Shot him in the throat! He whacked archenemy Galen, too! WTF?! Let me shut off the itals lock and recap the 8 biggest moments from the craziest episode of SOA yet.</p><br /><p><strong>VIDEO</strong> | Why Sons of Anarchy Can't Kill Off Tara</p><br /><p><strong>1. Jax Kills Galen</strong> Instead of turning his longtime Irish nemesis over to CCH Pounder, he shoots him (and a few of his cronies) to death - part one of an elaborate plan to get SAMCRO out of the gun business.</p><br /><p><strong>2. Jax Kills Clay</strong>Part 2 of said plan involves breaking Clay out of prison (that much we knew about), shooting him in the throat (um, didn't get the memo on that one), shooting him another dozen times in the chest (still surprised) and then zhuzhing the aforementioned crime scene to make it look like Clay killed Galen (it's called killing two birds with one stone, people). Oh, and all of this transpired in an airport hangar in front of Gemma, Nero and Tara.</p><br /><p><strong>3. Tara Clutches Jax's Hand</strong> After watching Jax gun down Clay once and for all - and overhearing his genuine desire to take SAMCRO legit - she grabs hold of his hand before exiting the hangar with Gemma and Nero. Jax later confesses to his estranged wife, 'I understand why you did everything you did. Bobby Is Shot</strong> Clay's prison break was not without its hiccups. For one, Bobby was shot multiple times by a sheriff's deputy while fleeing the scene (said sheriff's deputy was promptly run over and killed by Juice). Jax reluctantly reaches out to Tara (via Gemma) to work her doctor magic, leading to the episode's best line: 'So, what we just pretend nothing happened and I'm mob doctor again?!'</p><br /><p><strong>5. CCH Pounder Is Pissed</strong> Jax promised her Galen and his gun empire on a silver platter. Instead she got a 'stack of dead bodies.' As a result, the screwed-over DA decides to take Tara up on her offer to turn on SAMCRO in exchange for immunity and protection for her and her children. Tara - fresh off of touching Jax's hand - is in a less-desperate place now. But she's not opposed to it.She asks for 24 hours. Just enough time for her to...</p><br /><p><strong>6. ... Save Bobby...</strong> ... and collect a key piece of evidence in the process. Tara discretely pockets one of the bullets she removed from his chest - a bullet belonging to the now-dead sheriff's deputy. A bullet that would put SAMCRO at the scene of the crime. A bullet that could be her ticket to a new life. What will she do?!</p><br /><p><strong>7. Wayne Tells Gemma He Loves Her</strong> 'I'm in love with you,' he quickly clarifies, rendering Gemma speechless.</p><br /><p><strong>8. Gemma Proposes to Nero</strong> Sort of. Crucial Obamacare financial technology still unfinished: U.S. official [ BeritaTerkini ]

<div id="yom-ad-LREC" class="yom-ad yom-ad-LREC"> <center> <div id="yom-ad-LREC-iframe" class="yom-ad"></div> </center> </div> <p><br></p> <p>By David Morgan</p> <div class="body-slot-mod"> <div class="yom-remote"> <div class="yom-loading" id="mediacontentrelatedstory_container"></div> </div> </div> <p>WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Up to 40 percent of the technology needed to run the new Obamacare health insurance marketplace has not yet been built and will not be ready when insurance companies start sending in bills when coverage begins January 1, the project manager of HealthCare.gov told the U.S. Congress on Tuesday.</p> <p>The missing “back-end” technology may not be ready until mid-January, Henry Chao, deputy chief information officer for Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, told a House of Representatives oversight subcommittee.</p> <p>If the business functions are not in place on time, it could create havoc with a system through which billions of dollars in federal tax money will flow to subsidize coverage for consumers who otherwise could not afford it, insurance industry officials said. The first payments are due in mid- to late January.</p> <p>The disclosure added to an atmosphere of uncertainty that has engulfed President Barack Obama’s signature domestic policy achievement since HealthCare.gov crashed soon after its October 1 launch.</p> <p>The absence of the back-end technology behind healthcare marketplaces that have sprung up in all 50 states and the District of Columbia does not prevent consumers from enrolling for coverage through market portals such as HealthCare.gov.</p> <p>Administration officials said the technology was set aside in the run-up to Obamacare’s October 1 rollout, so that CMS could concentrate on the consumer features of the troubled federal website, HealthCare.gov.</p> <p>Obama’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires most Americans to be at least enrolled in health coverage by March 31 or pay a penalty.</p> <p>CMS spokeswoman Julie Bataille told reporters that technology for those functions would not be needed until January.</p> <p>“The back-end financial management systems are something that we do not believe are essential until 2014 and we’ll roll those out in those timeframes,” Bataille said on a conference call with reporters.</p> <p>But a program needed to confirm the identities, subsidy levels and coverage choices of individual plan enrollees would have to be in place in December, if coverage is to begin on time on January 1, said an insurance industry official who asked not to be named.</p> <p>A CMS official warned as early as July that the financial management project was short staffed, weeks behind schedule and the target of a bureaucratic tug-of-war over resources and priorities, according to internal CMS emails.</p> <p>“The upshot is that the (financial management) build appears to be way off track and getting worse,” said a July 8 email from Jeffrey Grant of the CMS unit, Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight.</p> <p>The document, provided by Republican investigators in Congress, said staff had been transferred to other projects leaving only one highly skilled developer.</p> <p>(Reporting by David Morgan; Additional reporting by Susan Heavey; Editing by Sandra Maler, Fred Barbash and Lisa Shumaker)</p> <ul id="topics" class="hidden"> <li>Finance</li> <li>Insurance</li> <li>Barack Obama</li> <li>technology</li> </ul><p></p> //<!--[CDATA[ jQuery(".gmframe").load(function (){jQuery(this).remove();}); //]]--> <br><br>

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><img src="http://s1.reutersmedia.net/resources/r/?m=02&d=20131120&t=2&i=813380815&w=460&fh=&fw=&ll=&pl=&r=CBRE9AJ001D00" width="600"/><br /><p>Credit: Reuters/Issei Kato</p><br /><p>A man rides a bicycle past containers at a port in Tokyo October 21, 2013.</p><br /><p>The 18.6 percent increase in exports in the year to October blew past the median market forecast for a 16.5 percent rise and accelerated from a 11.5 percent gain in September, data by the Ministry of Finance showed on Wednesday.</p><br /><p>Significantly, exports also rebounded in volume terms, rising 4.4 percent from a year earlier, in a sign the global economy is gradually picking up mainly on strength in advanced nations.</p><br /><p>Sluggish exports have been a source of concern for policymakers as shipment volume has struggled to pick up despite a weak yen this year due to slowdown in emerging economies, which faced capital outflows on expectations the U.S. Federal Reserve would soon rollback its massive monetary stimulus.</p><br /><p>While the yen has fallen around 14 percent against the dollar in 2013, exports growth has largely disappointed early expectations.</p><br /><p>The Japanese economy has been humming along nicely this year on the back of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's massive monetary and fiscal expansionary policies, dubbed Abenomics. Still, headwinds from weak capital spending and depressed global demand have somewhat clouded the outlook.</p><br /><p>The October data should provide some relief for the government, which is hoping a recovery in overseas demand will cushion the blow from a sales tax hike next April, which could crimp private consumption</p><br /><p>'U.S. private-sector demand remains strong and European economies appear to be bottoming out. If advanced economies recover, Japanese exports can rise more,' said Takeshi Minami, chief economist at Norinchukin Research Institute in Tokyo.</p><br /><p>The volume of exports to the United States and European Union grew 5.3 percent and 8.0 percent year-on-year in October respectively, while Asia-bound shipments rose just 2.0 percent, highlighting a two-track recovery in the global economy.</p><br /><p>Car shipments rocketed 31.3 percent on-year in October, making the biggest contribution to the value of exports in the month, while they also rose a strong 7.5 percent in volume terms.</p><br /><p>Highlighting brisk demand in the United States, Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) is racking up strong sales in a U.S. market and closing in on a record profit set before the Lehman crisis, while reaping the benefits of a weak yen that has boosted its profit margins.</p><br /><p>On a seasonally adjusted basis, exports rose 1.5 percent in October from the previous month.</p><br /><p>TRADE DEFICIT</p><br /><p>Soft exports -- particularly to emerging economies -- have been a key concern for Bank of Japan policymakers, who meet on Wednesday and Thursday to discuss monetary policy and the economic outlook. The bank is widely expected to keep monetary settings unchanged.</p><br /><p>The Japanese economy, the fastest growing in the developed world this year, slowed in July-September from the previous quarter as domestic private demand moderated and exports weakened.</p><br /><p>Growth is expected to accelerate again in the current quarter helped by a recovery in exports as well as brisk private consumption ahead of the sales tax hike.</p><br /><p>Sparking inflation and putting the economy on a sustainable footing over the over run is Abenomics' ultimate goal, and analysts expect a healthy global economy to ease the path ahead.</p><br /><p>Recovering demand for Japanese goods would also help address another concern -- persistent red ink in the trade balance.</p><br /><p>The deficits have raised concerns about Japan's ability to finance its debt in the long run, as they weigh on the country's balance of payment and add to strains caused by its debt burden, the worst among industrial nations.</p><br /><p>Japan logged a trade deficit of 1.09 trillion yen ($11 billion) in October, a record for the month, more than a median forecast of 813.5 billion yen, as imports rose 26.1 percent on the back of expensive fuel purchases to make up for nuclear plants shuttered since the 2011 Fukushima disaster.</p><br /><p>The October imports was also bumped up by a 67.8 percent spike in crude oil imports, which reflected a big drop a year before due to an oil tax hike aimed at curbing greenhouse gas emissions, finance ministry officials said.</p><br /><p>($1 = 100.2050 Japanese yen)</p><br /><p>(Writing by Leika Kihara and Tetsushi Kajimoto; Editing by Shri Navaratnam)</p><br /></div>

On Sunday, it said it was ready to send rescue and medical teams.</p> <p>In contrast, the United States has mobilized about 50 ships and aircraft in the disaster zone with helicopters delivering supplies from an aircraft carrier. She wanted to do something different and shorter. We wanted a bang, so I put a lot more texture throughout the cut to give it a lot of movement and make it more playful and versatile,” he explained, emphasizing that he wanted to make sure the cut felt feminine and soft, as well.</p> <p>From the looks of things on her Instagram posts, he achieved just that!</p> <p>In fact, Coco’s cool cut looks an awful like (you guessed it!)  <strong>Justin Bieber</strong>‘s signature ‘do, and the model even posted a fun video of her singing  the teen heartthrob’s hit song, “Baby”, while showing off her freshly groomed hair.</p> <p>Too cute!</p> <p><strong>NEWS: Celebrity hair transformations</strong></p> <p>“The Justin Bieber reference is just kind of funny…we were joking about it in the salon! She loves to play with her hair back and forth and back and forth,” the hair guru, who used Oribe Fiber Groom and hairspray on her, explained.</p> <p>“She is a very down-to-earth girl. She’s very normal and fun and short hair just works on her. <p><cite class="byline vcard"><span class="provider org">Press Association</span> – </cite></p> <div class="yom-mod yom-art-content" id="mediaarticlebody"> <div class="bd"> <p class="first">Some manufacturers are charging more than a 1,000% mark-up for extra storage space on tablet computers, according to a Which? investigation.</p> <p>Consumers opting for a 32GB iPad Air will have to pay £80 more than they would for the 16GB version, despite it costing Apple less than £6 to buy the additional memory at market prices, the watchdog claims.</p> <p>It said tablet manufacturers can buy Flash memory storage at a market price of £5.95 for 16GB, yet Google charges an extra £70 to increase the memory on its Nexus 10 from 16GB to 32GB and Amazon charges £40 for the same storage increase on its Kindle Fire HDX 8.9.</p> <p>It described the mark-ups as “outrageous” and advised potential customers to buy a tablet with an SD or microSD slot and add a memory card for a fraction of the cost.</p> <p>The report said: “The best thing about using a tablet is filling it with apps, songs and videos that you love. But all of this content gobbles up storage space fast, and tablets use Flash memory that’s limited in size.</p> <p>“Unlike with PCs, tablet storage is difficult to upgrade after you’ve purchased your model. That’s because most tablet bodies are sealed and don’t let you install further hardware.”</p> <p>Which? also found that the true amount of storage space is not the same as advertised because operating systems and built-in apps take up space.</p> <p>It found just 10GB was left available for the customer’s songs, apps and photos on a 16GB Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.</p> <p>Ben Miles of Chillbast, a UK-based computer manufacturer which buys its Flash memory from some of the same suppliers who make the Flash storage components found in tablets, told Which?: “16GB of Flash memory is mind-numbingly cheap now.</p> <p>“As a general rule, for manufacturers like ourselves, Flash costs less than 40p per GB, so for companies to charge so much for an extra 16GB seems scandalous.</p> <p>“The difference in cost between manufacturing a product with 16GB and 32GB of memory would probably equate to less than 10 US dollars (£6).”</p> <p>Which? editor Richard Headland said: “With tablets in demand this Christmas, buyers will be shocked to discover what a raw deal they’re getting on built-in memory.</p> <p>“If you want the best value storage, then buy a tablet with a SD or microSD slot and add a memory card for a fraction of the cost.”</p> <p>Apple and Google declined to comment on the Which? report.</p> <p>Samsung told Which?: “It is Samsung policy to provide the most reasonable market price to customers.”</p> <p></p> </div> </div> //<!--[CDATA[ jQuery(".gmframe").load(function (){jQuery(this).remove();}); //]]--> <br><br>

Signs of ‘sudden’ cardiac death may come weeks before: study [ BeritaTerkini ]

<div id="yom-ad-LREC" class="yom-ad yom-ad-LREC"> <center> <div id="yom-ad-LREC-iframe" class="yom-ad"></div> </center> </div> <p><br></p> <p>By Ransdell Pierson and Bill Berkrot</p> <div class="body-slot-mod"> <div class="yom-remote"> <div class="yom-loading" id="mediacontentrelatedstory_container"></div> </div> </div> <p>(Reuters) – Signs of approaching “sudden” cardiac arrest, an electrical malfunction that stops the heart, usually appear at least a month ahead of time, according to a study of middle-age men in Portland, Oregon.</p> <p>“We’re looking at how to identify the Tim Russerts and Jim Gandolfinis – middle aged men in their 50s who drop dead and we don’t have enough information why,” said Sumeet Chugh, senior author of the study and associate director for genomic cardiology at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute in Los Angeles.</p> <p>Some 360,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur each year in the United States, largely involving middle-aged men, with only 9.5 percent surviving, according to the American Heart Association.</p> <p>Patients can survive if they are given cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) immediately and their hearts are jolted back into normal rhythm with a defibrillator.</p> <p>Earlier clinical trials have focused only on symptoms or warnings signs within an hour of such attacks. But Chugh’s study set out to determine whether signs and symptoms occurred as much as a month before sudden cardiac arrests.</p> <p>Researchers went back and examined medical records of men 35 to 65 years old after they had out-of-hospital attacks. In addition, paramedics reaching the scene of fatal attacks asked family members what signs and symptoms the patient may have had in preceding weeks.</p> <p>Among 567 men who had “sudden” arrests, researchers determined 53 percent had symptoms beforehand. Among those with symptoms, 56 had chest pain, 13 percent had shortness of breath and 4 percent had dizziness, fainting or palpitations.</p> <p>About 80 percent of symptoms happened between four weeks and one hour before the cardiac arrest, researchers said. And although most men had coronary artery disease, just half had been tested for it before their attacks.</p> <p>“The findings were entirely unexpected,” Chugh said. “We never thought more than half of these middle-aged men would have had warning signs so long before their cardiac arrests. Previously we thought most people don’t have symptoms so we can’t do anything about it.”</p> <p>Chugh said most people who have the same kinds of symptoms don’t go on to have cardiac arrests.</p> <p>“Even so, they should seek medical care,” he said. “The message here is, if you have these signs or symptoms, please don’t ignore them: seek healthcare.”</p> <p>Chugh said he and his colleagues are also attempting to identify people at risk by comparing biologies of those that have had sudden cardiac arrests with sample populations in Portland that have never had cardiac arrests.</p> <p>The new findings, from the 11-year-old “Oregon Sudden Unexpected Death Study,” were presented on Tuesday at the annual scientific sessions of the American Heart Association being held in Dallas.</p> <p>The researchers are conducting similar studies among women. <div id="yom-ad-LREC" class="yom-ad yom-ad-LREC"> <center> <div id="yom-ad-LREC-iframe" class="yom-ad"></div> </center> </div> <p><br></p> <p>By Toni Clarke</p> <div class="body-slot-mod"> <div class="yom-remote"> <div class="yom-loading" id="mediacontentrelatedstory_container"></div> </div> </div> <p>(Reuters) – An experimental drug to treat Morquio A Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that causes skeletal malformation and a variety of related lung, eye, ear and heart problems, should be approved, an advisory panel to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration concluded on Tuesday.</p> <p>The 21-member panel voted overwhelmingly in favor of approval, saying the benefits of the drug, Vimizim, which is made by BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc, outweigh its risks. The FDA is not obliged to follow the recommendations of its advisory panels but typically does so.</p> <p>Morquio A Syndrome is characterized by a deficiency of an enzyme known as N-acetylgalactosamine-6-sulfatase, which causes excessive storage in the body of long chains of sugars known as glycosaminoglycans.</p> <p>This build-up can lead to short stature and joint abnormalities that limit mobility and endurance. The disease can also cause hearing loss, eye problems and heart disease. Symptoms often appear before the age of five.</p> <p>Children who took the drug during clinical testing saw an improvement in energy and endurance, allowing them to better socialize, learn and function independently, families who testified before the panel said.</p> <p>The main goal of the trial was to improve symptoms as measured by a six-minute walk test. A secondary goal was change measured by a three-minute stair climb test.</p> <p>After 24 weeks of treatment with the drug, Vimizim increased patients’ six-minute walk distance by 22.5 meters compared with a placebo, a benefit the FDA reviewers called “modest.” There was no statistically meaningful improvement in the stair climb test.</p> <p>Nonetheless, the panel decided that the walk test probably captured only a portion of the benefits conferred by the drugs, though the exact nature of the additional benefits and their magnitude remain unclear.</p> <p>Vimizim, also known as elosulfase alfa, is expected to generate sales of $ 532 million by 2018 if approved, according to the average estimate of eight analysts polled by Thomson Reuters.</p> <p>Morquio A Syndrome is one of a group of lysosomal storage disorders known as mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS). Lysosomal storage disorders are typically chronic and progressive, and involve multiple organs of the body.</p> <p>Vimizim has been given “orphan drug” status by the FDA, which means it will receive seven years of market exclusivity if approved. An orphan drug treats diseases that affect fewer than 200,000 patients.</p> <p>The main safety concerns of the drug relate to anaphylaxis and allergic reactions.
