OK, this caused me a brief episode of cognitive dissonance.<br /><br /><br /><br /> <b> NRA joins spy lawsuit, says NSA creating gun registry</b><br /><br /><br /><a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/09/04/nra-joins-aclu-suit-against-nsa-surveillance/2768575/">Michael Winter, USA TODAY 9:44 p.m. EDT September 4, 2013</a><br /><br /><blockquote>Group joins lawsuit seeking end to spy agency's collection of Americans' phone records.<br /><br />The National Rifle Association has joined a lawsuit against the federal government's sweeping surveillance program, claiming the collection of phone records and other data violates First Amendment rights and amounts to an illegal gun registry.<br /><br /><i>In supporting the American Civil Liberties Union's lawsuit</i>, the NRA on Wednesday filed a supporting brief arguing the National Security Agency's datamining "could allow identification of NRA members, supporters, potential members, and other persons with whom the NRA communicates, potentially chilling their willingness to communicate with the NRA."<br /><br />The NSA's phone database would let the government track whether gun owners called the NRA, gun stores, shooting ranges or others.<br /><br />The brief also says the database "could allow the government to circumvent legal protections for Americans' privacy, such as laws that guard against the registration of guns or gun owners," thereby creating an illegal "national gun registry."<br /><br /><i>The ACLU welcomed the gun group's support</i>.</blockquote><br />Because the ACLU has alway been seen as a Liberal based entity and the NRA a deeply Conservative one, it just caused me a minute of confusion to see them partnering on anything in the first place although now that I have thought about it for a bit it does make sense, kind of.<br /><br />They say that politics makes strange bedfellows and this would certainly qualify in my book but in our struggle to rein in an out of control surveillance state I applaud them both for taking the fight right to the governments doorstep.

They were protesting Walmart management for retaliating against workers and for paying them poverty wages.<br /><br />Police have<a href="http://makingchangeatwalmart.org/" rel="nofollow"> began to arrest about 20 Walmart strikers </a>and supporters after 700 people rallied outside of the company's Los Angeles headquarters, demanding Walmart pay workers enough to support their families.<br /><blockquote class="tr_bq"></blockquote>In front of a Walmart store near Seattle, at least a half-dozen people were arrested by police in SWAT gear. Our brother and sister <a href="http://qik.com/video/59690745" rel="nofollow">Teamsters came to show their support</a>.<br /><br />In New York City, three protesters were arrested for trying to meet with a Walmart board member.<br /><br />Protests and acts of civil disobedience by Walmart workers are spreading across the country into this evening. Strikers and supporters are demanding that Walmart pay its workers at least $25,000 a year and reinstate 20 workers who were fired for standing up for their rights.<br /><br />Activists arrested last month while protesting Walmart's retaliation against workers set a Labor Day deadline for the company to meet the demands. Using <a href="http://www.roughstock.com/blog/country-album-chart-news-the-week-of-september-4-2013-alabama-friends-luke-bryan-crash-my-party-lead-the-way">Roughstock's country chart numbers</a> we can see that #26 sold 13K and #35 sold 11K so I am sure Mandisa sold at least around 12K in her first week. Her debut "True Beauty" sold 17K its first week and went on to sell over 200K, so "Overcomer" should continue to place well on the Christian chart for weeks to come. Carrie Underwood's "Blown Away" had the furthest drop of the week (from #81 to #95), but for an album that has been out since May 2012, what can you expect? It has been one of the top 100 selling albums in the country for almost 16 months now! Lee DeWyze's "Frames" appears to have dropped out of the Top 200 after its first week, so I gave Mandisa  the little green diamond on the chart. Mandisa should stay in the Top 200 for a few weeks so she should at least get a line on my chart!<br /><br />

But now the Obama administration is backing away from tobacco tariffs that would keep cigarette costs high and reduce the health risks of smoking. Public health officials are rightfully angry.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><a href="http://www.cpath.org/id51.html" rel="nofollow"><span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The Center for Policy Analysis on Trade and Health noted</span></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> that instead of making it easier for corporations to sell tobacco, the U.S. should be making it harder:</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><blockquote class="tr_bq"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">U.S. laws prohibit the U.S. from using trade agreements to promote the sale or export of tobacco products. But the U.S proposes to eliminate tariffs on tobacco for TPP countries, which would mean cheaper prices for cigarettes, and increased consumption and use, especially among younger people.</span></blockquote></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Meanwhile, the Obama administration and some members of Congress want to plow ahead and vote on the TPP without debating its merits. No doubt multinational corporations are working hard to persuade them that the deal is good for America. It really isn’t.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Just look with </span><a href="http://www.politico.com/story/2013/09/china-drives-uptick-in-us-trade-deficit-96257.html" rel="nofollow"><span style="color: blue; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">what’s happening with trade between the U.S. and China</span></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">. New numbers show that America’s trade deficit with China reached a record $30.1</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> billion in July, up 13.3 percent.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>Behind that number are lost jobs – good manufacturing jobs. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>More jobs are likely to be lost under the TPP. That’s why the deal can’t just be pushed through Congress. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Top TPP negotiators from the U.S. and 11 other involved nations are expected to meet Sept. 18-21 in Washington to continue talks. American trade negotiators must oppose unfair trade rules that threaten jobs and health. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The U.S. government needs to remember that most citizens support trade, but they don't support trading well-paying American jobs and safe American products for lost jobs, lower wages and products that make our families sick.</span></div>

It may even lead to the US no longer being viewed as a good place to issue sovereign debt. At the very least, it renders non-viable all debt restructurings under the standard debt contracts. In the process, a basic principle of modern capitalism – that when debtors cannot pay back creditors, a fresh start is needed – has been overturned.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">The trouble began a dozen years ago, when ARGENTINA had no choice but to devalue its currency and default on its debt. Under the existing regime, the country had been on a rapid downward spiral of the kind that has now become familiar in GREECE and elsewhere in EUROPE. In a highly innovative move, ARGENTINA exchanged old debt for new debt – at about 30 cents on the dollar or a little more – plus a GDP-indexed bond. The more ARGENTINA grew, the more it paid to its former creditors.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">ARGENTINA’S interests and those of its creditors were thus aligned: both wanted growth.
