Do not make the mistake of presuming that carbohydrates and fats are the enemy to your goals. Your body needs all three of the major nutrients and it is physically impossible to enjoy long-term success if you cut any of them out completely.<br /> <br /> So a high protein diet is perfectly safe, providing you take the precautions to ensure your fat and carbohydrate consumption is also up to par. This is one of the key rules to any successful healthy eating plan, along with regular exercise and a good amount of rest. []<br /> <br /> When trying to set out a specific diet, try using the following macronutrient split:<br /> <br /> * 1.2 grams of protein per pound of body weight (the weight you want to be, that is).<br /> <br /> * 0.5 grams of carbohydrates per pound of body weight.<br /> <br /> * 0.5g fats per lb of body weight.<br /> <br /> That would make sure you were getting enough protein to substitute your lower carbohydrate cont and ensure you didn't lose lean muscle along the way, while also making sure that you aren't cutting anything too low.<br /> <br /> You do not need to be a qualified personal trainer or nutritionist to learn how to lose weight safely. The trouble is there's so much confusion caused by conflicting opinions and theories that most people get lost. The program is wildly popular and often a highlight of the medical school experience. This year, over half of my class signed up as soon as the forms went online.<span id="more-148056"></span></p><p style="margin: 0px 0px 1em 166px; font-size: 1.4em; line-height: 1.5em; ">Getting through the red tape required to allow inexperienced first- and second-year medical students to observe these lifesaving operations always takes several months. I know, because I volunteered to help out with the setup process. Training sessions. Vaccination forms. Observation forms. Surgeon meetings. Sponsor signatures. Limited enrollment. Our class started the process in January and was not cleared until the end of April. Finally, the sign-up list was randomized and a pager was handed to the first lucky student. The waiting began.<br><br>A few weeks passed with little activity. One student was paged, but it turned out to be a false alarm. Frustrated classmates passed the beeper down the list, since you had to be constantly available and conflicts arise over time. We started questioning whether anyone would ever make it to an operating room. The sleep-deprived were nodding off in the back. The future oncologists were furiously taking notes in the front. A shrill beeping rang through the auditorium — an everyday event when your teachers are practicing doctors. But this time, it did not come from the professor behind the podium. It did not come from any of the course directors sitting off to the side. It came from a student in the middle of the lecture hall, who stood up in shock and quickly gathered his things.</p><p style="margin: 0px 0px 1em 166px; font-size: 1.4em; line-height: 1.5em; ">The entire class erupted in applause and started cheering his name. As he stumbled out the door, fiddling with the pager, excited chatter broke out.</p><p style="margin: 0px 0px 1em 166px; font-size: 1.4em; line-height: 1.5em; ">"Do you think he'll get to fly somewhere?"</p><p style="margin: 0px 0px 1em 166px; font-size: 1.4em; line-height: 1.5em; ">"I hope he gets to scrub in!"</p><p style="margin: 0px 0px 1em 166px; font-size: 1.4em; line-height: 1.5em; ">Watching all of this, our instructor searched the audience for an explanation. Amid the laughing and the clapping, a classmate shouted a description of the program. Our professor was surprised — he had thought the exiting student was about to become a father. Now aware of what had transpired, he solemnly told us that he often took care of transplant patients. And he reminded us of what we had forgotten: that someone had probably just died.</p><p style="margin: 0px 0px 1em 166px; font-size: 1.4em; line-height: 1.5em; ">The room fell quiet. We shifted uncomfortably in our seats. Dozens of Type A medical students, we were ashamed of what we had just done.</p><p style="margin: 0px 0px 1em 166px; font-size: 1.4em; line-height: 1.5em; ">Later that day, we found out he was right. An elderly woman had been left brain-dead by a seizure, and the student had gone with a team to retrieve her liver. She was legally dead, but because of a ventilator and other supports, her heart was still beating and the surgeons had a little more time. Still, when they opened her up, they found that her liver wasn't healthy enough to warrant transplantation. So they packed up and drove home.</p><p style="margin: 0px 0px 1em 166px; font-size: 1.4em; line-height: 1.5em; ">My classmates and I thought we were applauding the gift of an organ and the training of a friend. Do human resources trainees hear of "great" instances of sexual harassment? Without sick people, we cannot learn to diagnose and treat. Ray was pretty funny. Anyway, that’s one less show for white people to go to. Professor Zhang Biqing spent six years building what's referred to in the article as a "rooftop garden villa," with fake rocks and real vegetation above his penthouse apartment. After decades of refinishing furniture and selling it, they are like the experts on Antique Roadshow. I bring them things, they tell me the good/bad news and then I jump for joy or kick them out of the house, depending on their answer.<br /><div><br /></div><div>The verdict - it was determined I was looking at a piece made of at least two different types of wood. Damn you furniture!<br /><br />But after a cool down period I realized/remembered that this is <i>not</i> a fancy piece. This is backwoods furniture y'all. The people sitting in these pews were most likely in their farmer overalls rather than suits so it was never meant to be a fine antique.<br /><br />So I gave in and decided I couldn't fight an old church pew. (its probably sacrilegious or something) It will be whatever it is. Embrace the character. Embrace the character. Some of her red paint still shows thru (some wood 'released' the paint better than others) and I like that. Waynesboro's Brown Bag Express announces closing

Every morning for the past two years the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/BrownBagExpress?hc_location=stream">Brown Bag Express</a> restaurant in Waynesboro announced its daily specials with friendly messages on Facebook. However, this morning owner Faith Ayres posted a different message:<br /><blockquote>I'm sorry to say that we will be closing our business on Thursday August 15th. We will miss all of our customers. Thank you for your business for the last 2+ years!</blockquote>It was a surprise to those in the community who have become accustomed to running by 133 N. Wayne Avenue for delicious comfort foods on the go.<br /><br />Every morning, Monday through Friday, the day's specials were announced with familiar chirpy announcements:<br /><blockquote>Happy Wednesday! Today I'll have Mac & Cheese, Steamed Broccoli & Steamed Corn for hot sides. I have Chocolate Cake w/Peanut Butter Frosting, Strawberry Cake, German Chocolate Cake, Spice Cake, Chocolate Cake, Brownies, Chocolate Chip Cookies & Muffins for baked goods. See you later!</blockquote>Reporter Roger Gonzales with the <i><a href="http://www.dailyprogress.com/newsvirginian/quick-bite-for-those-on-the-run/article_d3b34b80-f7a8-11e2-ba72-0019bb30f31a.html#.UfZUXlxJTa8.facebook">News-Virginian</a></i> highlighted the restaurant two weeks ago, noting at that time that they were weathering the difficulties of lower traffic due to downtown construction and blocked streets.
