Okay, so a guy hoping to add to his, uh, measurements, wouldn’t actually be able to observe any difference with a ruler. Erectile dysfunction drugs don’t make your torque wrench longer. They just make it more eager to spring into action, by increasing blood flow via vasodilation. The drug doesn’t just target a man’s nether lands, either: the vessel dilating effect has been used to treat newborns with pulmonary hypertension, increasing blood flow to the lungs. <div class="inset_placeholder" id="inset_placeholder_5846896"></div> But it’s not hard to imagine how placebo effect mixed with a covert dose of little blue pill could make a cock-conscious dude who’d just spent $ 19.99 plus shipping and handling think he’d won the pipe lottery. Hey, don’t question a good thing, right? Unfortunately, bad things can happen when you don’t know which prescription-strength drugs you’re taking. Recent tragedies involving Infants’ and Children’s Tylenol show the deadly side of unintended dosing. And anyone who’s squirmed through a Cialis commercial knows that even under a doctor’s supervision, prescription ED drugs can have some breathtaking side effects. The FDA points out that sildenafil interacts with common blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes drugs, and mixing the two can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure (remember, this drug dilates everything, not just the junk region). And since the knockoffs aren’t labeled, you’ll never really know what you’re taking. <div class="inset_placeholder" id="inset_placeholder_471809744"></div> So fellas (yeah? fellas! yeah?), stay away from “natural male enhancement” pills in general, but especially now. Sam Thompson also scored 13, while Aaron Craft added 10 for the Buckeyes (3-0), who ended the Golden Eagles' 27-game home winning streak, second-longest in the nation. Ohio State slowly took control with a 12-4 run to open the second half, which included six points from Scott. The 6-foot-1 guard found gaps in Marquette's interior defense, then extended the lead to 44-28 with 6:31 left on a layup on the break. Todd Mayo led Marquette (2-1) with 11 points. It was the school's first loss at the Bradley Center since Vanderbilt beat the Golden Eagles 74-57 on Dec. 29, 2011. Only South Dakota State (30) had a longer winning streak in the country entering Saturday. It certainly didn't help that the Golden Eagles had 20 turnovers and shot just 10 of 53 (19 percent) for the afternoon, including 4 of 24 (17 percent) in the second half. Scott and Craft had all the fun on Marquette's home floor. Tied at 19 at halftime, the game opened up with Ohio State finally finding room inside to maneuver. Center Amir Williams started the spurt by muscling out Chris Otule in the post for a basket. Then Williams sealed off Otule in the lane to allow Scott to go in for an uncontested layup. After forcing a steal of Jake Thomas, Scott sped down the court and drew a foul on a stutter-step jumper. Lenzelle Smith Jr. lowered his head driving the baseline and flipped up a tough shot around Marquette's big men for a 31-23 lead with 16:21 left. Coach Buzz Williams called a timeout that briefly settled his team before the Buckeyes pulled away again. Ohio State had just three turnovers in the second half to 10 for the Golden Eagles, who are breaking in a new backcourt with last year's starting trio of Vander Blue, Junior Cadougan and Trent Lockett all gone. Whatever the reason, Ohio State found its rhythm on the fastbreak, with a 16-0 edge, including 12-0 in the second half. The bruising first half featured tussles under the bucket, plenty of rebounds and lots of missed shots. The teams combined to shoot 13 of 55 in a half that ended in a 19-all tie on Buckeye forward Marc Loving's 3 from the corner with 7 seconds left. <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'>Yesterday, former Anonymous, Lulzsec, and Antisec hacker Jeremy Hammond (Anarchaos) was sentenced to 10 years, after pleading guilty to the hacking of Strator, a global private intelligence company. Upon the objections of federal prosecutors, Jude Loretta Preska struck portions of Hammond's sentencing statement. These stricken portions later surfaced on the internet some time after the sentencing. In them, Hammond suggests the federal government supplied Hammond and other hackers with foreign government targets. In his statement, Hammond claimed Sabu supplied 'lists of targets that were vulnerable to 'zero day exploits''-that is, previously unknown security holes. He also emphasized that pilfered files (including the Stratfor data) were stored on Sabu's server, which was operated by the FBI. 'At [Sabu's] request, these websites were broken into, their emails and databases were uploaded to Sabu's FBI server, and the password information and the location of root backdoors were supplied,' stated Hammond to the court. 'These intrusions took place in January/February of 2012 and affected over 2000 domains, including numerous foreign government websites in Brazil, Turkey, Syria, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Nigeria, Iran, Slovenia, Greece, Pakistan, and others.' Looking at that list, all but Puerto Rico and perhaps Slovenia are strategic US targets for one reason or another. Brazil is increasingly become a rival economic competitor in the Western hemisphere; Turkey is a bulwark against Iran and other volatile Islamic dictatorships; hacking Syrian government websites is self-evident (more on that below); and so on. Hammond recollected the compromised websites being 'the official website of the Governor of Puerto Rico, the Internal Affairs Division of the Military Police of Brazil, the Official Website of the Crown Prince of Kuwait, the Tax Department of Turkey, the Iranian Academic Center for Education and Cultural Research, the Polish Embassy in the UK, and the Ministry of Electricity of Iraq.' Syria's inclusion on this list should raise eyebrows. It's easy to forget that with 2013 being a year of such escalating civil war bloodshed, Syria was already a target for hackers several years prior. And remember that in 2011 Anonymous made a lot of noise about hacking Syria's Ministry of Defense website. 'To the Syrian people: The world stands with you against the brutal regime of Bashar Al-Assad,' read Anonymous's message in both English and Arabic. ' ... To the Syrian military: You are responsible for protecting the Syrian people, and anyone who orders you to kill women, children, and the elderly deserves to be tried for treason. No outside enemy could do as much damage to Syria as Bashar Al-Assad has done. Defend your country - rise up against the regime!' <img src="http://deathandtaxesmag.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/jeremy-hammond-Free-Hammond-by-molly-crabapple-620x424-1.jpg" width="600"/>Free Hammond by Molly Crabapple Also recall that the Syrian Electronic Army formed in 2011 in response to these hacks, and didn't really hit its stride until 2012. According to Hammond, the FBI gained access to Syrian systems and data through the puppeteering of Sabu. 'Sabu ... infiltrated a group of hackers that had access to hundreds of Syrian systems including government institutions, banks, and ISPs,' Hammond stated. 'He logged several relevant IRC channels persistently asking for live access to mail systems and bank transfer details. The FBI took advantage of hackers who wanted to help support the Syrian people against the Assad regime, who instead unwittingly provided the U.S. government access to Syrian systems, undoubtedly supplying useful intelligence to the military and their buildup for war.' Hammond said that all of this can be 'easily confirmed by chat logs the government provided' to Anonymous; made possible, of course, by the federal government's discovery obligations in Hammond's case. 'However, the full extent of the FBI's abuses remains hidden,' stated Hammond, striking a rather ominous tone. 'Because I pled guilty, I do not have access to many documents that might have been provided to me in advance of trial, such as Sabu's communications with the FBI. In addition, the majority of the documents provided to me are under a 'protective order' which insulates this material from public scrutiny. As government transparency is an issue at the heart of my case, I ask that this evidence be made public. I believe the documents will show that the government's actions go way beyond catching hackers and stopping computer crimes.' Elsewhere in his sentencing statement, Hammond admitted he didn't how other data supplied to Sabu was used by the government. The hacker suggested, however, that the government's collection and use of this data should be investigated. 'The government celebrates my conviction and imprisonment, hoping that it will close the door on the full story,' Hammond added. 'I took responsibility for my actions, by pleading guilty, but when will the government be made to answer for its crimes?' If Hammond is right, then the FBI and, indeed, President Obama have some serious 'splaining to do. And the fact that portions of Hammond's statement were stricken by Judge Preska is also troubling. Even if Hammond were wrong about the FBI's feeding of targets to Sabu, the federal prosecutor's objections Hammond's accusations, allowed by Preska, is a vile form of censorship. </div>

The Yellow Dogs Open Up About Their Nightmare in Brooklyn The Brooklyn indie music community was shocked on Monday to learn of the brutal early-morning shooting that took the lives of two members of the dance-punk group, who had emigrated to the U.S. from Iran in 2011. Another Iranian musician, Ali Akbar Mohammadi Raffi, reportedly used a semi-automatic rifle to gun down guitarist Soroush Farazmand and his brother Arash, the band’s drummer, along with their friend Ali Eskandarian. Raffi then fatally shot himself in the head on the roof of the East Williamsburg building where the band lived.  “We were closer than brothers,” the Yellow Dogs’ lead singer, Siavash Karampour, recently told Rolling Stone of his departed bandmates. “I wish all this attention was just for a new release of an album. <div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'>(TRNS) - A Republican proposal to allow Americans with individual health insurance outside of the Obamacare marketplace to keep their plans - even if they don't meet new requirements established by the healthcare law - would cause healthcare costs to soar, according to a new report released today by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. From the group's report: By encouraging healthier people to remain in individual-market plans outside the new insurance marketplaces (also known as exchanges), the bill would make the pool of people enrolled in plans offered through the marketplaces sicker, on average, than under current law. That would raise marketplace premiums for coverage in 2015 and beyond (and possibly even for 2014), and could trigger sticker shock when the premiums for 2015 are announced next October. The higher premiums would, in turn, threaten the long-term viability of the marketplaces, potentially placing coverage at risk for millions of uninsured people who stand to gain coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The report also argues that the GOP measure would hinder the ACA's efforts at preventing insurers from discriminating against customers with certain conditions. The Upton bill would also seriously damage the ACA's major insurance-market reforms that take effect in 2014 by allowing the individual insurance market outside the marketplaces to continue virtually unchanged. For example, by grandfathering a swath of non-ACA-compliant plans, the bill would allow insurers to continue to offer individual-market health plans that don't include essential health benefits. Plans could continue to have coverage gaps such as lack of prescription drugs, maternity care, and mental health and substance abuse treatment, as they often do now. These plans also wouldn't have to cover preventive services at no cost to enrollees. And enrollees could continue facing high out-of-pocket charges even for covered benefits because the plans would not have to comply with the ACA caps on annual out-of-pocket costs. House Republican leaders, however, say that the bill is necessary to protect Americans against losing their current coverage and being forced to pay more for a policy offered on healthcare.gov or one of the 14 state-run exchanges. 'The legislation that we're bringing forward this week...will allow those Americans to keep the plans that they've been promised, it's as simple as that,' said Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers. 'People all across this country are being harmed by this law and it's time that we listen to the American people and take action that's going to help them...make sure that they do have affordable, quality healthcare.' The House is scheduled to vote on Rep. Upton's bill Friday. It should be noted that the legislation does not contain any mandates to insurance companies. But the question of when the Fed will slow its bond buys has been one of the biggest influences on the market lately. Investors have been bracing for anything that could reverse at the last minute the market's year-long rally, which saw the Dow and S&P 500 hit record highs again this week. The S&P 500 is up 26 percent this year and registered a sixth week of gains on Friday. Fed Vice Chair Janet Yellen, at her confirmation hearing to succeed Chairman Ben Bernanke, suggested any change to the Fed's accommodative policies was not imminent. That lifted stocks, since investors had speculated the Fed could reduce its bond-buying as early as December after robust data on U.S. payrolls and economic growth. As part of its quantitative easing, adopted more than four years ago, the Fed has been buying Treasuries and other bonds to keep interest rates low and promote growth. Continued stimulus and ultra-low interest rates have been a big part of the market's advance this year. While any change in that support is expected to be small at first, speculation over its start has caused much market turmoil. 'I'd be looking at those minutes for evidence that they're considering reducing the threshold for raising rates, and I would view that as a hint that they're considering restarting the tapering process,' said Barry Knapp, managing director of equity research at Barclays Capital in New York. The minutes released Wednesday will be from the Fed's October 29-30 meeting. Stocks fell after that Fed announcement, which removed a phrase expressing worries about credit conditions. Some investors interpreted that as a sign the Fed could begin tapering earlier than expected. Knapp said at this point he doesn't see any tapering by the Fed until next year, but, he said, 'We're marching toward an inevitable start to this process.' Retail sales data for October, also due Wednesday, could keep investors on edge given last month's partial U.S. government shutdown, which could affect the coming holiday shopping season. An earnings report from Macy's (M.N) this week 'was big,' said Eric Kuby, chief investment officer at North Star Investment Management Corp in Chicago. 'What people were worried about was the holiday. And now people are saying, 'Well, maybe the holiday is going to be OK.'' Besides Home Depot and Best Buy, results are also expected next week from retailer J.C. Penney (JCP.N), which is seen posting a loss, and from Lowe's Cos (LOW.N). Companies like J.C. Penney aside, consumer discretionary shares have led S&P 500 gains this year and are among the priciest in the index. The sector has a forward price-to-earnings ratio of about 18 while the P/E for the S&P 500 is 15, according to Thomson Reuters StarMine data. Next week also brings data on consumer and wholesale inflation. KEY LEVELS AHEAD If the rally goes on, indexes could soon be bumping up against some significant levels, at least psychologically: the Dow is nearing 16,000, while the S&P is just below 1,800 and the Nasdaq a little shy of 4,000. Analysts say, barring a big surprise from the Fed or the U.S. government, indexes look likely to stay on their upward trend for now. In addition, some investors could be on the sidelines waiting for an opportunity to come into the market, said Todd Salamone, director of research at Schaeffer's Investment Research. Some gains could come as a result of short-covering. 'Those playing on the short side of the market ... are experiencing serious pain. And therefore, when they're in a losing position, those are candidates for short-covering.' While the majority of phone customers are likely to stick with the contract formula, especially if they're on a family plan already, others are showing greater interest in no-contract commitments. Phone choice: A better spread If there's one poster phone for the no-contract experience, it's Google's Nexus 5. Made by LG, but sold off-contract in the US by Google through its Play Store and T-Mobile, the Nexus 5 loudly challenges the merits of higher-priced rivals with its high-end specs and affordable $350 cost. Sprint and AT&T also sell the Nexus 5 on contract, but here in the US, the Nexus 5's sub-$400 sticker price is a steal for a handset that has a more up-to-date processor and OS than the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Android front-runners, the latter of which has a full retail charge that costs hundreds of dollars more. Google's Nexus line has been a strong alternative for a few years now, but is picking up more momentum with this model, which delivers the LTE that Americans crave alongside robust features and that lower price. While it's too early to collect sales data quite yet, the Nexus 5 is in a strong position going into the holiday surge. Beyond the Nexus 5, second-tier carriers like MetroPCS (now owned by T-Mobile), Virgin and Boost Mobile, and Cricket carry a wider range of handsets, including pricey premium options like the iPhone 5S and Samsung Galaxy S4. Customers typically pay a lower monthly data rate, but a higher up-front cost for the phone, and can leave at any time without getting smacked by an early termination penalty. On the Windows Phone side of the house, Nokia has been chipping away at smartphone costs, driving down the full retail price of midrange models such as the $350 Lumia 1320 phablet. While that handset isn't expected to come to the US yet, it still could find a home with these prepaid carriers. There's also the Lumia 520, which costs $100 with a prepaid AT&T GoPhone plan, and the $120 T-Mobile variant, the Lumia 521. While both are low-end models that lack LTE, they do contain some software extras to help round out the experience. Fiercer competition T-Mobile deserves most of the credit for making the off-contract business model more appealing, after killing off contracts last March. So far, T-Mobile's tactics have been incredibly successful; the carrier gained 1 million customers in the third quarter, the most it's ushered in after beginning the contracts-are-evil campaign. If T-Mobile can keep interest piqued, it can pull even more subscribers away from Verizon and AT&T, its biggest rivals. Edicts like free international texts and data for travelers is almost guaranteed to make that happen. Although T-Mobile alone commands any changes in the tide so far, smaller prepaid carriers also have a chance to benefit as former contract subscribers become interested in other no-contract options. Midrange good enough? In mature markets like the US, contracts level the playing field of cost, making high-end smartphones seem more affordable and attainable. That often makes the choice to buy a premium handset simpler, since the off-contract difference is closer to $50 or $100, rather than a $200 or even $300 spread. <img src="http://asset2.cbsistatic.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim2/2013/09/18/01iPhone5s_35781409_septimius_610x436.jpg" width="600"/> (Credit: Sarah Tew/CNET) As in countries dominated by unlocked, off-contract phones, even a small step toward no-contract payments could see customers happy with midrange or upper-middle phones like the Nexus 5, iPhone 5C, and HTC One Mini (if the latter weren't a carrier exclusive here) -- models that come with features that are capable, but not cutting edge. Contract carriers retain the upper hand Despite T-Mobile's bold appeal, there are logical reasons to stay put with contract carriers. For instance, it takes no effort to stick around, but it does to calculate expenditures and cost savings with a new carrier home -- especially if you're thinking of moving the entire family over. Then there's the argument that the contract does little harm if you're the type of person who will probably stick with the same provider for far longer than the two-year minimum. There's also the handy subsidy, which gets you the phone at close to its manufacturing cost. For instance, IHS iSuppli's iPhone 5S teardown estimates the bill of materials at about $200, the same price you can buy the phone on contract. The counter-argument here, is that over the life span of two years, you'll likely spend more paying for pricier data with a contract carrier than you might with a no-contract competitor. What say you? T-Mobile's aspirations and agitations are clearly changing the way some US phone owners think about how they buy their phones, a position that's backed by a growing roster of robust phones that pack in a lot of robust features for a significantly lower cost. According to a statement from SCORE International Off-Road Racing, the sanctioning body behind the Baja 1000, Caselli's KTM Racing team had been leading the 833.1-mile off-road race when "he apparently lost control of his KTM motorcycle in a sandy, high-speed section at approximate race-mile 792. The accident occurred at 4:30 p.m. PST. Caselli reportedly died during transport to a hospital in nearby Ensenada. Caselli was a Moto X Endurocross competitor at X Games beginning in 2011, and was one of the most highly decorated athletes in off-road racing. He was named AMA Sportsman of the Year in 2007, and was in Baja fresh off of winning his third consecutive AMA National Hare & Hound Championship title. "Our desert racing family has lost a very special person in Kurt," said SCORE president Roger Norman, in the statement. "Kurt was a superb racer and this is a tragedy that affects us all. We extend our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers to the Caselli family. Their loss is immeasurable and we grieve with them." Early reports that the crash was related to an on-course booby trap have been discredited by eyewitnesses. "My teammate Rickey Brabec was the first person to Kurt … in a very secluded area with no spectators," Kawasaki racer Taylor Robert posted on his Facebook page on Saturday afternoon. "Ivan Ramirez showed up shortly after Ricky. They decided Ricky would go get help while Ivan stayed with Kurt. "Even though the news didn't come out until the night time the accident happened while there was still daylight, and didn't have anything to do with racing at night. This was merely a racing accident." Caselli had been competing on the 2x KTM bike, with an FMF Racing/Bonanca Plumbing KTM team that included X Games Moto X Endurocross gold medalist Mike Brown and Ivan Ramirez and Kendall Norman. The KTM Racing team posted the following statement on Friday night: "[We are] hugely shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Kurt Caselli. … A huge loss to his family, team and to our sport. Kurt was a wonderful competitor and an all round top guy." Tributes have been flooding out over social media overnight, including this one from the World Off-Road Championship Series Facebook page: "It is with a heavy heart and fond memories of one of the greatest racers to ever kick a leg over a motorcycle that we morn the loss of a great one. Kurt Caselli raced, lived and breathed off-road and was a role model to many. My tears and prayers are for his family and to all those that will feel the deep loss from our small community." The order, valued at about $20 billion at list price, may be signed as early as tomorrow on the first day of the Dubai Air Show, said the people, who asked not to be named because details are private. Emirates President Tim Clark has said previously that he would like to buy about 30 additional A380s. A transaction of that size would be a record for the A380, which was at risk of ending 2013 without a deal. Instead, Airbus can now make the year the most successful for its superjumbo should leasing company Doric firm up its plan to buy 20 units, which it announced in June. Emirates is already the biggest customer for the Airbus flagship with orders for 90 jets and had taken delivery of 38 by the end of October. 'There are obviously very exciting Airbus deals underway,' U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron told reporters in Dubai today. 'Remember that every second a plane takes off somewhere in the world that's got wings made in Britain, landing gear made in Britain, many of them of course having Rolls Royce engines -- this is a real area of expertise, so good news on Airbus.' Beating Berlin The boost comes after Airbus Chief Financial Officer Harald Wilhelm said this week the Toulouse, France-based company may need to examine whether to reduce A380 output, with unsold production slots as early as 2015. With the additional purchase, the Middle Eastern carrier would have signed for more than 50 percent of all A380s sold. Customers typically get discounts to list prices. The planemaker was bracing for a third straight year in which it failed to meet order targets after Deutsche Lufthansa AG (LHA) canceled a commitment to take three aircraft in September. Airbus had a backlog of 144 planes at the end of last month. Airbus is reversing a string of A380 setbacks after Air France-KLM (AF) Group, Europe's largest carrier, followed Lufthansa's cancellations by saying it may drop two superjumbos for smaller planes.
