him a sexist and misogynist and worse. However, if a woman were to post a “Women get Screwed and Men are Liars” article she would be celebrated. Mommy Bloggers love to post articles about how horrible their husbands are and how terrible they get treated by their husbands and all that. What happens when they do that? Everyone goes to the comment section to trash the hell out of a man they’ve never met. Everyone just takes the Mommy Blogger’s word for it. <o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">The truth is there are a lot of really shitty guys out there who treat their girlfriends and wives like absolute crap. Those are the guys that have a line of women chasing after them. Also, there are a lot of really good, decent, loving and respectful guys out there. Those are the ones women mock and dismiss with a chuckle and wave of their hand. <o:p></o:p></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal">Okay, I don’t know where the previous paragraph came from. Anyway, my point here is, and I do have one, that maybe if we focused on treating others with the love and respect THEY deserve, we’ll find we get the love and respect we keep DEMANDING. Maybe?
