Within five minutes of writing my love myself post yesterday, I caught a glimpse of myself in our hallway mirror. I actually said to myself, spoken out loud (husband out of town again this weekend), "Watch out, wide load coming through!". This negative self-talk is one of the hardest things for me to stop doing. I do it all day long and constantly catch myself either thinking or saying really cruel comments about my appearance. It's especially difficult now because I really don't like the way I look. I'm actually horrified by the distortion of my body and face. If anyone else talked to me like I talk to me, they wouldn't be someone I'd associate with at all. Kind of hard to do that when the person that continually puts me down is me. I'll continue to work on this, and try to say positive things in my self talk, but it's really hard! My husband is in Denver this weekend with his dad. It's a good thing he flew down there Saturday morning. The hospital discharged him from the hospital on Friday, and took him by ambulance back to his little apartment. The poor guy can barely walk, couldn't even get out of bed. Since he refused rehab they said they had no choice but to send him home. When my husband got there yesterday morning his dad said he really didn't feel well and thought he needed to go to the emergency room. Another ambulance ride back to the hospital. So Father's Day will be spent getting him moved into a rehab center to try to help him get strong enough to live on his own, although highly unlikely he'll ever move back home. Smoking = emphysema. Bad stuff.  My plans for the day: First, a 9:45am spin class. Even though my eating is still not where it should be, I have managed the gym for three days in a row. It's extremely hard to exercise at my current weight (213) and going to the gym is like going to a place of torture. There's really no other way to say this:  I hate it! There's a reason you don't see a lot of really obese people at the gym. I totally understand Who would want to go to a place where everything you do hurts? You'd have to be crazy. Or have to desperately want to lose weight. There was a study published a few months ago stating exercise really only attributes to about 3% of our overall weight loss. I've always know this is true. I didn't know the exact percentage but you know when you burn 300 to 500 calories at the gym that really doesn't amount to much in food. Building muscle is good, but it still doesn't make that much difference in weight loss. Eating less is what's really important. What exercise does for me is work my mind. I get in the right mindset to lose weight. So my number one priority now is get to the gym, no matter what. No excuses. The rest of the day is sister day. Our Sunday routine is usually a movie and a late lunch or early dinner. We're going to attempt to see The Most Exotic Marigold Hotel again. The last time we tried to see this movie, it was sold out. It was at a very small, privately owned theater, that I thought would be fun to go to, but their movies sell out quickly. Plus parking was a nightmare. Today we'll go to the big chain theater where I can buy the tickets through Fandango. This time, no movie popcorn for me and dinner will be grilled fish (not steak like last time). It's all about the choices I make. Happy Sunday!

Smith denied the reports, but the impression remains that AUSTRALIA is siding with the US against CHINA. AUSTRALIA does not want to make a choice between the US and CHINA. Both its future prosperity and its future security depend on maintaining close relationships with each country. If AUSTRALIA turns its back on the US, it would lose a longstanding and very valued ally, whose support and friendship should remain central to AUSTRALIA'S security for decades to come.</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="color: red; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 12pt;">CHOICES: ECONOMY VERSUS POLITICS </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 12pt;"> On the other hand, if it turns its back on CHINA, AUSTRALIA would lose an equally valued economic partner which will be critical to AUSTRALIA'S growth prospects in the decades to come, and forgo the benefits of deeper engagement with a country that is destined to take a leading role in ASIA and beyond in many fields. AUSTRALIA'S future therefore depends on it being able to maintain and develop both relationships as fully as possible. But despite its wishes, AUSTRALIA may be forced to make a choice between the US and CHINA, if strategic rivalry between the two countries continues to grow as it has over the past few years. The more intense that rivalry becomes, the greater the risk that either the US or CHINA will press AUSTRALIA to loosen its links with the other. And in addition, escalating rivalry between the region's two strongest powers increases the risk of confrontation and war between them, which would be devastating not just for AUSTRALIA but for the whole region. It is therefore strongly in AUSTRALIA'S interest to encourage both Washington and Beijing to work with one another to avoid escalating the strategic rivalry between them. This can only be done if both sides are willing to make concessions to accommodate one another. </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="color: red; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 12pt;">USA' S STRATEGIC ASIAN ADVANCES</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 12pt;"> On the one hand, CHINA must accept that the US will continue to play a key leadership role in ASIA as one of the region's great powers. The more clearly CHINA can affirm that it welcomes the US' continued strategic and political engagement in ASIA, the easier it will be to avoid escalating rivalry. On the other hand, the US must acknowledge that as CHINA'S power grows, it too must be accorded the status of a great power in ASIA, with a larger role in regional leadership. That means the US must step back from the role of primacy that it has exercised in ASIA for the past four decades, and deal with CHINA as an equal. Understandably, the US is finding this hard to accept. Some important figures, such as former national security adviser Henry Kissinger and even Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, have urged the US to redefine its role in ASIA to accommodate CHINA'S rise. But President Barack Obama has made it clear that he intends to resist any compromises with CHINA, and plans instead to reassert US primacy in ASIA with all the instruments of US power, including its military power. Moreover, Obama has made it clear that he expects US allies like AUSTRALIA to support the US as it tries to preserve its primacy in ASIA. This poses a great dilemma for AUSTRALIAN leaders, as could be seen when Stephen Smith visited CHINA last week. AUSTRALIAN leaders know that Obama's policies, including his military "pivot" to ASIA, run a grave risk of escalating strategic tensions with CHINA, and are therefore contrary to AUSTRALIA'S interests. But they lack the political courage to say no to Washington, or to explain to the AUSTRALIAN public how CHINA'S rise will require major changes in ASIA'S order, including in the US' role. So instead they try to pretend that increasing military cooperation with the US, such as the new deployment of US Marines to Darwin for training, has nothing to do with the US anxieties about CHINA. Like everyone else in ASIA, AUSTRALIANS want the US to stay as a key strategic power in ASIA, because it will help keep the peace between ASIA'S other great powers and help ensure that no one, including CHINA, tries to become a regional hegemony. However, AUSTRALIANS do not want the US and CHINA to become strategic adversaries, let alone enemies. They want the US to stay in ASIA on a basis which is acceptable to CHINA, just as they want CHINA to accept a continuing US role. That means they want Washington and Beijing to reach a deal on their future roles and relationship. We can only hope that leaders on both sides realize that they have no choice but to do such a deal, because it will be a disaster for everyone if they do not. </div>

While Pentagon sources Friday disclosed the approach of a “small contingent” of Russian warships to Tartus, debkafile’s military and intelligence sources have discovered that heading for the Russian base at this Syrian port is a Russian fleet that includes Ropucha-toad or Project 775 class landing-craft carrying Russian marines. Each craft can carry 250 marine personnel and 500-ton armored vehicles. And flying overhead are Russian air transports that are touching down at Syrian air bases bearing, according to our sources, a variety of sophisticated munitions for the Syrian army: advanced Russian Pantsyr-S1 anti-air missiles capable of hitting fighter-bombers flying at an altitude of 12 kilometers and cruise missiles; self-propelled medium range anti-air Buk-M2 missiles (NATO codenamed SA-11). They are capable of downing aircraft flying at an altitude of 14 kilometers and Mach 32 speed; and shore-based Bastion anti-ship missiles which can reach vessels sailing 300 kilometers out to sea.</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal;">Russia is, in a word, supplying Bashar Assad, his regime and his army, with the very weapons they may need for warding off Western and Arab air efforts to impose a no-fly zone over Syria, while at the same time enabling him to repel seaborne assaults by his foes from the Mediterranean. Since Syrian units have not been trained in the use of these advanced weapons, they are mostly likely coming with Russian technical teams to operate them - although they would be presented as “instructors.” The Russians are not trying to conceal their military intervention in Syria in support of the Assad regime. Isaykin, director of Rosoboronexport (the Russian state arms export authority) said quite openly: I would like to say these mechanisms are really good means of defense, a reliable defense against attacks from air or sea. I picked up a book the other day. It was used, in a big pile of used books we had at work, and it was only $.50. It's a self-help book, and a review on the back cover says "An excellent book for restructuring one's life and finding self-esteem and self-love." I hesitate to give the title yet until I've read some more. The author is listed as a "metaphysical" lecturer. I'm not sure how I feel about that so I want to read more to make sure it's not some nut-case book that I'm recommending. This book isn't about weight loss, but the few pages I've read so far have really helped me get my head in the right place for exercise and dieting. Since I've been on a self-hate mission, using food as my method of self-destruction, I know I have issues in the self-esteem, self-love arena. It's no secret that I've really been struggling with my weight. I've gained back a lot of the weight I lost. My weight this morning is 213.6. I was actually attempting to be careful in what I ate last week, and went to the gym three times, but I still gained three pounds in a week. Obviously, I have a problem. In this book, there are exercises for the mind, as seems to be the rule of most books on self-esteem (this isn't my first). The book stresses the use of positive self affirmations, which have never come easy for me. Loving myself versus my natural state of hating myself is not something I'm good at doing. This is the exercise I'm on now. Exercise:  I Love Myself Take a pad of paper and at the top, write, "I LOVE MYSELF; THEREFORE..." Finish the sentence in as many ways as you can. Read it over daily, and add to it as you think of new things. There's more to this exercise, the "Claim the New" where you visualize or imagine what you are working toward. Fill in all the details. Feel, see, taste, touch, hear. Notice other people's reactions to your new state.  Sounds like a weight loss book. My list so far: I love myself; therefore... I will eat healthy foods in moderate portions. I will cook for myself. I am worth the time and effort.  I will eat very little processed foods. I deserve better. I will exercise daily to keep my body and mind healthy. I will not talk mean to myself when I look in the mirror.  I will not talk mean to myself when I step on the scale. I will not talk mean to myself when I get dressed in the morning.  I will not talk mean to myself. Period.  I will not worry about what people think about my weight gain. It doesn't matter what they think. This is my problem, not theirs. I will be kind to myself even though I've gain a lot of weight.  I will understand there are reasons I gained the weight and not blame myself or call myself stupid and ugly because of it. I will accept responsibility for what I have done to myself, but not hate myself because of it.  I will not condemn myself repeatedly during my day for gaining weight.  I will love myself.  I will be gentle with myself.  I will be understanding when I go off my plan, and not criticize myself repeatedly with words of hate and shame. I will be encouraging to myself. I will drink lots of water and not use the excuse at work that I don't have time to go to the bathroom. I will resume my healthy habits that I've neglected, such as taking my daily vitamins and supplements. I will discontinue getting a small buttered popcorn at the movies every weekend with my sister. I don't even like it that much and it's very unhealthy.  I will track my food. Bite it, write it. Regardless of which weight loss plan I choose, this is critical in weight loss. Again, I'm worth the time and effort. I will buy some clothes that fit so I'm comfortable and look presentable. It's just a size, it doesn't make me a bad person to wear a larger size. I will approve of myself instead of continually disapproving of my every action. This is my list off the top of my head. I'm sure there will be many more things that I will add to it. Sixteen years ago, during one of my many weight loss attempts, I lost 108 pounds (I was 123 pounds, 5' 6" and actually, a little too thin). My husband told me something I've thought about a lot lately. He said "when  you're thin, you're a different person. You're happy and positive about life. You want to do things. When you gain weight, you're not happy and your entire personality changes." He wasn't necessarily being critical, and since I was at a low weight I took it as a compliment. He spoke the truth. I am a different person on the outside when I gain a lot of weight, and as unfortunate as it may be, that changes the person on the inside too.  If I love myself, I will do this.

She can't any more because the government won't let her take a camera to school. This website, gone viral, is creating a firestorm as kids from around the world are sending in photos of their own lunches.  In two weeks her district was letting kids have unlimited salads, fruit, and bread. She's a neat kid because instead of basking in glory, she decided to ask followers to donate to Mary's Meals that helps kids get lunches in africa. I find this to be a restriction of freedom of speech but think many us schools will do the same. When people want to hide from the truth - they ARE hiding something. It is all about relationships. If you pick one Computer science person to follow it should be Alfred Thompson. He's rock solid in understanding programming and computers but makes it understandable to the Average Joe or Average Sue (like me.) In fact, he was one of the persons in the edublogosphere (besides Stephen Downes) to be kind to me and treat me with respect. Position: Technical Program Manager (Mechanical Design) Location: Milpitas, CA Duration: Full time Job Description: The successful candidate will lead the SensArray product development (PLC) team as well as directly manage a small team of talented mechanical engineers. The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership, strong people/project management, as well as being able to contribute at the design level.  He/She must be able to work in a time-critical environment to ensure commitments are met. He/She must effectively grow and develop the team members. He/She must have the ability to work across groups including marketing, applications and manufacturing on all aspects of the development project. The job requires an in-depth knowledge of product development, metrology technology, thermodynamics, mechanics, and semiconductor component packaging. Responsibilities include: 1) 3+ years of experience driving a multifunction product development (PLC) team. 2) 5+ years of experience directly managing a team of engineers in developing hardware. 3) Track record of managing hardware projects for semiconductor industry that met performance requirements, release schedules and program cost. 4) Strong experience with product development best practices - requirements definition, design, development, test, and release. 5) Strong modeling experience - Thermal, FEA, CFD. 6) Ability to effectively work with his/her group spanning across worldwide development centers. 7) Track record of attracting, developing and retaining talent. 8) Create and execute to aggressive project plans. 9) Manage project budgets. 10) Champion and drive new technologies, techniques, or methods. 11) Ability to translate strategic plans into executable roadmaps. 12) Very well organized; a team player. 13) Excellent verbal and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications: 5+ year’s management experience. 3+ year’s product life cycle management experience. Position: Systems Software Engineer Location: Milpitas, CA Duration: Full Time Description: Responsibilities  The Wafer Inspection Division (WIN) of KLA-Tencor designs and manufactures systems that are used for capturing yield-impacting defects at the front-end-of-line (FEOL) and the back-end-of-line (BEOL). A successful candidate will be joining a world leader in wafer inspection products and technologies designing and manufacturing the next generation of products. The Wafer Inspection Division (WIN) is seeking a Systems Software Engineer in our Milpitas, California campus. You will be a key member of our highly integrated multi-disciplinary team comprised of software, optical, mechanical, robotics, electronics, control systems and image processing engineers.  You will be responsible for the creation of machine control, image computer and data storage software for next generation Semiconductor Wafer Inspection machines.  You will also be responsible for integrating multiple hardware and software sub-systems to solve some the most advanced technical challenges facing the semiconductor chip industry. The software is primarily written in Java with various components developed in C or C++ in a multi-threaded and distributed environment. The application will be distributed on multiple networked servers running various operating systems. Qualifications: 1) Proficient in developing system software in Linux platform. 2) Must have relevant experience in developing and debugging high-level machine control or distributed HPC software applications. 3) Experience with Object-Oriented software analysis and design using UML (Unified Modeling Language) modeling, Java and/or C++ programming. 4) Requires knowledge of multi-threaded/parallel processing applications. 5) Good software documentation skills are required. 6) Semiconductor equipment industry experience and/or Image/data processing experience a plus. 7) Knowledge of large scale storage technologies a plus.
