orange = Daughtry, dk blue = Colton, red = Scotty
The same three male American Idols remain on the BillBoard 200 album chart this week, but I was surprised to see the order of the three albums had changed. This week Colton Dixon's "The Messenger" (dark blue line) lands at #81, whereas Scotty McCreery's "See You Tonight" (red line) slips to #146 in its 15th week on the chart with 3,000 in sales (192K total). The top selling Idol this week (and for the past four weeks now) is Daughtry's "Baptized" (orange line near the bottom) which holds steady at #73, barely budging from #70 last week. I modified my chart above to now just cover the 15 week period since "See You Tonight" was released. Since then only three new Idol albums debuted, "Baptized" (now in its 10th week), Kellie Picker's "The Woman I Am" (purple line), and Kelly Clarkson's "Wrapped in Red" (dark green line) starting at #3. Kelly had nine straight strong weeks in the top 10 before disappearing come January, and Carrie Underwood (light blue line) also had strong sales of both "Blown Away" and her NBC "Sound of Music" soundtrack during the holiday sales period. I believe her "Sound of Music" album debuted somewhere in there too, but that album should not really count since by the end of December "Blown Away" was outselling it again.

Now that January is over it is almost time for the latest winner to release her new album. Candice Glover's "Music Speaks" is scheduled to be released on February 18. It will be interesting to see how well it does. Her single, "Cried", continues to move on the Adult R&B chart, but that is not the largest of markets.
