<a href="http://forwardobservermagazine.com/">Go take a look-see at the preview.</a><br /><br />I'm impressed.<br /><br />I liked what I saw of the III Magazine but this looks to be even better, although only quarterly.<br /><br /><a href="http://guerrillamerica.com/2014/01/forward-observer/">It absolutely deserves  a shout out and our support</a>.<br /><br /><blockquote>III Magazine may not go away entirely, but I am parting ways with it.  Next month we’ll make it official that I’ll be the proud publisher of Forward Observer.  FO will do its share of preaching, but it will accomplish something that we weren’t able to with III Magazine.  I’d like to make Forward Observer the flagship of the ‘outreach armada’.  We’ve assembled an incredible lineup of writers and staff with backgrounds in special operations and intelligence.  Frankly, it’s a sizable chunk of the FreeFor Who’s Who?  It’s our intention to reach out to the veteran community and encourage their participation in resistance to tyranny.  We’re failing if our movement isn’t growing, not just in terms of bodies but in terms of institutional and experiential knowledge.<br /><br />FO is just another cog in the FreeFor wheel, but I think it’s a critical one.  We’re evolving.  We won’t just stop at recruiting veterans, but we’ll try to reach the mainstream of closely-aligned movements, and let the magazine really do some talking.  We ultimately chose Forward Observer as our brand because we absolutely have to be ‘out front’, conducting reconnaissance on the future, taking account of current and future threats within Liberty’s battlespace. I serve it in late autumn and winter, using up all the sturdy  root vegetables we keep in cold storage.  I bake a loaf of no-knead sourdough, open up a jar of homemade sauerkraut and ladle lentil stew into my family’s waiting bowls.  I drizzle a bit of olive oil over my stew and toss in a splash of balsamic vinegar, which bring a bit of their brightness to the stew’s humble earthiness.</span><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><span style="font-size: large;">Lentil stew is peasant food – simple, satisfying and inexpensive. On the northwest corner of Lexington Avenue and East 30th Street sits an impressive temple-like building that may look familiar to some TV watchers. The building is portrayed as <a href="http://personofinterest.wikia.com/wiki/The_Library">the library of Finch</a> on <i>Person of Interest</i>, but well before this fictional existence the building served as the home for the <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/17/realestate/17scap.html">New York School of Applied Design for Women</a>. Designed for the school by one of its professors, Harvey Wiley Corbett, the building was completed in 1908 and designated a NYC landmark in 1977. The school, which eventually became the Pratt-New York Phoenix School of Design, sold the building to Touro College in 1991, who in turned sold the building in 2006. They are not too tall nor too shallow to not comply with code, but they feel like they vary from one step to the next, even if only a fraction of an inch. We use stairs so much that we become conditioned to their ADA-mandated sizes and the consistency from step to step, so much so that even the slightest departure from the norm is noticeable.<br /><br />Gins may not have survived long after the opening of DSM New York, but she's left something that hopefully will give shoppers something to think about and feel. Seeing some shoppers taking note of the stair and taking photos of each other inside of it on my visit confirmed that she created something special.

It is a disease that makes those of us who work in public health very nervous.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.464000701904297px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px;">The only real certainty is that there will be a flu season each winter. Other than that, there are many unknowns: When will it start? What strains will be circulating? Who will be at greatest risk? How severe will it be? How well will the vaccine work?</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.464000701904297px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px;">This year's flu season is now in full swing so we have some of the answers to such questions.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.464000701904297px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px;">We know that the number of flu cases started to spike first in the southeastern United States. Visits for flu-like illness started to rise in December and have continued to rise and spread. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, <a href="http://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/" style="color: #005490; text-decoration: none;">20 states have high levels of flu activity</a> and all regions of the country are now seeing flu cases. The website, Google flu trends, which tends to be more up to date, reports that <a href="http://www.google.org/flutrends/us/#US" style="color: #005490; text-decoration: none;">33 states are seeing high levels of flu</a>.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.464000701904297px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px;">More than 90 percent of disease is caused this year by the H1N1 strain of the flu virus. This is the same strain that also caused the so-called swine flu pandemic in 2009. It has been included in all flu vaccines since then.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.464000701904297px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px;">H1N1 tends to hit adults between the ages of 18 and 64 harder than other flu strains. But groups traditionally at high risk - the very young, the elderly, those with chronic diseases, pregnant women - haven't been spared.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.464000701904297px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px;">Although the flu season is in full swing, it often continues into March. It is too soon to know how severe this flu season will be, how long it will last and how well the vaccine will work. We can only tell these sorts of things when the flu season has ended.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.464000701904297px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px;">The best flu prevention? Get vaccinated. Flu vaccination is recommended for everyone older than 6 months. Getting vaccinated does two things: It reduces your chance of getting the flu and helps protect those around you from getting it by creating something called "herd immunity." This means that even those who don't get vaccinated are protected because the virus has fewer ways of spreading in a population of mostly vaccinated people.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.464000701904297px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px;">There are more vaccine choices this year than ever before. One shot will cover you for four strains of flu, rather than the usual three. There is a high-strength vaccine specially developed for the elderly, a group for whom standard vaccines have typically been insufficiently effective. There is a nasal spray vaccine for people 50 and younger. There is now even a vaccine made without the use of eggs for anyone with egg allergies.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.464000701904297px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px;">You can also prevent the spread of the flu by covering your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or with your elbow. Washing your hands frequently with soap and water for a full 20 seconds also helps gets rid of those viruses. If there's no sink around, alcohol-based hand sanitizer is a suitable substitute.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22.464000701904297px; margin-top: 11px; padding: 0px;">And if you're sick, stay home.
