<p><img alt="rasta-dog" class="aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-33756" height="220" src="http://animalfair.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/rasta-dog-219x220.jpg" width="219"></p>  <p>A Colorado measure to impose sales and excise taxes of 25 percent on newly legalized recreational marijuana and earmark the first $  40 million in revenue for public schools was approved by voters on Tuesday, Governor John Hickenlooper said.</p>  <p>The move showed a willingness on the part of Colorado voters to tax marijuana for the public benefit……</p>  <p><img alt="" class="aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-25716" height="220" src="http://animalfair.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/112009dog1_t300-146x220.jpg" title="Drug Sniffing Dog" width="146"></p>  <p>Canines are known for helping fight the war on drugs in police searches and investigations, but as early as 1997 our furry friends have been hitting the hallways in schools across the country to help prevent illegal drug possession and abuse by teenagers. Illegal drug smuggling and supply in the U.S. has skyrocketed and our schools are a fresh target point for dealers to infiltrate. Drug sniffing dogs serve as a deterrent to students considering bringing drugs on to school premises.</p>  <p>Drug dealers and smugglers have become very inventive when finding ways to hide drugs; they seal drugs inside furniture, vacuum-pack them in cans, stuff them into fruit, pepper, coffee and even submerge them in automobile gas tanks. K9 units are moving to the head of the class for helping police officers sniff out illegal drugs in high school lockers, parking lots and other common areas.</p>  <p>Drug sniffing dogs are every (police) man's best friend and are our biggest allies in the escalating fight against illegal drugs and protecting our children. The percentage of the dog's brain devoted to analyzing smells is actually 40 times larger than that of a human! It's been estimated that dogs can identify smells somewhere between 1,000 to 10,000 times better than humans can.</p>  <p>Drug dogs are trained to find illegal drugs, whether it's large or small amounts. Dogs really have no idea they are providing a valuable service by searching out drugs; instead dogs think they're looking for their favorite toy.</p>  <p>It's common knowledge in the animal world that dogs love to play tug-of-war with a towel. A handler plays with the dog and a scent-free towel as a fun toy; next a bag of marijuana (or narcotics) is rolled up inside the towel. After playing for a while, the dog connects the smell of marijuana with the smell of his favorite new toy. The handler then hides the towel, with the drugs, in various places and the dog sniffs it out alerting the handler.</p>  <p><strong>Sniffing Our Way to Drug Free Schools!</strong></p>  <p>Every parent wants their child to go to school to learn, and not worry about a child being confronted with drugs and pushers. Securing your child's safety from drugs requires a drug free school. First, school officials must decide whether to use drug dogs at all, next they decide whether to use police dogs or hire a private company.</p>  <p>Random searches around school lockers and cars in parking lots by drug sniffing dogs can be a very effective deterrent, sending a strong message that drugs won't be tolerated at school. If requested, searches in classrooms and other areas can be checked. A favorite breed that most private companies chose is the Golden Retriever; they don't appear so intimidating and threatening to kids.</p>  <p>Education is the key in the debate on the drugs and parents need to educate teenagers on the effects of drugs in an open and honest way. But if the cat's got your tongue when it's time for the talk, you can breathe easy with a little help from Hollywood.</p>  <p>Sam Branson, founder of Sundog Pictures and son of furtastic entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson, released his first documentary today, "Breaking the Taboo." The film takes a look at how the war on drugs around the world can be fixed and interviews several top dog dignitaries, including four former U.S. Presidents. Sam, the documentary's executive producer, barked, "Having spent two years working on 'Breaking the Taboo', I am convinced, now more than ever, that this is a debate that has to happen. Not just on a local level, in our own communities, but on the global stage." <div id="yom-ad-LREC" class="yom-ad yom-ad-LREC">  <center>  <div id="yom-ad-LREC-iframe" class="yom-ad"></div>  </center>  </div>  <p><br></p>  <p>By David Morgan</p>  <div class="body-slot-mod">  <div class="yom-remote">  <div class="yom-loading" id="mediacontentrelatedstory_container"></div>  </div>  </div>  <p>WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Obama administration will release healthcare enrollment numbers for Obamacare’s rocky October rollout this week that could be more important for what they fail to say, than for what they do.</p>  <p>President Barack Obama’s Democratic administration, which is under intense pressure from Republicans to release the data, has signaled that the total will be low after weeks of technical problems with the federal website, HealthCare.gov.</p>  <p>But that will only underscore the huge number of people believed to be waiting for a chance to obtain benefits, according to policy experts and congressional aides.</p>  <p>The 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, or ACA, aims to provide health benefits to millions of uninsured Americans. It mandates that most Americans at least be enrolled for health insurance by March 31 or pay a fine.</p>  <p>Analysts say the October number should offer an early indication of whether Obama’s landmark health initiative is proving more popular with poor people who qualify for Medicaid or with working-class families eligible for subsidized private insurance through new online marketplaces that have been set up in all 50 states.</p>  <p>U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told the Senate Finance Committee last week that the early tally would be “very low,” and that the data would break out the numbers for states and show how many enrolled in private insurance plans versus expanded Medicaid programs.</p>  <p>But administration officials have not said whether the data will provide clues to other important questions, including whether young healthy adults, needed by insurers to offset older people with higher health costs, are eager to obtain coverage.</p>  <p>A small sign-up number, particularly one dominated by Medicaid enrollment, would be seized upon by Republican critics as evidence that the law is a failure that must be delayed or overhauled before it leads to wider problems within the $ 2.9 trillion U.S. healthcare system.</p>  <p>The administration is racing to make the federal enrollment website HealthCare.gov work smoothly by the end of November.</p>  <p>“There’s going to be a huge crunch. It’s a big choke point. The risk is people having lapses in coverage because the system can’t handle the volume, which would be a huge political problem for the administration,” said James Capretta of the conservative Ethics & Public Policy Center.</p>  <p>Prior to the launch troubles, as many as 7 million Americans were expected to sign up for private health insurance offered through the online marketplaces for 2014. An additional 9 million were expected to enroll in an expanded Medicaid program for the poor by March 31, according to the Congressional Budget Office.</p>  <p>Before the October 1 website launch became a debacle, internal administration memos anticipated 494,620 enrollees in October and 706,000 in November nationwide, according to congressional investigators. Administration officials declined to confirm the numbers, saying projections are subject to rapid change.</p>  <p>A failure to fix the website that leaves large numbers of people uninsured could put tremendous pressure on the administration to delay implementation, including the individual mandate that requires most Americans to have insurance in 2014 or face a penalty.</p>  <p>Administration official have not said exactly when this week the data will be released.</p>  <p>Republican aides in the U.S. House of Representatives believe the Department of Health and Human Services and its Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will try to avoid scrutiny by not providing detailed data.</p>  <p>“They could give us very granular data showing enrollment by state, by plan level, how many enrollees had subsidies and at what level – all that stuff. But I think they’re going to give us something aggregated nationally,” said one aide.</p>  <p>So far, the administration has only said that 750,000 people have applied to determine their eligibility for Medicaid or for tax credits under the healthcare law.</p>  <p>A Reuters tally of 7 states that are running their own exchanges and providing detailed information on enrollment shows more than 35,000 Americans have picked a private insurance plan so far. <p><cite class="byline vcard"><span class="provider org">Reuters</span> – </cite></p>  <div class="yom-mod yom-art-content" id="mediaarticlebody">  <div class="bd">  <p class="first">DUBAI (Reuters) – A Twitter account Iran experts believe is run by the office of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei criticised France on Sunday after Paris expressed reservations about a proposed deal to end a decade-old dispute over Tehran’s nuclear programme.</p>  <p>A message posted in English on the account @khamenei_ir said: “French officials have been openly hostile towards the Iranian nation over the past few years; this is an imprudent and inept move.”</p>  <p>A second tweet said: “A wise man, particularly a wise politician, should never have the motivation to turn a neutral entity into an enemy.”</p>  <p>The authenticity of the messages, which appeared to refer to talks in Geneva that ended on Saturday night without clinching a deal to curb Tehran’s nuclear programme, could not immediately be confirmed.</p>  <p>But France has traditionally taken a tougher line on Iran than most other world powers and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has accused it of being more intransigent in talks than the United States.</p>  <p>Clear divisions emerged among the U.S. and European allies on the final day of the Geneva talks as France hinted that the proposal under discussion did not sufficiently neutralise the threat of an Iranian nuclear bomb.</p>  <p>Despite the failure of the discussions, Iran and six world powers said differences had narrowed – a softening that may worry Iranian hardliners – and they would resume negotiations in 10 days to try to end the decade-old standoff.</p>  <p>Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday denounced the outline of an accord leaked to the media, saying Tehran would be getting “the deal of the century” if world powers carried out proposals to grant Iran temporary respite from sanctions.</p>  <p>Israel, which is believed to have the Middle East’s only nuclear arsenal and regards Iran as a mortal threat, has repeatedly suggested it may take military action against Tehran if it does not mothball its entire nuclear programme.</p>  <p>Iran dismisses such demands, saying it has a sovereign right to a nuclear energy industry. The stars played overanxious primary school teacher Mr. Peterson and his very pregnant wife in sequel to <i>Nativity!</i> which continued the misadventures of the staff and pupils of St. Bernadette's School. </span><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br /><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">“Both David Tennant and Joanna Page are amongst the best actors in <st1:country-region w:st="on">Britain</st1:country-region>. I love working with great actors! They throw themselves into the story and work with genuine fearlessness and commitment,” said Debbie. “I feel so lucky to have worked with such great actors and improvisers in my films. I really feel like I work with the best actors in the country.”</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Filming took place on location in <st1:country-region w:st="on">Wales</st1:country-region> and Warwickshire in late 2011. With animals, children and Mr Poppy (Marc Wootton) things can often get out of control and have us all laughing our heads off on set. David and Joanna both had to keep straight faces whilst doing amazingly brave stunts for this movie," explains Debbie. "David fell in the river when white water rafting - by accident! He was thrown down a rapid river but agreed to let me keep it in the scene, as it was so funny!</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">"Joanna had to get up in a helicopter without any door on it and fly thousands of feet up in the air to try and rescue David, who was stranded on a mountain!
